Thanks, Paul. I used VitualBox 6.0 and after a couple of attempts everything worked fine. Next, I'll be learning to set up a Virtual Server Farm and taking over the world. WIsh me luck. Oh Yeah, I promise to use my powers for good.

Whats difference between host-only adapter and internal network? Would they work similarly in this case?

Sound stops part way through the video, sound worked on the fancy intro part just as it got into details nothing.

I have been looking into this mess for 4 hours by now, until I stumbled upon your video. As it turns out, the only step I kept missing was the part where you unticked Ethernet2 checkboxes. Now it works like a charm. You are a life saver, sir!

Thats a great video, Thank you for sharing. Im woindering if you wanted to join those VMs together as 2 DCs in a forest, if you would have to change the dns entries to that of the main DC in the forest. It seems that with a google dns server, the authentication would faill when trying to join the forest. I could be wrong but just wondering what you think ? Thansk again

i was working through a cybrary lecture on malware analysis and in order to make a safe lab the guy had a kali VM with NAT working as a router for a windows XP VM which he was using to test run malware. He did it through VMWare so the terminology was different - if you use this method, would the XP machine be safely insulated from the rest of the network?
Aya Jazuly (2 months ago)
its not working, cant access by another computer..
XoXo Bes Of The Wall (2 months ago)
new version no "host-only network"
Instructor Paul (2 months ago)
Its better to use a NAT Network unless you specifically need to connect to your VM from your host computer.
XoXo Bes Of The Wall (2 months ago)
hi is that same speed network? your main pc and virtual machine?
Aya Jazuly (2 months ago)
is this can access by other computer on diferent network?
Aya Jazuly (2 months ago)
+Instructor Paul its ok, i just want to know how you set it up...
Instructor Paul (2 months ago)
+Aya Jazuly I have made a course on this but it is pretty old at this point and probably a little dated. The course was about creating a web server with ubuntu server.

Senad Galijasevic (3 months ago)
How about this? Allow the client to access the internet and block the host from accessing the internet but allow host to access the local network? I can already do the second part where I disable the internet but allow local network access on the host by setting up static IP and leaving the gateway blank. Would it possible to do this with the second adapter?

As you know VB has changed just like Microsoft changes and rename options for what I would never know, however, is there a way to create vms, internal networks, host pc & internet access in VB 5.2.18?
Arnaldo Gonzalez (4 months ago)
Excellent tutorial! Thank you...thank you very much! In my case, I didn't have to alter my firewall settings even though they're on and on high alert. Odd, but, can't complain: if it works, it works.

Hey paul, my host is windows 10 and my guest is elcapitan. What's the preferred settings to make the network connection work? Thanks in advance!
Mark Sutfin (7 months ago)
Very nice to see this step-by-step.. I'm adding 2 linux (Ubuntu) guests to a windows 10 VirtualBox host. Completed the global tools - host only network add of network 3. Now I'm looking for the equivalent of the windows config ("Use the Following IP Address/subnet/gateway") step on Ubuntu..

Spent nearly an hour for searching and setting up my host-only network on virtual box, not knowing about windows firewall policy effects on this network adapter. Really glad that I visited this video. I am able to ssh into VM on the host-only network after 2 hrs of battle now! :)

Paul, This is like the 10th video i am watching for getting internet issue fixed. I have windows 7 as host, have vitual box on which I have Centos 7. I want to have internet on Centos 7. Don't need an internal network (don't have any other VM at the moment). Which part of your video should i follow (which settings do i need) to get internet on Centos? thanks.
David (8 months ago)
Hi Paul, I liked your video! But I had a question regarding the conection to internet. I'm using a VM with WinXp for experimental purposes and I followed the video but I was unable to do a ping to google. I tried a ping to 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.2.10 and worked, so my thought was that I'm only connected to a local network. How could I connect to internet? Regards!

