Don't want to sleep tonight? Consider replacing the word "orzov" with American government.
Cabal Paxiarch (23 days ago)
Interesting perspective. I always thought of the Orzhov more like bankers rather than mobsters but I can see where you're coming from.
白空 (27 days ago)
Are we getting more of these videos? Or is this a canceled series...? Wish they did Dimir next

Holy shit, i was just reading a book that says the exact same thing about society. Society bonds individuals by fear of the ambient, while individuals are THE object of fear of Society. SO, society bonds themselves to become fearless against individuals they don't recognize.

Getting back into MTG, haven't picked up a card since like 1998, with my Kids. And we are loving these videos, for helping with our color picks. Can't wait for more color combos!

Thank you so much

Love the work sofar @TheManaSource, keep it up! Once you start doing 3 colors, could you do Blue White Green and Red Black Green? I plan on making a few super friends team decks and it would be interesting to see the synergies and focuses of these colors. The idea of a break down of what 3 color decks are good at might help me out with this as ive only been able to brew up mid range decks with 3 colors (which doesnt cut it with the current meta at my LGS)

I have an amazing Black and White deck. I call it my Weeping Angel Deck. I steal life from my opponents. For every point of life I gain target opponent loses that much life. I have life link, extort, two sorin's vengeance, and two defiant bloodlords.
Madmind (4 months ago)
My favorite guild, once again thank you for unveiling the inner machination of the guilds color pie. However once again by mentioning all sorts of non-Orzhov W/B cards you keep pushing that all a color pair can be is it's Ravnica guild.

Volaan Gaming (5 months ago)
There's no dimir in this playlist
Jack Pabich (5 months ago)
So how does lifegain work with white? Like, what is the lore behind that? I can see how black is greedy enough to steal the life from others, but curious about white. Maybe just because they are known for life gain? Unrelated point, Gruul would beat Orzhov in the lore then, I'm assuming. Just because the Orzhov leaders seem to have more of the intimidating factor rather than weapon power. Keep up the great videos!
Roland Simmons (5 months ago)
Dimir please
Jiub Ninebark (5 months ago)
Orzhov is my niche but angus mackenzie is my champ. ENCHANTMENT!!! For days and thumbs up if you get the reference lol

Decideo Mirage (5 months ago)
In a search that has zero results, in a window that was never made, is the video that doesn't exist.

So the Orzhov is basically the Republican model. Rich evil at the top exploiting the fear and need to belong of the masses to maintain their hold on power. P

Orzhov == League of Villains
Felix Rivera (6 months ago)
I always noticed that my bw is very slow and has little punch in 1v1. Now in any multiplayer format that draws agro away from me it has always been rediculously strong, like I broke my friend group and had to shelve the deck for a while because blood artist is super rude when tokens are dying en mass
Reuben Oakley (6 months ago)
Personally, my Orzhov deck is one of my fastest.
Ian Astraquillo (6 months ago)
Really awesome videos Wedge! Please do the Boros Legion next! =)
Joshua Gutierrez (6 months ago)
So what would you call a deck that runs white black and blue? I think red blue black is called grixis.
hiddennijafist (6 months ago)
while I can why white would often be seen as the "pawn" in this pairing, it can also be the other way around; where one's cause is so noble or necessary that it must be achieved no matter what the cost. Sorin for example, he seems to truly believe in protecting his plane from whatever threats that may arise, and will use every move necessary - whether it be turning against his own kind or destroying his own creations to defend the many.
EloquentTroll (6 months ago)
Not Gruul, then why do I care?
SquirrelSword (6 months ago)
This may be your best and most accurate representation of the guilds so far.

I'm hoping once you finish the dual colors you move to the tri colors, love these though, very interesting

Magic's philosophy lore is so deep. The deeper the better ;)
Bins Wanger (6 months ago)
I don’t agree with this at all Wedge. You never were a lore guy and it shows. BW isn’t about fear, it about family. Think the Sapronos. You are in this family and we take care of you. All you want is provided for. You will be spoiled rotten at the cost of everyone else. Karlov and company have Mafia written all over them. They have legitimate front of a religious corporation but the dealings of cartel. They follow the word of law as white does, but not it’s spirit. Very black of them. The law is in fact there to be exploited as is everything for the good of the family. The rest of Ravnica can fuck off. I used to like this series and now I can only hope you get right next time.
Terrell Kitowski (6 months ago)
Is there a dimir philosophy video? 😬

Something interesting, IF you are willing to work a thousand or so years the Orzhov theoretically have a way to give you reliable immortality. No guarantee against being taken advantage of post servitude though.

