Alexander McQueen A/W RTW 2008, The Girl Who Lived in The Tree

1096 ratings | 208818 views
Based on the British Empire, the Queens of England, the Duke of Wellington, toy soldiers and punk princesses, this fashion fairy tale is dominated by an ancient tulle-wrapped tree referencing the work of the artist, Christo. For the first half of the show our heroine is dressed in beautiful rags: nipped waisted jackets, Victorian-line dresses with S-bend corseted tops, textured, hand-knitted mohair and washed tweeds all in dark or neutral colours lend a make-do-and-mend feel to the proceedings. It isn't long, though, before our Princess meets her Prince Charming, at which point she descends from her treetop habitat and finds all the riches of the world at her disposal. Her clothing duly explodes into colour and references everything from the wardrobe of the young Princess Elizabeth --crimson velvet New Look dresses, ermine wraps and a bastardised Union Jack print - to the palaces of the Maharajas -- a draped, predominantly empire-line silhouette finished with paper-flat embroidered slippers, each pair bespoke and created to complement its own outfit.

beautiful collection. as for twig figure comment, this is a business. each garments are expensive to make, not some cheap products like h&m. The fabric alone, such as the finale gown cost probably above 100 USD a yard and something like that take about 15 to 20 yards. the models are not anorexic. they are thin. I know a lot of friends that are that heights and that weight naturally.
Beth Morgan Valvo (1 year ago)
True but to deny that the fashion industry is anti "curve" is disingenuous at least.

FUCK. That Ninja-inspired one at 1:55 onwards is like Japan under Britain! WERQ!

What a beautiful and dramatic show. I love the short, voluminous dresses covered with feathers.
kam lam (4 years ago)
Why is it enjoyable to watch these twig stick figures in finely sculpted clothes?  Bit of a waste isn't it, all the work just to make it for the "mini" market?
Asper Rin (1 year ago)
kam lam I'd dred the world you'd create. Absolute functionality and blandness I suppose. If you evoke a single feeling g from these creations he's done a great job.

¿What´s Art and what´s Fashion when we talk about Alexander McQueen?
Asper Rin (1 year ago)
Edmundo Abel Berenguer Portilla It's the same really. Symbyosis. However there's also an absurd theatricality as well. Humor is the absurd.
Holly IsAwesome (5 years ago)
LOOOVE the Nirvana orchestrals and that he sent hoodies to runway. I get sad every time I realize how limited his work is.

This was my favorite all-time collection period. It was McQueen's work that first caught my eye and introduced me to fashion as art. He opened up a whole world for me. He is sorely & exceedingly missed :(

Adler36 (6 years ago)
McQueen is my hero and this is one of my favourite collections. By the way: Does anybody know the name of the music, please? Thanks a lot!
Adriana Francesca (6 years ago)
Thanks for your answer.
Yukikoandthe (6 years ago)
1. Plenty of people namely: Lady Gaga, Daphne Guinness, and Bjork. I own a pair of the Armor Wedge shoes from the A/W 2011 Collection and probably buy some more clothes or shoes 2. Unfortunately, yes he did commit suicide. The world lost a gem.
Adriana Francesca (6 years ago)
Wow! this collection is beautiful, the scenario and music. Everything is perfect. I just have some questions. Who buy and wear this clothes? It is true the British designer Alexander McQueen committed suicide in 2010? I hope somebody can answer me. Thank you
Pa Dg (1 month ago)
Yes, it's true that he commited suicide
Katia (6 years ago)
I love the Nirvanasong in classic form. Really cool.
mrblf652 (6 years ago)
It is so sad that a genius like Alexander is not with us anymore.
Lisa Anneliese Theron (6 years ago)
I love the Nirvana songs in those renditions, I think it's haunting and beautiful, changing rebellious rock songs and adding a certain class and elegance to it with the violins to merge the music with the garments. I get sad when I watch this show, Alexander was the best and will always be.
Yukikoandthe (6 years ago)
you don't have to excuse yourself for stating your opinion. I do agree that some of the new collections are rather boring but i like a few of the pieces from the McQueen A/W RTW 2011 collection but I guess we all agree that Sarah Burton doesn't try to take enough risk with designs as Lee did.
Yukikoandthe (6 years ago)
the sound has a delay....
paranoidandroid1997 (6 years ago)
finally, the girl who live in the tree with sound and complete
