Regarding the next to skin comfort thing in the description: Many times while backpacking during the hot summer and early fall months, I've found myself out in a rainstorm wearing just my rain shell and a tshirt underneath. One jacket in particular used to feel pretty gross on my exposed arms. It was uncomfortable enough that it was noticeable at times. I've never been out on a hike on day where it was hot enough that I'd go shirtless with just my rain jacket on, but I could imagine that happening. It really depends on how often you're out in the woods, and what kind of climate you're in. I can absolutely confirm though, that the interiors of some jackets really do feel uncomfortable against the skin. Now this doesn't speak to the Thunderhead, as I don't own one (actually watching your video to help decide if it's going to be my next rain jacket), but them stating that it's a feature makes sense to me. Let's just blame the cold medicine :P Thanks for the great in depth review!

It's a great jacket, I'm pretty sure you'll be very pleased with it. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated.

I had a similar lining in an eddie Bauer jacket disintegrate I wonder how this would hold up? My military surplus French rain coat is pretty good.

I don't think they make that jacket for someone like yourself who's doing the things you do. I personally, even when I was working never wore a rain jacket. I always wore Carhart and was in and out of a truck. Which brings me to what I was going to say. You're kind of working when you're out there, maybe Carhart or someone like that would have what you're looking for. Maybe better yet, hunting gear! It doesn't have to be Real Tree camo or Mossy Oak camo, maybe they have something more plain. I never thought I would wear one of those camo jackets especially since I went to a class to get a hunting license and every-single--person had the same damn jacket. I mean like 50 people, they looked like clones. Anyway we have a store called Ollies that sells stuff really cheap due to little problems, you know like those places that sell appliances cheap because they have a little dent or scratch. They had Mossy Oak camo jackets for like $30, into the shopping cart it went, and turns out I really like it. That's another thing about hunting clothes is they're probably at least water resistant. So there you go, work and hunting gear! Have a good one. Mike

Great review Tim! Good looking jacket! I may have to pick one up. If you don't mind saying, which size are you wearing? Thanks in advance, and have a very Merry Christmas! :-)

Thanks for the info brother! I like my jackets the same way, so I can layer up as well. Be good, stay safe, and may God bless. :-)

I'm wearing a 2XL. I like em large so I can fit a fleece and other clothing underneath. I'm also 225lbs and I stand about 5'11" with my hiking boots. Hoped that helps. Thank you for stopping by. Be well & stay safe.

Thanks for sharing Tim, I too like the tans and olive colors for my outdoor gear, but functionallity comes before color and fashion. By the way, did you ever come across the source of the "Bigfoot smell"?
TheTacticalDefender (3 years ago)
Hello my friend, I have a video coming out soon about that "smell"... Thank you for stopping by. Be safe.