What do I exactly have to do to enter the giveaway? I click it and that is it? Help, please. Thank you. I am sorry to bug.

Ah I remember my Orzhov deck, which was my very first MtG deck
Philigan87 (6 months ago)
I feel like this over simplified the relation between black and white by looking at it almost exclusively through the ravnica sets. Everything was correct in what you said, but B/W has more depth than that. There are other b/w characters and spells that don’t fit with the orzhov ideals you detailed. Planeswalkers Sorin and Kaya for instance are both bound by causes that aren’t rooted in self interest. Both of these planeswalkers are concerned with restoring natural order (as they see it) through whatever means necessary. White representing order and black representing that the character will pursue their goal no matter the cost or who gets in their way. In this way w/b is used to represent lawful neutral, not just lawful evil as your breakdown seems to suggest. On Theros, most b/w cards don’t stand for anything moral or amoral, rather they tend to represent the balance between life and death and the junction between the two. The other side of the coin to greedy despots using law and religion for their own needs is the representation of true religious zealotry in b/w. Faith in higher powers that aren’t good aligned can be seen between Zendikar and Innistrad. Worshipers and cultists of the Eldrazi (like Ayli) aren’t motivated by personal preservation or fear, but true religious devotion, beyond all reason or sanity. I think in order not to be reductive you need to look further than just ravnica, even though ravnica’s guilds are the most prolific in terms if color pairs.

Wedge can you do the guild that doesn't exsist
Ryan Adams (6 months ago)
Im starting to feel like deep down without knowing I am an Orzhov I can never have it come to myself to build a Gruul deck, but I love Izzet, golgari, dimir, rakdos, and Orzhov being my top 5

So basically, Orzhov is how America views Socialism?
Steven Delaney (6 months ago)
Great video Wedge! I’ve been waiting for Orzhov for a while now. It’s funny how spot on this is. I’m in the midst of building a tainted sigil/CoK, sanguine bond EDH and all the philosophy is there. You have to put yourself in a super vulnerable position just to kill your opponents whilst relying on your other cards to finish the job...hope they show up and don’t take the opportunity to let me flail in the wind! Good thing I’m actually doing it Esper. More of a unified (hive mind) front :D
shawn Hale (6 months ago)
I wanna see shards! (Even though all the guilds haven't been covered yet, do that please.) Tell me how Jund works! Not just the Alara lore, but look into the tier one deck and lore-ify it! I think it'd be fun to look at a top tier deck list, and imagine the cards as a whole in a lore sense. Even though, obviously, there would be a lot of weird creature types, from a lot of different sets, each tending to clash in a lore and logical sense, but I think that this would be a fun insight into what's going on in WOTC's mind, regarding their short-term (Alara block) and their long-term (modern) color lore, and how it has changed! Good stuff! Thanks for making interesting content!
Connor MacDonald (6 months ago)
I feel like these videos address the philosophy of the guild more than the colour combination. First, Black isn't only afraid that they won't get power from their sacrifices, but that the power they obtain won't be enough to maintain a locus of control over their life. Second, both white and black actually do agree on something; Tribalism, the concept of "us not them". Magneto is a good example of the latter (and of the "Orzhov" [WB] mentality as a whole), bringing mutants together with the promise of both protection and vengeance for the crimes committed against them. Despite brainwashing the mutants under his protection to believe all people act like the ones that wronged them, he genuinely believes his actions are for the good of his people and fights vigorously to protect them.

Where have you been, man? Great video as always!

Great to see you back, Wedge! Great video as always.
a few days late to the party but: ABOUT DAMN TIME
YourSoulisYummy (6 months ago)
White is actually a very selfish color, but it is selfish in a different way than black is. White is selfish in the plural; white will do anything for its people because white is tribal and ethnocentric. This is another trait that ties them together: they will both do anything for themselves, but to black the self is a single person while to white the self is a group.
