Dreaming of Africa

6 ratings | 2799 views
In 1893, English woman Mary Kingsley set off on her first exploration of West Africa. Victorian ladies were not expected to travel abroad alone, especially to dangerous, unknown regions! Mary recorded her discoveries in the book 'Travels in West Africa'. She was the first person to climb Mount Cameroon, she studied Jungle tribes who were previously reported to be cannibals and discovered new species of river fish for the British Museum. Her book is a wonderful portrait of both her and the parts of Africa that she grew to love.
