Excellent. Thanks a million

1:05 Why did you decrease the pixels for the image? is it better to work with low pixels for the pop art effect?
At 0:50, I explain that the photo's size and resolution are important factors in the final results when typing in the filter's setting amounts.

Your videos are awesome as always!! Thank you. Could you do one that is just a simple silk screen dotted image? Or even like an old computer from the 80s that does the dotted images?
To transform a color image into color dots, just go to Filter > Pixelate > Color Halftone. To transform a black & white image into a dot halftone, go to Filter > Filter Gallery > Sketch folder > Halftone Pattern > Pattern Type: Dot

Also ever since doing this my Photoshop has become slow. Why? Please answer my questions i need help.

It works fine. You're foreground and background colors are inverted.

Jake Stockton (2 years ago)
Your videos are the best on the web, but I still spent 3 hours on this today! Granted, I made one for my Indian girlfriend. Her darker skin tone makes it extremely difficult. Every time I would apply the smart sharpening tool, it gave this checkered pattern. I got it to work eventually. I didn't use that tool. Instead, I adjusted the halftone filter by increasing the dot size.

when i get to the colorizing of the background part *when making a new layer and feeling it with a colour* , every color i choose is transformed in a shade of grey. why is this happening and how can i solve this problem?
Stevie Sheps (3 years ago)
+Lia Del Rey Make sure that the mode isn't set to "Grayscale" by going to Image>>Mode and then selecting the colour profile you want

Kelley Bourguignon (3 years ago)
When I am selecting halftone pattern, my background is showing the dots as well. Why is my subject not the only part with dots?
Eric Garcia (1 year ago)
Im about to try a new layer and color it myself, should get rid of the dots
Evelyn Ho (1 year ago)
I think you need to make sure the foreground color is black, then do the filter halftone pattern.
Alecio De Paula (1 year ago)
it is interesting, on the image you provided the halftone pattern works only on the image, but every other image I tried to follow the tutorial the halftone pattern is applied all over image and background, and I followed the tutorial exactly the same way, again on the image you provided works, any other image it doesn't work. It must have some explanation. I was able to do the tutorial making a cutout of the subject, and it worked great.
Francisco Berni (2 years ago)
Same here, I think this is an out of memory (ram) issue, when I used to follow this tutorial in a PC I got the halftone pattern all over the image even over all the highlights but not in Mac
Storm Walsh (2 years ago)
+Kelley Bourguignon Either you're applying the halftone effect to the wrong layer, or you have the colours inverted, or you haven't deleted your background, or... many other reasons. Start again, and follow the isntructions carefully.
Arnold Tan (3 years ago)

ezthejedi (3 years ago)
+Blue Lightning TV Preciate it man, I will do, hope it works
+ezthejedi Press "x" on your keyboard.
ezthejedi (3 years ago)
+Blue Lightning TV Alright thank you, How do I un invert them??
It may be because your foreground and background colors are inverted.

Janelle Shott (3 years ago)
I am having an issue. Whenever I go to color the whole picture, It does not show up. It stays completely normal, without any color. Do you know how I can fix this issue? I have tried it multiple times, but it still does not work. It worked perfectly yesterday. Now, it does not work at all.
I'm sure it's a simple fix, especially since it worked yesterday. However, the problem could any one of dozens of reasons. Without inspecting your file, it's difficult to track down the cause.
Christian Fernandez (3 years ago)
yo no se hablar ingles y te entendí todo... muchas gracias.
I love each of your tutorial. Easy to understand. You used a simple word as English is not my first language. Keep it up! Thank you, From Malaysia.
abelsincain (3 years ago)
No matter what I do this tutorial doesn't work with a larger image and the one used here is minuscule.....
Nice Video man(:
Daniel Corner (3 years ago)
Great video. After I fill in my quick mask with the paint bucket tool, the line that I drew to make the selection is still clearly distinguisable. Any ideas? Thanks
The resolution of your image may be a lot larger than the one I used in this video. Whatever you used to make the line, try increasing its size. Also, make sure its opacity is 100%.
Arnold Ács (3 years ago)
I have a problem, why my whites are dotted too? :/
Tuấn Anh Nguyễn (3 years ago)
When I put the gallerr filter dot effect to the layer, both background and portrait are dotted. How to keep background as clear as it's in the video ? thanks a lot for good tut
Robert Cioch (3 years ago)
Hey. Could you please tell me why my picture background becomes dotty when I clink on filter in the filter gallery instead of the face I have selected ? Thank you.
Lester Thomas (3 years ago)
how do you do this for dark skintones (i.e. african american)??
Milk Man (3 years ago)
+Blue Lightning TV Lol, that explains why my Kanye did not end up that good on my first try. Thanks for the great guide :)
After the photo is desaturated (removed of all its color), you'd need to brighten the skin tones. There are a few ways to do this. I'd use the Curves adjustment layer and/or the Dodge Tool in the Shadows or Midtones Range.
