I talk about the REAL reason I visit African countries as much as possible. So far I've been to Ethiopia, Uganda, Morocco and Kenya. I eventually plan to visit many more African countries, I believe the next ones on my list are Tanzania, Madagascar, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and Rwanda. If i didn't mention your country DON'T be offended. I may just not know enough about it. Feel free to share some comments about it and I could add it to my list. We love you brothers am from kenya I always come across with so many white americans.i have never meet black Americans I don't know why?
American Guy Travels (14 days ago)
White Americans are significantly wealthier than Black Americans. Whites are also far more interested in animals safaris and the like than blacks will ever be. However, more black americans are visiting Africa every year. You might even see one across the street and not notice due to similar looks, this isn't the case with white Americans obviously.

American Guy Travels (1 month ago)
This is partly true. My main take away is don't judge entire countries or even worse continents by the small segment of "representatives" that they send to America. On the flipside I would tell Africans to not judge all Black Americans based on the poor, less educated Blacks that they may overwhelmingly come into contact with in the dense inner cities.

Brother, thank you for your clarification on Africans towards African-Americans. I'm African living in New York. Sometimes I feel like crying when I here this statement " Africans don't like African-Americans" because I feel so disturb and wonder where this concept come from. It reached a point where it creates an unnecessary paranoia while Africans back home dont even know much about Black Americans other than admiring them and loving them. Try to visit more countries in Africa I bet there's still more surprises you will experience. Try to visit some West African countries too like Gambia, Senegal ECT
American Guy Travels (2 months ago)
I hope we can all take small steps to bridge the gap and try to understand where both Africans and African Americans are coming from. Only then can we move forward. Thanks for watching.

American Guy Travels (2 months ago)
Some of these books are good but they are written from a European perspective, who often have different experiences. Nothing compares to hearing about travel destinations from someone of your same background.

Black British -- family Jamaican - I started going to Africa a few years back - its super addictive. heading to Kenya next month then going to drive down to Tanzania then Zambia. Africans love all black people - the idea they don't like African Americans is just myth - they will do whatever they can to stop AA and diaspora in general connecting so spread lies and myths and make hard for us to even see African counties as holiday destinations. Love the channel bro keep it up.

The opportunity is there for the taking in Africa for African Americans. You got 53 choices of countries. The land is vast, come take yours with little investment. Moreover, Africans are really loving if they meet African Americans.

I don't like go to Africa not just because I was born and raised in Sweden and whole my family live in here too. I just don't like to be judged by my own people with my lame ethnic language skill and lack of knowing of the ethnic tradition things. Specially the old generations in Africa have really serious problem to understand young generations and their modern life. For me, Africa is the world of nagging.

My beloved brother, thanks for taking the time out of your day to respond to my question with so much clarity and information. It's much appreciated. I've only been to two countries in Africa so far and out of the two I like Uganda better than Liberia. Also you mentioned Morocco, a friend of mine just moved out there. I assume it works well for him because he follows Islam. But all in all bro, thanks for the positive vibes and keep up the great work that helps our people and others also.
American Guy Travels (5 months ago)
Great question. I've only been to 4 African countries so far although I plan to see more Lord Willin'. I feel like all of them were unique and provide a different experience. Ethiopia is an extremely unique culture, they even have their own alphabet, the food and customs are unlike almost anywhere else. You have castles and sites like Lalibela that must be visited. Ugandan people are extremely polite and welcoming to outsiders. Many people go there to for the many options to see African wildlife. Kenya is the most cosmopolitan of the places I visited, lots of good food and big city comforts but also you have many safari options, etc like in Uganda plus a coast. Morocco is a part of the muslim arab world and so there are different culture rules that you have to prepare yourself for. Also black people are a minority so you never get the "Motherland" vibe that you do in the other 3 African nations I visited. The food here is exceptional though. Overall I would like to explore them all more before I could give you a favorite, but I enjoyed my time in all 4.

I don't get it. it is easy for you to go Thailand even though you don't know anybody there but you are worried about how Africans will receive you when you get there
American Guy Travels (5 months ago)
I clearly explained how I felt in the video, if you don't get it try to watch it again Thailand is a somewhat common destination for American travelers compared to Africa. I had a friend who already had connections in Thailand before I went. Thailand is one culture and country, Africa is a CONTINENT of over 50 countries with even more languages. That can be overwhelming and then you have to add the complicated history on TOP of that if you are a slave trade descendant. Where does one begin? Thanks for watching.
PurelyAfrican (5 months ago)
Intresting that there is a fellow american traveller on yt who just did a video on why he DOESN'T travel to africa! It was just the usual dusty excuses but intrestingly enough the one reason that WASN'T given was that he travels to GET AWAY FROM A HIS BLACKNESS! So it wouldn't really make sense for him to go to a continent full of bp! Lol!

