Why no Pendalhaven? It's great!
jsvaldes88 (25 days ago)
What is the song name played in the beginning of the elf deck? It's sounds cool and foresty.
InfernoBoy8 (2 months ago)
I... I... I give up. I won't start winning with these modified planeswalker decks but every self-built deck is either terrible or way too expensive. It's impossible to win at a friday night magic as a kid with no reliable money source.
the DICKENS (3 months ago)
just found this channel so I'm late to the party. ...thoughts off the dome. playset of Chord and a playset of Manamorphose could make this a new Toolbox deck...with nigh unlimited options in the sideboard. ...also scrap all the NB lands, run a set of Terramorphic Expanse, and whatever that other card is called that does the exact same thing for parity for singleton lands...come to think of it, Edge of Autumn would be dope too with the t1 ramp... ...I think I need to build a deck now
Luca Masseroni (3 months ago)
Lol. Now the cavern is 80 euros for one
Hendrik Daniels (3 months ago)
You can add some steel leafea
Andrew Laverghetta (4 months ago)
Awesome, 3 years later, this deck is over $600 in paper.
kyle Matthiesen (4 months ago)
Prof I’ve been doing my studying and Im curious why a play set of Shaman of the pack isn’t a must in this build,With coco so easily able to dig for it?
kyle Matthiesen (4 months ago)
figured it out mono green. couldnt we splash though or would fetches raise prices too much?
scott cisek (4 months ago)
Ugh I wish cavern of souls was only 35 bucks lol fucking humans....
Andrew Lim (4 months ago)
Why do people think that $300 is a lot for a deck this competitive?? Decks on a similar power level cost triple this, and the price tag isn't even a lot in a vacuum.
Dreadlord77 (5 months ago)
lol Cavern of Souls at $35
Jared Murphy (5 months ago)
Remember when Cavern of souls was only $35? I don't....
John Howard (6 months ago)
When cavern of souls was $35.....rip lol
Stephan Wyrsta (7 months ago)
Lol, Cavern of Souls for only $35 a piece. Right now, it's more than double

Watching this and looking at current pricing for some cards is great, lol. COUGH CAVERN OF SOULS COUGH

Isn't Budget under $100
francesco sfoggia (7 months ago)
What about gaea’s herald?
Cer Luigi Dela Cruz (8 months ago)
Is this still pretty good today and how much is this now? Thank you in advance.
Jacob Tipton (8 months ago)
Lol, I wish Cavern of Souls was only $35 each. Price has gone up almost 3x that. Hell it's pretty much doubled since I got them last year for $45.
Declan O’Connor (9 months ago)
Hey chord has gone up to like 10$ and I have 1
I. Korezom (9 months ago)
I like elves.
Icebot25 (11 months ago)
I like to use woodland bellower because it’s a 6/5 body that tutors for answers
Alex Young (11 months ago)
Instead of some of those cards to draw in his deck... more budget cards would be Lead the Stampede (for collected company) and Genesis Wave for in general going through your deck and playing everything fast
Alex Young (11 months ago)
And Triumph of the Horde may add a little price but it's just so broken in a agro deck like tribal elves. Used it in a 4 player ffa, to put all 3 other players out on turn 7 ;)
Hans Gerber (1 year ago)
I still remember the time when I thought 50 $ on a deck was much
Ymiraku (1 year ago)
no wellwisher's?

What are your thoughts on a Green, Splash Blue Elf Token deck utilizing Intruder Alarm and Presence of Gond?

Who the hell has less than 2000 in student loans 0:10
Pivotguy199235 (10 months ago)
Zephyr Nace-Beach currently me paying for it out of pocket no student debt if I can absolutely help it
Aidan Durrant (1 year ago)
I personally would run black for shaman of the pack and maybe nath.
Josh Arnold (1 year ago)
I ran a monsterous elf deck once with a splash of blue for master biomancer and zamek guildmage biomancer would keep my creatures huge while zamek kept my hand full it could be some great alternatives to some of these expensive Choice of cards

