http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - Alexander McQueen's 2012 Women's Autumn Winter Collection Beautiful future. The soft bed of the forest floor by day and night. The domed caps and rippling underbellies of mushrooms and other fungi. Light and shade, power and protection, hyper-femininity and strength. The silhouette becomes increasingly three-dimensional and overblown as the collection progresses. Shape, texture, print and embellishment explode, initially from the waist and finally from the neck down. Feathers, furs and silver dandelion and enamel blossom embroideries float on textured surfaces. Funnel necks, Mongolian lamb collars, trapeze lines, cape-backs and bell-shaped, rolled skirts dominate. Pale silk and mohair jacquards appliquéd with felt flowers give way to black and white laser-cut pony-skin over leather and hand-massaged printed, degradé silks and ruffled organzas. Hammered metal harnessing introduces a hard edge. Mink and leather ankle boots are finished with curved metal 'horse shoes'.

Jaws dropped on a global scale when supermodel Kate Moss was projected on the catwalk during a live fashion show from Alexande McQueen. The music, atmosphere and creepy looking dress still make it standout as one of the most impressive holographic illusions seen to date.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - Alexander McQueen's 2013 Women's Spring Summer Collection "The collection is a study of femininity. We looked at erotica. Vargas girls, cages, corsets and crinolines and the idealisation of the female form. Nothing is set in a particular period. It's about sensuality and skin but not nudity. We also wanted to express lightness, for the clothes almost to hover over the women who wear them." Sarah Burton This season sees the return of a heritage silhouette. Wasp waists and a constructed hip exaggerate a feminine silhouette. Signature tailored jackets are layered over jewelled, moulded resin bustier tops and sheer, mid-calf length honeycomb pencil skirts, or cropped panelled trousers. A play between covering the body and discreetly exposing it is seen throughout as the transparent is juxtaposed with the opaque and garments peel away from necklines and shoulders. Lightness is paramount: intricately woven jacquards, lacquered lace and laser cut patent leather hover over silk organza. Cages, corsets and crinolines in various incarnations are worn as underpinnings or as finished, elaborately embellished pieces in their own right. Every aspect of the foundation garment and the transformation of the body that is a hallmark of the house of Alexander McQueen is explored. Runway backdrop film by John Maybury

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'The Horn of Plenty' Alexander McQueen's 2009 Autumn Winter Collection Subtitled 'Everything But The Kitchen Sink', the concept here is a play between a profound respect for and the subversion of the haute couture tradition. The set features a pile of debris - everything from rubbish bags and crushed car parts to broken fairground horses and castaway chairs - much of it recycled props from past McQueen shows. The clothes themselves draw on haute couture signatures - Dior's iconic hounds tooth check, the elegance of Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy - and takes them apart at the seams. Aforementioned check breaks away into a magpie print inspired by M.C. Escher, or is scarred with vinyl reminiscent of the splatter paintings of Jackson Pollock. Gowns are crafted in what looks like bin-liners or broken records but are in fact highly expensive paper nylon and lacquered silk respectively. Hats echo the ordurous theme - washing machine hoses, umbrellas, lampshades and more are transformed into objects of beauty. McQueen's models stand taller and prouder than ever in hugely elevated footwear. All in all, this is power-dressing at its most elaborate and extreme.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'It's Only a Game' Alexander McQueen's 2005 Womens Spring Summer Collection Using a futuristic chess game as mise en scene, McQueen this time offers up an intricately worked and determinedly youthful collection featuring pieces that whisper of fashion fantasy although always with a typically tough edge. And so a floral print, primrose yellow baby doll dress is finished with signature leather harnessing, for example, amply demonstrating the play between power and vulnerability that the designer has by now made his own. The starting point is filmic again. This time clothes are inspired by Picnic At Hanging Rock - quintessential McQueen territory given its ultra-feminine and innocent spirit undermined by a significantly dark undercurrent. Everything from Edwardian children's wear to embroidered fairground horses makes an appearance. The chessboard motif allows the designer to explore different types of women -- Americans face Japanese on the board, redheads are placed opposite Latin Americans and so forth.