How is lactose-free milk made? | Edible Chem

9822 ratings | 339064 views
Have you ever wondered how lactose-free milk is made? Well I did, so I made a video about it. If you want to know more about what milk actually is, you can check out my other milk video: https://youtu.be/BV8aFRII1M4 This is the first video in a while, but I am trying to post more frequently. ------------------------------------------ Nile Red Shop: https://nile.red Patreon: https://goo.gl/3h353G Facebook: https://goo.gl/uyxvJV Twitter: https://goo.gl/uCmnV4 Personal Instagram: https://goo.gl/EdBq4b

Fuck dairy milk, just go vegan. Plant based milks and cheeses are naturally lactose free and your not stealing milk from Animals whom it was intended for.

Really cool idea bro, is it yours?

A mothers cows breast milk is not biological compatible for human health ... Dairy is the leading cause of all human reproductive cancers, heart disease, osteoporosis, sinusitis, acne, and contributes to auto immune disease, diabetes etc. etc. Farms kill the male babies so they don't drink the milk nature created for them to grow rapidly from new born babies to adolescents. So human make the female cows pregnant for 5 years then have them slaughtered... this is only some of the huge amount of injustice and whats wrong with the dairy industry. There are so many plant based milks available like soy, almond, oat, hemp, and so on. Humans will look back at this insane stage in history and they will be shocked at the inhumanity that existed at our hands.

I'm glad Nile eventually got an immersion blender (Used in the soap vids), it'll be way easier to mix things into water like that with one.

Thank you, now I know the scientific details of what's going on in my belly when someone accidentally puts milk in my coffee (or when I don't remember to ask them not to). Now I just need the scientific details on why I find it so incredibly hard to ask for a new cup and rather have the pain and discomfort later than risk social awkwardness. "No, no, it's alright." "Come on, man. It's just a bit of water. I can make you a new one." "No, don't bother. I'll be fine." Three hours later, the narration of Morgan Freeman starts as Morph sits on the toilet: "He was not fine"

Lactose free milk is milk flavored kool aid. So damn sweet. Kinda ruins the fatty component that goes well with sugar bombs like doughnuts.

I've had Fairlife, and I have to say, it definitely tastes different, compared to my store's brand, and to Lactade lactose-free milk. My initial impressions were that it was relatively bitter, but still overall sweet enough to be enjoyed. My biggest issue with it is that it's still just as expensive as the normal lactose-free milks, so there's no real point in getting it over the store brand, unless your some fitness nut who need the added protein.

We buy Mootopia (only available at HEB in Texas), mainly because it claims half the sugar and fat plus increased protein. From what I understood previously they used the filtration method, however according to your video the protein should be filtered out which doesn't match their claim of higher protein. I wonder if they artificially add the protein after filtration. Taste wise I don't notice any difference from lower fat milks like 2%.

I've been drinking whole milk my entire life and love the taste but lactose free milk is even sweeter and healthier, that's a winning combination.

Lactose + Lactase = Lactose-Free. Doesn't make sense to me that they can advertise their products as lactose-free when there is lactose in it. Anyway.
TGITFH (2 months ago)
I've always wondered how this was done. I now understand why a liter of lactose-free milk is so friggin' expensive. Your videos are exceptional.

I didnt realise all the milk I've been buying is lactose free until those ultra filtered and other brand pictures lol it's mostly asians where I live so that makes sense though but I can't believe I never noticed😂😂

Having grown up drinking milk treated with lactase drops, the commercially produced lactose free milk has always tasted funny to me ... And now I know it's because they are removing some of the sugar! How sad :( My mom used to be able to buy lactase drops at our grocery store but they stopped selling them. I will have to check the pharmacy!

I guess this explains why lactose free milk tastes sweeter than regular milk since it has a higher glucose content due to the conversion.

Jaye (5 months ago)
hey, though you might be curious. the fa!rlife milk is something my house started buying recently because of a diagnosis of diabetes the removal of the milk sugar greatly reduces the carbs/sugars in the milk and it is higher in protein as well. my husband says it tastes like normal milk. as someone who has been lactose in tolerant since birth i can attest to the difference in taste of milk made via the other process. when i was younger before i mainly switched to plant based milk i had the tablets and got the lactease free milk at home. and i always noticed a difference.

GeoffryHawk (6 months ago)
When I couldn't drink milk anymore, switching to lactaid milk was kinda a shift but since I prefer whole milk the fat content in the milk really dulled the sweetness and made it taste a lot like normal milk without the odd scum you get on your mouth from normal milk.