Luis Miguel Martín (1 year ago)
Hey professor I know it is an old video, but I wanted to know your opinion about fetchlands on this deck. If I can afford them how many fetchlands should I run???
Nanofuture87 (1 year ago)
Fetchlands in a mono-color deck only matter if the deck sees a lot of cards (i.e. your deck is mono-blue) or you have cards with landfall triggers.
Austin P (1 year ago)
This is what happened: Sees release date of video Checks current pricing for cards in video Sees 300$ price tag Checks new price tag Sees 500$ price tag Sees word "budget" Dead.
MrRancid1988 (1 year ago)
This deck has 61 Main deck cards....where did this happen? Lol
BoopStabber (1 year ago)
I could make a budget deck for $10

oh thank for putting the deck list in the description
Bryce Gillam (1 year ago)
I spent $30 on my elf deck 😂
SKOREVIL 55 (1 year ago)
I'm running the black green version of elves would it be terrible to run 17 lands instead of 18
Jeffrey Hubbard (2 years ago)
So I built a mono red burn modern deck the other day. loosly based off your video on mono red
Chance Lozier (2 years ago)
This deck is actually down to bout $140 on tcg player right now. Thinking bout making this my first modern deck.
Bavarian Wolf (1 year ago)
link?
Matt Brooks (1 year ago)
+Chance Lozier there is a better "starter" modern beatdown elves deck that you can upgrade later to be a really competitive! It starts for around 88 bucks on TCG
Nice!
Cole Cambruzzi (2 years ago)
Love this video. I'm building a version of elves for my first foray into standard because the deck really called to me. I'm choosing to splash black for Shaman of the Pack, which strikes me as a cool card. It's worth noting that Heritage druid has dropped a lot. I got my playset for $12 total. I am also omitting Chord of Calling and going instead with Lead the Stampede. I'm also considering Descendant's Path because I already have a few copies. I was able to put my build together for around $90.
Aze light (2 years ago)
Funny, the elf deck I want to run, mostly optimized cost less than $100, I say mostly because screw Cavern I ain't paying that much for a land.
gsimon123 (2 years ago)
4x Arbor Elf, 4x Voyaging Satyr, 4x Overgrowth, and 4x Utopia Sprawl and you will have some pretty serious ramp regardless of anything else in your deck. Modern legal. The trick is you make your lands give more mana every time they tap and then you untap them with the arbor elf and satyrs to double their output. These are all really cheap and you can get some big monsters in very fast. I built a deck around this to bring in big wurms for $50. Solid base and less $$$

*Sees budget elves in title* *Sees price tags is $300* *Dies*
Matt The Man (2 years ago)
TheMiner2S yeah but that's the nonbudget version though. Granted the budget version is 175, but it's cheaper than 300
lonker (2 years ago)
I might actually get this deck. Elves might be one of my favorite tribes and CoCo is now at an all time low of $6 after rotation
lonker (2 years ago)
In fact, now without Cavern of Souls, Spellskite, and the Sideboard, I could get it for $140
Chris Moses (2 years ago)
Some minor tweaks, this deck cost me less than $75. I've topped FMNs and become the scourge of my playgroup with this deck. Highest amount I've ever done with this deck is around 400 damage turn 3-4. This deck is insanely fun.
test name (2 years ago)
Couldn't you save a lot of money and replace heritage druid with something like cryptolith rite, which will have the same effect except: they don't have to be tapped together, it isn't subject to creature removal, and it costs 1 more?
Ethan Hai (2 years ago)
All these prices dropped drastically. Check Amazon