So African Americans travel to Europe all the time which are heavily white populated countries, and don’t worry about how people are going to receive you, but you worried about what kind of reception you will receive from Africans in Africa seriously? Your black none in any African countries would even know your a foreigner until you speak. Black Americans are so colonised is sad. You go to the coloniser’s countries, not worried about how you will be received, and you leave Africa for last because your scared of how your going to be treated when you come and visit. The white man did a good job of brain washing you all.
American Guy Travels (6 months ago)
I don't owe you or anyone else a response to negativity. I also refuse to debate any random person in a comment section. If you or anyone else desire productive dialogue with myself, you are welcome to make a response video to this one, with whatever your feelings are. Aida Faustina (6 months ago)
MrOu83 absolutely agree with you. This man travelled to Europe not worried about what kind of reception he would receive, even tho Europeans are extremely racist, they hate black people, they have enslaved, killed and oppressed black people for hundreds of years and still do, yet he wasn’t worried about how he would be received on those European countries. Asia and South America has some of the most racist people also, Brasil for example, has almost the same problems as the US has with a majority of black population being incarcerated , unemployed and living in the favelas even tho blacks are the majority of the population yet he wasn’t worried about that. But he is over here talking about how Africans don’t like them and how worried he was about the reception he would get in Africa. GTFOH and stop making excuses for your brainwashing and retardation...
MrOu83 (6 months ago)
American Guy Travels - First, I liked much of your video and did subscribe. However, a few of your comments did raise an eyebrow. I also found it curious that you chose to visit Latin America, Asia and Europe before even considering Africa. Before reading the comments I wondered if anyone would question you about that. Thus far, I have seen two people do that. In each instance, you were dismissive, simply responding with a “Thanks for Watching.” To be fair, each of the commenters referenced either “brainwashed “ or “ colonized,” which you may have found offensive. Sadly, without talking specifically about the chronology of your travel decisions, I think the sentiments of the two commenters has merit, generally speaking. And conditioning affects blacks across the diaspora, including Africans. Ijs

Many Asians don't like Africans (or Black people) that didn't stop you from visiting Asia. If you've been to the Middle East, they hold the same views. You do have their (Ethiopian) skin complexion and hair type (soft curls), we all belong to the one African family. I am a Black Briton (Nigerian dad and a Guyanese mother. I've visited both countries). I think the key to you enjoying your stay was that you were hooked up to some knowledgeable and friendly locals. That allowed you to enjoy the place a lot more, otherwise you'd be very much isolated and detached from your environment. Great post and thanks for sharing.

American Guy Travels (6 months ago)
I don't think its a fair comparison between Asia and Africa, coming from a US perspective. There is much more "baggage" with Africa given the history which I don't want to rehash here.  I'm sure some Asians have a reputation for not liking black people (primarily Chinese and Koreans), I CHOSE not to visit those places. I visited Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines and Japan, four countries that DON'T have a reputation in America for disliking blacks. I visited Japan first, which has a positive reputation partially due to the U.S. military bases that have been there for generations, the Philippines is similar. Thailand and Cambodia had a neutral reputation, I didn't hear anything bad nor good about their treatment of blacks prior to going and I had a friend who was eager to go with me. I'm glad you found the channel. Thanks for watching.
Linda Tinah TV (7 months ago)
I'm surprised to hear that black Americans think Africans don't like them and would not treat them well if they visited. In Africa (I'm Ugandan) we really don't care. If anything we are excited to have black Americans visiting because we don't see many of them. I assume they don't travel far aa much. We see more white people exploring our land. I am glad to see these kind of videos of people sharing thier experiences.

I didn't know people in most of the countries I visited before I arrived. The distance AND cost were a big deterrent from visiting Africa initially. I don't know many 18 year olds that can afford a trip to Africa with their OWN money but I COULD literally walk to Mexico from the States with $60 bucks in my pocket. All I can say is save your pennies, and make that trip to Africa; and those who are retired join me in Ghana or any other country in Africa that has opened it's doors to the descendants of slaves, who were stolen from the Motherland. It's truly beautiful here, and they are not afraid to welcome you home with opened arms. Beware, it's a lot of whites/caucasians/europeans and Asians here, who have fled amerikkka. They didn't choose to go to Europe. Lol. I wonder, why. They love being underneath/near Blacks. But seriously, for Blacks, your vacation should be spent, in Africa, as well as your retirement years. GOD bless

I enjoyed your most and I'm new to your channel. I am now a subscriber. I wanted to start my mother land experience to Ghana however I changed my mind due to the European and the U.S. involvement in establishing a military base on it waters without the people's approval. That to me is a very big problem. It said a lot of where Ghana and the Ghanaians are headed in the future. Now I'm considering Ethiopia for the mear fact that this is the only country that has never being colonised by no one. That said it all I want to feel the spirit of the people who have never gave into european colonialism and allowing another foreign country to tell them what is good for them as a sovereign country and its people. SMH.

