In this video I outline some of the observation I had made relating to hair during my travels across West Africa. I visited Gambia, Guinea Bissau and lived in both Nigeria and Senegal. I enjoyed my time in West Africa and learnt a great deal from each nation I visited. Natural Hair in West Africa is still not as common as it is in the west. However, there are small pockets across the state that embrace natural hair. Ohh wow .. Yoruba and Ga ♥️♥️ New subbie .. I stayed in Ghana for a while but I’m in Nigeria now. I want to go to Kenya next 🇳🇬🇬🇭 This video is very informative. Nigerian women see natural hair differently😩 they think you are religious or just broke and can’t afford weave 😭😭

It would be interesting to know if there is any correlation between natural hair and colonialism. Did you set up these natural hair events on your own accord?
Rae Talks (11 months ago)
It really would be! Yes I did. Minus the one in Senegal there was a team of us D

Great video girl,I’m glad you visited... it’s really hard in West Africa, when it comes to natural hair, all sorts of negativity will be thrown at you ,most especially Nigeria women, they believe too much in wearing their Brazilian hair 🙄😏. I hope someday the Natural hair movement will affect West Africans too.

I am glad I went too! I cannot wait to go to Ghana and see what it is like there. I dont think it is any better to be honest. What i found is that women are in want of learning more about natural hair and most are receptive however the stigma is still very much there. They really do! I did not see that many great weaves to be honest :( I hope so!