Nik The Lehner 'I wish humans where better' looking at this comment t now makes me laugh
Nik The Lehner (2 years ago)
Well I am more focused on modern...I don´t want my cards to be worthless after a year of play as I dont get to play very often.
minihali (2 years ago)
Aren't zombies meta? And humans would be awesome. But since we aren't in innistrad, zombies might take a while. Hopefully modern dwarfs will be a thing after aether revolt
Nik The Lehner (2 years ago)
Piledriver and Reckless Bushwhacker are nice but they are still hanging out in Tier 3 while Elves is truly the better deck. Hopefully they continue printing some good goblins. That being said, I would wish for more love for other tribal strategies. Humans got better in SOI but still not good enough and black doesn´t have any playable tribe. (I would love to play Zombies as well.)
minihali (2 years ago)
Elves got a whole lot of good cards in the form of the glit-leaf elves, and Dwynens elite while we got a reprint of piledriver. One of the good ''new'' cards for goblins is reckless bushwhacker, but that is a worse reprint of goblin bushwacker. And that is without mentioning collected company, which took elves from good, to really good. I've even seen goblins splash green just for collected. But it is in flavor for goblins to charge head first into battle and die, which is very much what modern goblins is doing. I would just so dearly wish for some new goblin cards to spice it up a little. Even if it is more reprints, of legacy only cards.
Karlo Angelo Serrano (2 years ago)
Looks great! I've played monogreen elves when I started playing mtg. Too bad I can't spend 300$+ just to relive that experience again. At least, I now have an idea what modern elves deck looks like.
elmoisamac (2 years ago)
You should can build this pretty "cheap" right now. I just put it together with a budget sideboard and land-base and it only cost me about $150. It isn't cheap, but it is really fun to play and should be around for a while.
SuneEnough (2 years ago)
Cavern of Souls for $35?! You got lucky, it costs twice as much here.
drpureone 1752 (2 years ago)
I have a request how about a deck with 4 hellcarver demon in it
Matt Osburn (2 years ago)
lol I'm so glad I bought my caverns 6 or 7 months ago... they are so freaking expensive now
Bad Karma (2 years ago)
Jesus, I think I'll stick to my mono green elf deck that focuses around wren's run packmaster that cost me maybe $30. It doesn't win every game, but once I start turning out hoards of 2/2 wolfs with deathtouch, it doesn't do bad. That and it feels good knowing I can still eat dinner that night.
MovieMan47 (2 years ago)
Heritage Druid is dirt cheap now but coco and chord of calling have gone up. I hope that coco will go down after it rotates. Eternal witness is also down. This is probably cheaper
Jose Carrasquillo (2 years ago)
Would you consider Sylvan Advocate?? Is it viable? Please let me know.
Pablo Serna (2 years ago)
anyone who is trying to build a MORE budget version of this should replace chord of calling for a genesis hydra. it does similar things even thought chors will always be better.
Genesis Lucero (2 years ago)
Nice guide. As of now, I play Abzan Elves for modern. :)
Noah Bunis (2 years ago)
Splash black for shaman+removal , remove cocos (me like see the unwritten) or build after rotation, add Dwynen for fun, AND YOU GOT A LEGASY DECK
Noah Bunis (2 years ago)
Id rather run two natural orders and make it legacy than buy 4 cocos
Pablo Serna (2 years ago)
if you are going legacy then look into a playset of wirewood symbiote. they are AMAZING synergistic creature with many versatile uses!
Homeward Path Gaming (2 years ago)
Another clever option is to splash Blue for Intruder Alarm, and Imperious Prefect... it lets you make infinite 2/2 Elf tokens.... so long as you have a mana dork laying around
Josh Dracoian (2 years ago)
When it comes to elf decks, I always splash black. For extra removal and hate with cards like duress and so on. And shaman of the pack is a good finisher, in my opinion.
Dreznin (2 years ago)
You can save some money by running Gaea's Herald over Cavern of Souls in order to stop counters, but it does have the problem of easily being removed from the field. Still, $1/ea is a hell of a lot cheaper than Cavern.
SimplyAWitch9 (2 years ago)
wizards has gone and screwed over the playerbase yet again with the new rotation system changes. i know many who now Only play EDH due to standard being stupid economically and modern just being stupid on entry. and i know a few myself included who switched games or left.
Joaquin De Castro (2 years ago)
+Matt Osburn Absolutely. I tried building my own Standard deck for Shadows, but then I realized it'll rotate in just a few months. Instead I spent the money on an EDH deck so I had something without an expiration date. Not to mention everybody at my LGS plays Pauper instead of Modern now what with every deck in that format costing $500+. Sad how Wizards pushes so much for Standard without realizing that Standard is the least affordable nor efficient format, and with that Eternal formats and Modern suffers as well.
Matt Osburn (2 years ago)
modern is dead in my town now... they used to have a night for it every week but it got replaced by cube, good news is pauper night happens now which is stupid cheap only 50 bucks for the best deck in the meta can't beat that