American Guy Travels (9 months ago)
Very well said, this my experience as well throughout most of Latin America. There is self hatred among some AfroLatinos as well which is imposed on them by the culture, but that is no different than in the US.
D Flash (9 months ago)
I agree with you..This is why I encourage us to travel more, because we are basically the only Blacks in the diaspora who have the income to travel. Blacks in Latin America are going through their own Black empowerment movement, it just we don't know it because we don't go to these places. Its really happening in northern Brazil..the Bahia area. I have traveled there and they are really heavy in African culture and now Black power. While I have been traveling, I have been taking notes..All of these countries with a large population of Black people are hungry for us to network with them, but like I said because we don't travel to these places, we just don't know. In the next year or 2 I will be transitioning to one of these countries or to Africa. I feel we have better opportunities outside of the U.S., just need to take a chance..and that doesn't mean I have to give up my U.S. citizenship..I am a Pan-African..I see us all as one..I am not going to regulate myself just to the United States..some of us need to start going to Latin American as well as Africa.
Charles Irby (9 months ago)
D Flash bro nothing against continental africans but we have a shared experience with caribbeans and afro Latinos it is imperative we start to work together. All blacks in the disapora we need to be colloborating also blacks in America stop complaining about marginalization we can make it happen anywhere. Start investing in Latin America and continental states of africa. My priority is networking with like minded caribbeans or afro latinos. We understand each other plight. Especially blacks in the United States we have more wealth than any other blacks in the world. We need to start broadening our horizons besides the United States. There is economic opportunities everywhere u see the asians and whites investing in Latin America also in continental states of africa but we too afraid to go to Africa. Reinventing yourself is a must

I 've been in America for the past 35years. I studied slave trade in high school but I guessed I thought it was long time ago so that part of history was done and over with. Until I came to America . l was shocked when I met some black people at work who used to talk down to me and I did not understand it at first. I gave them my piece of mind and we have been friends ever since. Africans do not hate black Americans, if anything, it's about trust and once we gain your trust , you are a friend for life. Africans love visiters we are so welcoming. We love strangers and like to make them feel at home. We come as strangers to American and our own are not receptive to us😰😰

Americans say it's both sides it's NOT it's just blk americans! Africans love blk americans but when they come over to america they get hostility and predjudice from bp who they have no problems with. Africans only have positive media about blk americans so this is projection from blk america because they are the ones who hate Africans- not the other way round. African people have their own lives to lead. They are sitting around hating on people they have never met!

Brigette Ervin where are u from? If u don't mind me asking. It seems u spent most of ur life in the states.
American Guy Travels (10 months ago)
Sorry to hear that you didn't receive a warm welcome by Black Americans. Just as many Africans are unaware of the slave trade in the Americas, most Black Americans are ignorant to the Scramble for Africa and rampant colonialism that went on there as well. These events don't even get a mention in American high school curriculum. This leads to a disconnect and lack of understanding on both sides. Thanks for watching. How are you perceived by the locals brotha? Do they know you're a black American automatically or do they assume your one of them before you speak?
diggiddi (1 month ago)
+Athman Juma Not necessarily true
American Guy Travels (10 months ago)
Not as much as you would think. With the globalized world we live in now people are dressing more and more similarly all over the world. We all watch the same movies and music videos. So even in a village in the Phillippines, Africa, Europe or China you will have some young people trying to dress like they are from Brooklyn or whatever. So simply dressing "American" doesn't automatically identify you like it once did. A lot of people will think you are just a local dressing in an American style.
RatedR J (10 months ago)
American Guy Travels Do you think the way you dress can have something to do with it or something?
American Guy Travels (10 months ago)
Great question! I addressed this somewhat in another video on my channel entitled "Kenya vs. Uganda". It kinda depends on which country you are in, but generally you are assumed to be a local. In Kenya though I felt like 90% of people could tell from the gate that I was NOT a local. I don't mean this in a bad way but I got a lot more curious looks there than I did in Ethiopia or Uganda. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel by subscribing bro.
Athman Juma (10 months ago)
RatedR J We first assume you are one of the locals, then when you speak it's a surprise, people never see any difference

Sounds like you had a great time in Africa. Which country did you like better Kenya or Uganda?
American Guy Travels (10 months ago)
I will do a future video where I answer that question. Stay tuned!

But what about that flight? How much bread is that?
American Guy Travels (10 months ago)
That depends. If you are coming from the East coast of the U.S. like D.C NYC or Atlanta you can come across some good deals. Typically Ghana Kenya and South Africa have a lot of connections from those cities and in the low travel season you can probably find something around the $700 range roundtrip. If you are based in Europe you can find tickets a lot cheaper of course.
benny hanna (10 months ago)
Im glad another brotha got to visit the motherland and that you are sharing that message with folks. I still haven't made it but its on the bucket list. Gotta get my money right first.
American Guy Travels (10 months ago)
Dude it's not as expensive as you think. Especially a country like Uganda. Ir's not hard to find decent hotel rooms for 25-30 dollars a night there.