How can i manage my host only networks cause my vm isn't giving me that option please help.
Thanatos Aeterna (11 months ago)
What would I do if I wanted to link a windows and a Linux VM (Specifically OpenSuse Tumbleweed) in the same manner as you did here? I tried and the only problem area is said Linux system. The host PC and windows can ping each other easy, though neither can talk to Linux and Linux can't talk to either Host PC or the Windows VM.
Instructor Paul (11 months ago)
Sounds like a firewall issue on the Linux machine! Is something like SELinux enabled (not too familiar with that flavor of linux)?
Greenberry Drive (11 months ago)
Hi Paul, I wish I had seen this video 2 days back. Would have saved me lot of stress, countless Google and YouTube searches, and many, many Virtualbox reinstalls. Really clear and concise tutorial and worked perfectly. Many Thanks for the video and keep up the excellent work.

Very Helpful....... but .............. you never show the main host computers( running virtualbox software on ) network. I could not work out why it would not change from unidentified network. I had to change the Virtualbox Host-Only adapter that gets put in the main host computers network to the same ip and subnet (only) to the same created in the host only adaptor within virtualbox software. In your case it was 192.168.2.1 and 255.255.255.0. Hope this helps someone and Thanks again for this video :) Just incase things have changed with VirtualBox from when you did to now ( could explain why you never had to change yours )

This is without a doubt an excellent video tutorial, thanks... however, have said that, this video is not listing either under your "Instructor Paul" YouTube channel (which has no search capability for some reason) or under the udemy.com full course link you provided... this is very confusing for a potential customer... just saying, thanks...

You are a life saver. I have an octopus server on my host machine and think I accidentally got networking to allow Octopus to talk to a tentacle on a Win 2016 Server on VirtualBox - this was in the morning. After I had to reboot everything stopped working and I spent the entire day scratching my head and trying to get this setup to work again. Luckily I found your video an it was a piece of cake afterward. I can't say thanks enough. Paul, Thanks. And all the best with everything in life :). You are the greatest!

need some help setting up a virtual lab on virtual box to practice for my MSCA course, can u help me?
Instructor Paul (1 year ago)
Yeah actually I have a course made for this. Here is a free enrollment to it: http://training.itflee.com/p/build-your-own-windows-server-it-lab/?product_id=308305&coupon_code=ITFOT I will also create a YouTube video on this. Thanks for the comment!
can you comment over the advance section in adapter settin? Initially i was connected to pro server and then changed to pro desktop and installed adapter in host machine using shared folder. and internet was working quite well. for the internal communication i setup vboxneto and has made the ip cnfigutration setup for tcp/ip as shown but now neither i am getting ping google.com reply in host xp machine nor ping from main machine to host machine .

Thanks!! Also thanks for commenting on my videos :)
Joe Echel (1 year ago)
Your video was great and i have a setup similar to what you showed and after following your instructions all is working just like you showed on my system. I have one question. Do you know if it is possible to access the VM's from other computers on the network. I can see all the computers and network printers on my network from the VM but cannot see either of the VM's. Don't know if this is possible but I will try anything you suggest. You created one of the best detailed videos on this procedure.
Instructor Paul (1 year ago)
Awesome! Glad you got it working Joe
Joe Echel (1 year ago)
Took a short while to play around with it after reading the info at the links you sent but I was finally able to get it working just like you said it would. Thanks for the great help.
Instructor Paul (1 year ago)
Awesome! Glad it helped. You have two options: 1) Use a bridged network adapter (http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#network_bridged) or 2) Setup port forwarding for the services you want to be accessible (http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#natforward). Most likely you want to use a bridged network adapter.
Raymond Murphy (1 year ago)
here is my issue. maybe someone can help. i set up server 2012 and windows 7; i added windows 7 to the domain. i put the adapters to internal so i avoid having a dhcp conflict between the dhcp server on server 2012 and the dhcp server on the home router. i dont actually want to implement server 2012 to my home network but i would like to be able to connect the virtual environment to the internet without a dhcp issue. the question is, is there anyway to set this up? i'm an I.T. student so this is all for practice.

Do you mean making the VMs available to other physical computers on your network? If so you want to use a bridged network adapter (http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#network_bridged).