SimplyAWitch9 (2 years ago)
budget deck should mean less than £100 in any game, jesus christ
SimplyAWitch9 (2 years ago)
+Guillaum27 I switched to force of will, not as wide spread but theres a decent playerbase at my local card shop, its got a well developed tournament scene despite being young and it plays a bit like magic but with some welcome changes. most decks are under 100 bar foiled out decks which cost way more or extremely meta decks which might come a bit above
Aleara (2 years ago)
+SimplyAWitch9 Wizards are doing a very good job at making Magic an extremely pricey game. They wouldn't be doing anything differently if they wanted the game to be accessible only to the wealthiest. Magic is a fun game, but Wizards do everything they can to make it harder and harder to play. Makes me sad.
TabletopGamer99 (2 years ago)
This deck went up in price dramatically since this video was posted...
the tinkerer (2 years ago)
I swear in one of your videos you give Fertile Thicket an honorable mention as an underrated green mana source. I can't find it!
demonzero677 (2 years ago)
Hey professor. thoughts on using a handful of Wood Elves in combination with the new Canopy Vista to do a white splash build? Wood Elf can grab the Vista since it's a forest plains and the vistas aren't too horribly priced from what I know. Also, considering making the deck myself, and slipping in one or maybe two Blightsteal Colossus because I love artifacts, and with all the crazy mana you can pump into Chord, throwing one out at the end of your opponent's turn isn't hard, and leads too....pain. lots of pain.
dalton kelahan (2 years ago)
I'm amazed nykthos is so cheap still

I posted a fully upgraded G/B Elves deck, it costs $1000! It's almost like every higher deck in this format costs $1000!

With all that ramp why not just run Joraga War Callers? Kick em like 4 times and he enters with 4 1/1 counters and all elves you control get +x+x where x is the number of counters on joraga war caller
Alexander Shen (2 years ago)
he says "3 nykthos", but then shows 4x. WHY professor?
James Love (2 years ago)
Plow under is what the old extended mono green tempo decks ran. It is super amazing.
James Love (2 years ago)
You got all that mana and no plow under? What the heck? Why not drop a turn 3 plow under?
Greg Jones (2 years ago)
Got this deck 95% built ... OMG! A few test sessions (solo) and it appears to be BRUTAL. I'm going to need more D6's to keep track of my +1/+1's!!!
Pablo Serna (2 years ago)
just a tip. i always use 2 D12 to keep track of things if they go above 10 bc then you can have 1 d12 be the 10s and the other be the 1s place so then you can keep count of something up to 129
A Ham (2 years ago)
I've been running Collected Elves lately and I seem to dominate Merfolk, which is odd. It seems like fish should dumpster me, with their semi-control creature-aggro style. Not even the spreading seas affect me much, since I'm usually using my mana dorks to continually power out dudes. Maybe I'm lucky, but I always seem to draw a Collected Company or Chord right when I need it to toolbox for whatever answer I need. Before you know it, my board is swarming with buffed, pointy-eared menaces overrunning the lines and I generally seal the game around turn 5, sometimes 6. Now if only we could get a really competitive soldier deck in modern...
Koutentogiwrghs (2 years ago)
Brings back memories! In 2011 I was playing an aggro-elves deck with Fauna shaman, Lead the Stampede, Green Suns Zenith, Vengevines and 22 lands! (way too many for an elves deck) at my local FNM, quite successfully I might add :) Vengevines and lands worked great because there were many Day of Judgements (and Ezuri was not out all of time), you see it was the caw blade era back then, well and Linvala was sidedecked :P Many times the win was decided by Venge-swinging for 8-12 from the grave. New Phyrexia was great also with Spellskite (Fauna Shaman's bf) and Beast Within. Also the most enjoyable thing I have done with this deck was Viridian Corrupting a turn 3 Batterskull and a turn 5 one (resolving a GSZ despite the mana leak) and winning with infect! Regal force would be a great singleton for such a deck, Arbor elves can untap shocklands which may come in handy because that Shaman of the pack seems super sweet :) Seems like I will give Magic another swing after all :) All in all, I have all the really costly cards. For the rest, it seems like I can sell the tons of lightning bolts I have, I still cannot believe that they got 2.5 bucks each :P
Inked Blessed (2 years ago)
Can u do a video on what is modern, standard, legacy, vintage ect. If you do not already have one posted up? Would be a great help so I can understand more about magic. Great videos by the way!
Jbay2608 (2 years ago)
With the exchange rate the way it is now, $300.00 works out to a full months rent and utilities for me...Guess I'll be sticking to drafts and a cheap standard deck for now.

I've been playing a pretty decent brewed G/B elves deck for standard. I wonder if I could convert with some of these cards into a decent Modern deck. I don't need tier 1 or anything. Just something to play and have fun.
Logan Ace (3 years ago)
There's lots of ramp But where does the ramp go to- You can't ramp that much to pump ezuri because you're tapping the things that benefit from it So what do you ramp to-
am not spam bot llc. (2 years ago)
Early on, cast lots of spells each turn. Late game, they're all 3/3s and 4/4s, who cares about mana?
