Lichtenstein-Style Gouache Illustration

I randomly decided to try painting in the vibrant, bold style of Roy Lichtenstein. It doesn't look nearly as intense as it felt while I was painting. Compared the typically soft, more natural approach I take to painting, this felt like I was using the paintbrush equivalent of a hammer! But ultimately I liked it enough to put on the nightstand next to my bed, so that's good! - MY WEBSITE::: https://missmarck.com/ MY COMIC::: http://dazerandeleanor.smackjeeves.com/ MY SHOP::: http://missmarck.storenvy.com/ - MUSIC Credit this piece by copying the following to your credits section: "Bass Vibes" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ "Opportunity Walks" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Tribute to Roy Lichtenstein

04:58
Roy Fox Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997) was an American pop artist. During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and James Rosenquist among others, he became a leading figure in the new art movement. His work defined the premise of pop art through parody. Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compositions that documented while they parodied, often in a tongue-in-cheek manner. His work was influenced by popular advertising and the comic book style. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting". His paintings were exhibited at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City. SOURCE: WikiArt

Pop Art is perhaps one of the most significant art movements of the twentieth century. But what makes an artwork ‘pop’? And who were the pop artists? From the scrapbooks of Eduardo Paolozzi, to Andy Warhol’s screen-prints; this film looks back at the beginnings of Pop Art, and explores its continuing legacy. ROY LICHTENSTEIN - POP ART

05:46

American Pop Art Style

20:55
http://coreybarksdale.com/african_american_art_gallery_artist.html Pop art is an art movement that emerged in Britain and the United States during the mid- to late-1950s. The movement presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects. One of its aims is to use images of popular culture in art, emphasizing the banal or kitschy elements of any culture, most often through the use of irony. It is also associated with the artists' use of mechanical means of reproduction or rendering techniques. In pop art, material is sometimes visually removed from its known context, isolated, or combined with unrelated material. Among the early artists that shaped the pop art movement were Eduardo Paolozzi and Richard Hamilton in Britain, and Larry Rivers, Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns among others in the United States. Pop art is widely interpreted as a reaction to the then-dominant ideas of abstract expressionism, as well as an expansion of those ideas. Due to its utilization of found objects and images, it is similar to Dada. Pop art and minimalism are considered to be art movements that precede postmodern art, or are some of the earliest examples of postmodern art themselves. Pop art often takes imagery that is currently in use in advertising. Product labeling and logos figure prominently in the imagery chosen by pop artists, seen in the labels of Campbell's Soup Cans, by Andy Warhol. Even the labeling on the outside of a shipping box containing food items for retail has been used as subject matter in pop art, as demonstrated by Warhol's Campbell's Tomato Juice Box, 1964.

Syd Fredette S/S 2018 : Run Lichtenstein

I began my inspiration by looking at innovative and bazar designs while trend forecasting, specifically red carpet and athletic fashion. I then looked at the most wearable fashion I could think of, athletic wear and athleisure. Looking for further inspiration I began to investigate modern art and was dramatically impacted by the work of Roy Lichtenstein, a 1960’s pop artist inspired by comic strips and tragic themes. For the silhouettes I relied heavily on layering, linear shapes, closures, and cutouts found in fashionable sneakers being produced by athletic companies like Nike, Adidas, and Reebok as well as designer brands such as Balenciaga and Christopher Kane. I have used innovative adjustments to drawstrings, cutouts using 3D printing technology and laser cutting. I am also using uncommon materials, such as perler beads and retractable name badges, to elevate the embroideries and embellishments inspired by Lichtenstein’s pop art. This collection is meant to show the symbiotic relationship between functional clothing and style and the evolving world of fashion where athletic wear is worn further than the gym. Intertwining editorial attire and athletic wear to create a cohesive high fashion collection was a challenge, especially considering the convertible nature of the garments. The goal is to create a collection that truly makes people think and wonder what high fashion truly is and what is considered wearable, functional, and elegant.

1963 7. 1962 8. I love the style of “pop art” so I decided to give it a try! Since I can’t draw, I did a graphite transfer of a picture I took of my dog Luna. Then I just kinda went for it with the paint, trying to remember what I’ve learned since working for Jerry’s. It’s not perfect but I’m proud of myself for trying and having fun with it. I’m also laughing at the fact that I unintentionally gave her lips, but hey she still looks cute! –Christina Materials Used: Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paint - https://goo.gl/SWJVwh (Titanium White, Ivory Black, Dioxazine Purple, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna & Magenta.) Roy Lichtenstein—Mexico—The Mural Tradition

55:04
Panelists include Jack Cowart, executive director, Roy Lichtenstein Foundation; Dorothy Lichtenstein, president, Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, and FAPE Board member; and Robert Storr, professor of painting and former dean, Yale School of Art, and chairman, FAPE's Professional Fine Arts Committee. Moderated by Harry Cooper, curator and head, department of modern art, National Gallery of Art. The National Gallery of Art, in collaboration with the Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies (FAPE), hosted their annual panel discussion with Jack Cowart, Dorothy Lichtenstein, and Robert Storr on April 24, 2017. The conversation, moderated by Harry Cooper, focused on the history and tradition of murals, in celebration of a major gift to FAPE of Roy Lichtenstein’s Greene Street Mural for the new US Embassy in Mexico City. During the New Deal era from 1933 to 1943, the American government administered four separate art programs that produced thousands of paintings, sculpture, and works on paper for display in federal buildings throughout the country. Thanks to Mexican muralists Jose Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, the US artistic community had already become inspired during the 1920s and 1930s by the revitalization of murals and the Italian Renaissance fresco style.

