Have you ever wondered how lactose-free milk is made? Well I did, so I made a video about it. If you want to know more about what milk actually is, you can check out my other milk video: https://youtu.be/BV8aFRII1M4 This is the first video in a while, but I am trying to post more frequently. ------------------------------------------ Nile Red Shop: https://nile.red Patreon: https://goo.gl/3h353G Facebook: https://goo.gl/uyxvJV Twitter: https://goo.gl/uCmnV4 Personal Instagram: https://goo.gl/EdBq4b

How is lactose free milk made? In a goat!

hey, though you might be curious. the fa!rlife milk is something my house started buying recently because of a diagnosis of diabetes the removal of the milk sugar greatly reduces the carbs/sugars in the milk and it is higher in protein as well. my husband says it tastes like normal milk. as someone who has been lactose in tolerant since birth i can attest to the difference in taste of milk made via the other process. when i was younger before i mainly switched to plant based milk i had the tablets and got the lactease free milk at home. and i always noticed a difference.

I produce zero lactase and my entire outlook is: "Fuck it, cheese good."
Now it finally makes sense that lactose free milk is so sickening sweet!

When I couldn't drink milk anymore, switching to lactaid milk was kinda a shift but since I prefer whole milk the fat content in the milk really dulled the sweetness and made it taste a lot like normal milk without the odd scum you get on your mouth from normal milk.

This video is literally one of the best sources of knowledge for finding out how lactose free milk is made. Thank you for your work.

I thought that Galactus was created when a dude absorbed a cosmical whatnot before the big bang.. Now i find out that you can become a dude in a funny hat eating planets just by breaking down lactose..cool...

I dont like lactose milk on school.. :(
nobbie01 (1 month ago)
I'm not lactose intolerant... I bought the Fairlife milk one time not knowing it was lactose free, and to be honest, I couldn't tell that it was. Only realised it after I got bored and started reading the bottle label :P My mother is lactose intolerant though and I remember as a kid that her lactose-free milk smelled like a barn to me, I never actually did drink it though, since I couldn't get past the off-putting scent. That Fairlilfe milk I accidentally got didn't have any of that, it tasted just like any other regular milk to me :D

The slight sweetness is the best thing about lactose free milk!

Ok now that was amazing! Do you think you could make a series of videos on how to synthesize different chromatography resins for protein separation? That would be epic!!!! That is supposed to be the most fun a person can have in chemistry 😉, when succesful of course. Please please 😢

Prjndigo (2 months ago)
The ultrafiltered does NOT completely remove Lactose but it can produce products that are comparatively safe in small servings with normal diet as special additions such as Go Veggie's Lactose Free cheese product slices. "Free" doesn't mean 100% gone but it's close enough.
Prjndigo (2 months ago)
Commercial Lactaid milk has an exceptional shelf life compared to regular pasturized milk. The Lactaid Cottage Cheese is better than regular. Keep in mind there is a third form of Lactose intolerance in which the body develops an allergen response and its presence causes acidification and histamine build up to the point that it can burn off the intestinal lining... and butt skin. The PILLS do NOT work. Your stomach digests them.
amazing! thank you! But to increase enzyme efficiency you need to maintain proper temperature (optimal) and pH :) this will help you to reduce amount of runs through the calcium alginate drops

2:36 when you mix it you have to change the carton or what ? :P

You could also take the overpriced lactaid tablets every time you consume dairy. It's pretty effective for me. I just recently started losing some of my ability to break down lactose.

People these days are so lazy they won't separate lactose to glucose and galactose ... instead we need to separate it for them and sell it as another product..

A lot of people? You mean almost everyone on earth except white Europeans. By the way, now I finally know why lactose-free milk taste sweeter. Funny enough because it's sweeter it taste better for me.
Johnny D (1 month ago)
Erik Adalbert van Nagel nah I'm a minority and I drink loads of milk, over 1.5 liter a day. Most of the lactose intolerant people I know are white. The maps are usually obsolete and/or underemployed noneuropean populations

Lactose free milk tastes HORRIBLE!!! I prefer to drink almond milk instead, as it tastes much better, has more electrolytes, and far less fat.

Fairlife chocolate milk is pretty good. tbh I didn't know it was lactose free till after i had finished it.
Dirk van de Kerkhof (3 months ago)
Glad I got that lactase production up to scratch! Couldn't live without good milk/milkproducts. Especially cheese as a Dutchie is important.

Your making me sad because iam lactose intolerant
mickleman52 (3 months ago)
So could you take lactose free milk and mix it with regular milk to make more lactose free milk? You said the enzym can be reused, so in theory if the process is just adding the enzym to milk it is still floating around in the carton.
guisadop (3 months ago)
I don't like lactose-free milk because it tastes too sweet.

Why not modify the enzyme so that it has a higher catalytic rate, then bind lactase to a meshlike wand and sell it to people so they can stick the wand in the milk and then in a day it’ll turn to lactose free milk.
Lillian Swaim (4 months ago)
I'm such a fangirl of this guy, I love food science!!

Don't call it milk! It's not milk. It's processed protein juice. Which sounds as disgusting as it is.

Half-digested milk? Liquid cheese? Concentrated milk? Cause milk is the best word for it, dummy. It doesn't come from nuts or beans, it comes from tits.

What about almond milk
HondaCivicMasterYT (4 months ago)
Omg I’m never gonna drink lactose free ever again
Aslan Burnley (4 months ago)
Ewww, so lactose-free milk is really just partially-digested milk?
Justin Smith (4 months ago)
I didnt know fairlife milk was lactose free when I bought it, didn't taste different to me. I bought it because the beat by date was 3 months out instead of 2 weeks to a month out like the regular milk.
