If only the leaders of the world had even a small percentage of this man's humility.

Now in his 80s, Feeney has left himself with about $2 million worth of wealth to live on — less than 0.001% of the $8 billion he's given away. Dwyer's details about how Feeney lived his day-to-day life may be equally remarkable. Feeney: Flew coach until he was 75 years old.Jan 6, 2017

He reminds me of my Dad, who came from South Buffalo Irish, and wasn't rich but was involved in education, and was in Japan after WWII, and went to college and died at 92, and had 9 kids.

This man's story somehow touched my soul! You'll never run out of people you can help! I'll remember that one.
Jonny2plates (5 years ago)
Feeney said. "I set out to work hard, not to get rich." -Ref wikipedia In the first 10 minutes its clear that he in all his greatness in fact did.I never understand this with entrepreneurs this idea of being resolute that it was not for the "money".Although it may not be your 1st goal their is such things as multiple goals how would you survive if you weren't in the slightest way profitable?

The problems are many, but the solution is the same, education.

I hugely admire Chuck Feeney, I'm from Limerick and although I didn't go to University, you can see throughout the city the difference he has made. The UL campus is very beautiful and dramatically changed since its days as NIHE. Thanks to Chuck Feeney and Ed Walsh, Limerick is a destination university for people from all over the world. (although, it does churn out a lot of Phys. Ed. teachers!)

It would be interesting to have a chat with Mr. Feeney on the effectiveness of "teaching" entrepreneurship and whether the academic study of entrepreneurship in today's universities actually helps those with entrepreneurial ambitions!

Yes, The Atlantic Philanthropies are still operating. In keeping with Chuck Feeney's Giving While Living philosophy, we will conclude grantmaking by 2016 and close our doors by 2020.

Chuck Feeney has enabled every part of my life and millions more who have no idea of this. I went to the University of Limerick, work in R&D and am close to the issues of the North, all of which Chuck has touched with his philanthropy. This country of ours, north and south owes him an immense amount of gratitude and respect. A true interspersion to us all, many billionaires the world over could learn a lot from Chuck Feeney. Thank you Chuck for your wise investment in the future our our country.

I praise Mr. Feeney for giving while living. I however disagree with the concept of spending down a foundations assets, essentially killing your legacy for future generations. A hybrid approach would be give some away and the rest you invest into social entrepreneurship projects,by social I mean fair. Alot of Billionares are philanthropic just by running their businesses and paying their employees fair wages and benefits, and empowering their employees to support their families and have dignity.

Remarkable person ................a real saint he is. This inspied me to ''GIVING WHILE LIVING'' you cannot take it with you to the grave. So ''giving while living'' counts. At least you see where it's going . Doing good for those who want to be good people..
Grace (6 years ago)
He is a real living SAINT..................remarkable great person. This inspired me to '' giving while living;; What you give while living counts. When one dies and leave it you have no choice you cannot take it with you to the grave. When you give it while living you are seeing the good it's doing.

Have always lived my life trying to do one nice thing for someone each day. It's amazing the impact you can have on people, even if your not rich. Hats off to Chuck Feeney, Now all we need is health care for those of us with serious dental problems. So many in the U.S. die needlessly and painfully, just because moms like mine and other pregnant military moms-to-be in Palmdale didn't know there was tetracycline in the drinking water. Alot of us suffered a lifetime because of it.

Proud to be of Irish origin - but I'm not surprised at this depth of generosity. The Irish, left to their own devices, are generous and creative to a near crazy degree. It's not remotely due to Catholicism otherwise we'd hear of American-Polish or American-Italian philanthropy to their ancestral countries of equal magnitude and we don't. Or maybe they are even more secretive. Clever buggers.