A cornerstone of the Chicago arts community, writer and philanthropist Judith Neisser devoted her life to the advancement of Contemporary Art. In her personal collection, she carefully selected innovative minimalist art works that broke the mold in order to arrive at a new methods of expression. Rare works from minimalist masters like Sol Lewitt, Robert Ryman, and Donald Judd are seamlessly juxtaposed with the Pop Art of Roy Lichtenstein and Cy Twombly’s visceral Blackboard series. In Conversation | Nicolas Moufarrege: Recognize My Sign

41:17
On View: November 10–February 17, 2018 Nicolas Moufarrege: Recognize My Sign—the artist’s first solo museum exhibition—traces the development of his work from the lap-scaled portrait-tapestries he produced in Beirut, Lebanon in the early-1970s to the final works he created in New York City, New York in 1985. A dedicated appropriator, Moufarrege culled images from a broad and vast sourcebook; his embroidered paintings mix references from Classical sculptures and Baroque paintings with comic book heroes, Islamic tilework designs, Pop Art, and Arabic calligraphy. He borrowed images from paintings and prints by artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, and especially Roy Lichtenstein. If appropriation provided the artist with raw subject matter, it is his pointed juxtapositions of images that most clearly reveal Moufarrege’s wit and thoughtful intelligence: his stitched paintings tell stories. This exhibition is organized by CAMH Curator Dean Daderko. ©Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, 2018.
Conserving Whaam! | Tate

06:57
Roy Lichtenstein's Whaam! is one of the most popular works in Tate's collection and has been on almost constant display since it was acquired in 1966. The materials used to create the painting are challenging for conservators, as they don't react well to traditional cleaning methods. Our conservation team have spent months trialling and evaluating different techniques for treating the work. At last, a ground-breaking gel treatment broadly based on nanotechnology has allowed us to clean the work in a safe and controlled way, for the very first time in the painting's history. The treatment has been made possible thanks to a new gel created by CSGI Florence. The NANORESTART project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 646063. Tuesday Evenings at the Modern - Michael Lobel

01:17:19
Soon after Roy Lichtenstein’s Pop paintings exploded on the art scene in the 1960s, observers grew curious about the popular roots of his work. Critics, curators, and scholars began to trace his borrowed imagery back to the comic books, newspapers, and other commercial printed media from which it came. Michael Lobel Michael Lobel, Professor of Art History at Hunter College, City University of New York, curator, and author, presents his findings on one of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth’s most popular paintings. Mr. Bellamy, by Roy Lichtenstein, was painted in 1961 in the artist’s signature style of using Ben-Day dots and text balloons to mimic comic books of the day. With occasional insider art-world references accompanying the popular imagery, Lichtenstein’s paintings can be both familiar and enigmatic. This is particularly true of the Modern’s painting. As Lobel states, “While the reference images for most of Lichtenstein’s signature Pop paintings are now known, the source for Mr. Bellamy, an important early canvas in the collection of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, has long gone unidentified.” In this Tuesday Evenings presentation, “Pop and Its Sources: Reconsidering Roy Lichtenstein’s Mr. Bellamy,” Lobel highlights a new discovery—the original comic strip on which the painting was based—and explores its implications for our understanding of the artist’s work.

Pop Art Van

The Bad Taste Tales Ebook ....... https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/496104 ... This pop art horror van is a collection of objects, stickers and murals all designed to create the ultimate pop art horror van! It's taken a couple of years and before the paint weathers away I wanted to get something on video to share. Problem with painting on the windows is the rain washes the paint away quite often. I seem to do more maintenance painting than mechanical repairs. It's all good though, I hope perhaps you get inspired to create your own pop art horror van,. It's always a laugh when in traffic and you see someone taking a photo, cheers.

What is Dada? How does it relate to Jean (Hans) Arp and his anti-war movement?

07:35
Gallery Educator Kristen Cochran explores how Dada artist Jean (Hans) Arp responded to World War I and how his artwork embodies a spirit which embraces irrationality, nonsense, collaboration, chance and play. Cochran focuses on Arp's relief, Plant-Hammer (Terrestrial Forms), 1916 constructed out of wood and screws then painted to play with perception. Some of the painted shapes are on the same plane; while others are physically separate from one another. The individual pieces are cut not by Arp but in collaboration with a carpenter which at the time is a new way of producing art. Collaboration pushes back against an artist's ego and incorporates some level of chance and lessening control. Arp uses screws instead of glue to keep the relief mutable. The parts have potential for change something which is against the conventional ideas of art as fixed, determined and solely attributed to one artist-author. Plant-Hammer is neither painting nor sculpture. It is both. Arp refused to fit it into one category, perhaps more common now though progressive and daring at that time. Do you think Arp succeeded in making a work that was revolutionary for his time? This Live Look originally aired on Facebook November 6, 2018 during The Nature of Arp exhibition at the Nasher Sculpture Center. (https://nashersc.org/nature-arp-plant-hammer)
