Alexander McQueen S/S RTW 2001, VOSS (Full Runway Show)

1032 ratings | 219173 views
For the 2001 spring/summer "VOSS" collection McQueen seated the audience around a giant mirrored cube. The show was late (on purpose) and the audience was forced to stare at themselves until finally the cube lit up revealing a mental-hospital setting. The set was disturbing but the frocks were theatrical. Kate Moss and Erin O'Connor were trapped inside the cube as was a naked Michelle Olley who reclining on a couch breathing through a tube. The elaborate show that cost £70,000 to produce and set actually took seven days to construct.

Cold. Harsh. Disturbing. This show to me feels like the essence of a Francis Bacon painting. So raw and unique. Only recently started looking further into McQueen and his shows are all absolutely incredible, this has to be my favourite however. Gosh, that reveal at the end. Awe inspiring.

bland and pretentious.

3:45 Erin O'Connor was spectacular minutes before she was on, Mcqueen told her to have a panic attack of sort & to rip off the dress and she delivered on stage like a true artist only can.

Me encanta Alexander, porque sus modelos deben tener actitud, soy modelo hace años y creo que no solo somos perchas humanas, sino chicas con sabor, olor y color capaz de transmitir emociones solo con el cuerpo y la mirada...eso es Alexander!

It's 00s house/dance/electronic sound mixed with tech and lots of breakbeat elements... The track is: Azzido Da Bass - Dooms Night (Timo Maas Remix)

astrovan14 (2 years ago)
on wikipedia it says "the seated audience saw only their own reflection". this cannot be right. someone help me understand :(
astrovan14 (2 years ago)
incredible! thank you so much for the clarification.
lostfaithand (2 years ago)
astrovan14 basically the show was some sort of take on vanity and insecurities, what happened was when the audience were seated all they could see was a mirrored box, McQueen, wanted them to be able to see themselves and hence become anxious about their own appearance, it was only when the show begun, that due to the special mirrored glass and the turning on of the lights inside the box that it became transparent and they could see the show....standard McQueen genius

For once in my life I am actually lost for words but I'm going to try.. I am absoloutly astounded beyond belief the talent that Alexander McQueen had was so great that it can not be measured by any words I have never doubted for a second how creative he was but as I stumbled upon this show today and watched in awe it suddenly dawned on me that the date of the show which is 2001 and I sit here today in 2016 I realise that I'm watching a show that is 15 years old and what has led me to write this comment is that this could have been produced yesterday and that is what true talent and art is, absolutely timeless as if frozen in time forever.. Never before and never again will fashion have such dazzling brilliance..

Some elements sound similar but it's not Mr. Oizo's Flat Beat... It's actually Azzido Da Bass - Dooms Night (Timo Maas Remix)

Well, I came across this by chance. I never knew who Alexander McQueen was to be honest. This is what happens when you look up one person the connections you find with another person. I wanted to see what VOSS was all about, so I was lucky someone posted this on You Tube. I'm not a fashion expert but I know art when I see it and this is art. Thanks for sharing this video, one of the most amazing fashion shows I've ever seen in my life.
