24 HOURS IN HELSINKI FINLAND

Please like share and subscribe to TrekTrendy for more worldwide travel vlogs: http://bit.ly/1WNqym8 Flight layovers can be an awesome opportunity to explore a new city, and this is exactly what happened here. I had 24 hours in Helsinki, Finland to explore the city in between my flight from London and my flight to Gdansk. I stayed at the Hilton airport hotel over night as my flight from London arrived quite late. I made sure I woke pretty early the next day so I could have a good few hours of exploring the city. I took the new airport train which took about 20 minutes into the city costing 4 euros each way. Getting into Helsinki central station you think it's firstly quite a modern building but upon entering the main area it's got a really cool art deco feel to it. After checking the Trip Advisor app to ensure I was heading in the right direction I came across a gorgeous park in the centre of town. There also was a bunch of live music and a market on which I investigated. It was like a British car boot sale but instead in a park! I then passed a floating market selling fresh seafood and then went onto the pier to get my first look at this gorgeous city. Wow Helsinki you are amazing! I could see where I'd been walking and the three main areas I wanted to see, which as you'll see in the video were: the Uspenski Cathedral, Helsinki wheel, and the Senate Square where I was able to explore the main Helsinki Cathedral. Checkout the video and let me know what you think, but for a few hours in the city I think I managed to fit quite a lot in! ----- Background music ----- Music: Aritus – Flight by Aritus is licensed under a Creative Commons License.https://soundcloud.com/aritusmusic/flight ----- Image use ----- With special thanks to Hilton hotels for use of their hotel image.

I was in Helsinki, but I think architecture (functionalism) is the best there. The real journey begins in Africa. I recommend Togo, Ghana, Senegal. Only I saw them. Was great. Greetings from Poland.

That would be great. South Africa is a bit artificial (synthetic) because it was created by the apartheid system. In my humble/modest opinion, other African countries are more interesting. Those in which black people live their own way. I am very curious about Angola, Cameroon or Gambia, Mozambique or other. Apparently there is a tourist strip in Gambia where everyone is going. But just leave 30 km and you have another real Africa. If you have any interesting materials from Africa, please show me a great satisfaction. Perhaps some may be inspiration for my travels. Thank you and best regards

Thank you for visiting my hometown, hope you liked it (^‿^) I enjoyed your video a lot, you really caught the best parts of it. But Helsinki is growing rapidly, there are now two giant malls and skyscrapers being built close to city center, one in Kalasatama (opening in 2018) and the other in Pasila (opening in 2019) Hope you will be back again.

Thanks for the cool video! Great to see your own hometown through visitors eyes. Yes the Orthodox church has a lot of bling bling and the Lutheran Protestant one is white and simple. Helsinki is great in summer, a lot of visitors, perhaps you noticed the Asian tourists, a lot of them nowadays. Thats mainly bacause HEL airport has become a busy hub for flights to Asia.

+jonnenne Thats not true, Tampere has no budget airline services in winter, in summer there are Ryanair flights to Budapest and Bremen and nothing more. If looking budget options to Lapland then Norwegian (or Monarch) is the best choice from UK, direct or via HEL:

+Trek Trendy In winter there are direct scheduled flights to Finnish Lapland from London Gatwick on Norwegian, Monarch, Finnair (W17/18) and from Manchester on Monarch. I would recommend to come later in spring around March, more daylight and less cold but still a full winter. And probably less tourists, Lapland seems to be in now.

You should look into going through Tampere if you wanna save money. Most budget airlines operate through there because that airport is smaller and much cheaper for the airlines.
Trek Trendy (1 year ago)
Amazing, thanks for the advice :) I think that will have to be 2018 then. I guess the best way to get there is via Helsinki?
jonnenne (1 year ago)
I don't know if you check comments on old videos but I would recommend late January until mid-end of March to go to Lapland. That way you can experience the winter without the almost non-existing sunlight.

Mate, your editing is superb! Absolute pleasure to watch. Subscribed, mate!

Thanks bro appreciate the kind words. Don't you find one of the hardest parts to an edit is finding music and then matching it. I think it's got to be the lengthiest part (aside from filming of course aha)
