Looking for an updated version of this video? Look no further than here: https://youtu.be/VKCCM8Uvm8U The Best Deck Boxes & Vaults: http://youtu.be/14WpmcfVbFs The Best Gaming Cases: http://youtu.be/2Aw3j3Mj5Ls A Guide To Playmats: http://youtu.be/0HOjmAB4WaA What Are The Best Binders: http://youtu.be/H5IauASYWjk The Best Card Sleeves: http://youtu.be/w-aAeIZSNWw Building a sealed deck can be an exciting process, but it can also feel daunting or even overwhelming for a player new to the format. Even experienced Magic players sometimes don't know the basic process used when building a sealed deck. This video will guide you through that process and hopefully help you at future prerelease, launch, and other sealed events. However, there are some basic rules that are universal. The first is the BREAD method. While much more relevant in draft, the BREAD method is still very helpful in sealed to guide you in placing your cards in logical order. BREAD is an acronym that means BOMBS, REMOVAL, EVASION, ABILITIES, and DIRT. We've already mentioned that DIRT are the cards that are more or less unplayable. Hopefully you've already removed these cards from our piles. Bombs are your biggest threats. They are the cards where, if you opponent can not get rid of them fast, they will "go off" and win you the game. Removal is your way of dealing with your opponents threats. Removal can be counter spells, effects that return cards to your opponents hand or their deck, destroy or exile effects, ect. Removal removes the threat. Evasion refers to attackers who have some way of preventing or trying to prevent your opponents from blocking. This means flying creatures, creatures with intimidate, trample, abilities like that. Abilities means any remaining cards that don't win you the game, but do HELP you win the game. So any creatures, artifacts, etc. that have abilities other than mana abilities would be in this category as well. But let's boil all of this down to a simple rule: You want threats, and you want answers to your opponents threats. I used this guide for my first draft event, which led me to winning one of my matches! This was a great precursory tool for a new player such as myself. I thank you for making me feel comfortable with trying something I've wanted to get into for a while. I have already signed up for this FNM's draft and am very much looking forward to it.

Going to my first magic event this weekend (dominaria pre-release) and this has eased my nerves so much.
Jeff Llamas (7 months ago)
(Probably) the best sealed deck primer there is. Well-explained and simplified. I've been playing for over two decades now but still need to review every once in a while especially when attending PR events. I feel much more comfortable heading to this weekend's homecoming to Dominaria after watching this. :)

Max Gray (8 months ago)
I’m not very good at this but why is Mind Rot dirt?
OoJJBoO (8 months ago)
I'm not sure, but maybe it's to expensive for what it does? Also I think it isn't really that useful in a limited deck, since you most likely have better options to choose from. But I'm far from being an expert on this topic, so feel free to correct me ^^
TOBG Show (8 months ago)
I'm going to be re-re-rewatching this video while I prep for the Dominaria prerelease!

I left the game a few years ago. I was a casual player and only got to play a few times out of the year. I was recently asked to join a playgroup, so, I decided to play again. Since they will be playing sealed and I never played that format before, I needed this video! I knew right where to go! Even after 4 years, this video is still relevant and will help me with my Ixalan sealed deck play. Thanks Professor, and since I will playing again, I have re-subscribed to your channel!

Zachary Patterson (1 year ago)
Thank's so much for the awesome videos prof! I'm a new subscriber (and quite frankly, a new Mtg player) and I'm heading off to my first sealed game (well, second if you include pre-release). This video was certainly helpful, thanks!
Eli Nester (1 year ago)
question, and probably a stupid one: are there enough lands in a draft pool to fill the deck?, like are lands part of the draft or are basic lands supplied??

Leverquin (1 year ago)
wait so when is pre-release you get cards for free :O
FinalplayerRyu (1 year ago)
I like to go with 16-17 lands, my last two drafts were 16 lands and i placed 2nd and 3rd place. Of course i could have been lucky, but 18 lands seems overkill. Of course that all depends on how expensive your spells are and if you got other manasources besides lands.