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'Scanners' Alexander McQueen's Autumn Winter 2003 Collection In this instance, the most barren of sets -- an ice and rubble-strewn wasteland as seen from above -- only serves to emphasise the opulence and strength of the clothes. These mix tradition with modernity - from fourteenth and fifteenth century samurai armour to Manga cartoons -- as McQueen's displaced travellers journey from Siberia over the Russian tundra, through Tibet before finally reaching the land of the rising sun. If the backdrop serves as a reflection of the instability of our times, the clothes are the ultimate modern-day armour. Over-sized hooded fur-trimmed jackets belted tightly at the waist and worn with voluminous skirts, an A-line metal slatted skirt teamed with 1950s cut wool jacket and black bandage dresses finished with gleaming gold zips. High above the audience a model walks through a wind-tunnel in a white embroidered kimono with a huge, billowing train.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' Alexander McQueen's 2005 Women's Autumn Winter Collection For the second time in his career, Alexander McQueen references 'The Birds' for this collection a film that he remembers loving as a child principally because of the precise way in which the women featured choose to dress. Against a film-set backdrop flooded with red light models stride out in swing coats, pencil skirts, neat, cropped trousers and fitted chunky mohair all of which suit a modern-day Hitchcock heroine down to the ground. Given the source of inspiration this may be read as McQueen's interpretation of co-ordinated dressing almost vintage Hermes style -- crocodile sling-backs are teamed with matching handbags, for example. Hair is big, bouffant and blow dried and lips are painted true red.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'La Dame Bleue' Alexander McQueen's 2008 Womens Spring Summer Collection Inspired by extreme glamour as embodied in particular by Isabella Blow, La Dame Bleue focuses on all the McQueen signatures including authentically created strong-shouldered Savile Row tailoring -- each piece is canvas mounted and hand-toiled -- closely fitted cocktail dresses with an exaggerated hip-line, their waists cinched with wide belts, sleek black skirt suits in precious reptile skin, flashes of exotic colour and embellished silk chiffon and organza gowns. The set, on this occasion, is a large, metal, light-encrusted structure based on a pair of out-stretched wings and this theme is echoed in the clothes in the form of Bird of Paradise and butterfly wing prints and flamingo feathered bodices.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - Alexander McQueen's 2011 Womens Spring Summer Collection The collection is both bohemian and pagan in spirit. A controlled and technologically advanced environment is rejected in favor of the raw power of nature and a free spirit. The values of hard craftsmanship and the precious quality of found objects are upheld. Construction is light, pieces are intricately worked by hand. Patchwork embroidery, plaited hair, ribbon work, tooled leather, frayed raffia, hand pleated organza, embroidered white work, hand painted feather butterflies, gold bullion, corn dollies, twisted feathers, crochet, hand carved shoes lacquered with a porcelain effect. Each piece highlights the value of handcraft. The silhouette is predominantly soft and slender. Construction is light becoming increasingly elliptical as nature takes its course. Fabric appears almost to fall away from garments, disintegrating to reveal the body beneath. Jackets and tailcoats are cropped and narrow, worn with a low-rise trouser that finishes above the ankle. Gowns are ethereal, in ultra light silks, cotton voiles, chiffons, fille coupe and cotton organdie. An exaggerated hip idealizes the feminine form.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'Irene' Alexander McQueen's Women's Spring Summer Collection Alexander McQueen's position as an international designer gathers momentum with this fragile and feminine collection inspired by the journey of a woman, ship-wrecked on an island where she evolves from pirate to conquistador and finally Amazonian goddess. Micro-mini chestnut leather skirts and nipped-waist jackets are worn with torn and tattered organdy, delicate shredded chiffon and lace is transformed into everything from feather-light day dresses to bias-cut floor-sweeping gowns and exotic prints come in all the dazzling colours of the rainforest. The film that serves as a backdrop features watery depths inhabited by drowning damsels and woodland scenes peopled by black-eyed sprites courtesy of director John Maybury.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'The Girl Who lIved in a Tree' Alexander McQueen's 2008 Autumn Winter Collection Based on the British Empire, the Queens of England, the Duke of Wellington, toy soldiers and punk princesses, this fashion fairy tale is dominated by an ancient tulle-wrapped tree referencing the work of the artist, Christo. For the first half of the show our heroine is dressed in beautiful rags: nipped waisted jackets, Victorian-line dresses with S-bend corseted tops, textured, hand-knitted mohair and washed tweeds all in dark or neutral colours lend a make-do-and-mend feel to the proceedings. It isn't long, though, before our Princess meets her Prince Charming, at which point she descends from her treetop habitat and finds all the riches of the world at her disposal. Her clothing duly explodes into colour and references everything from the wardrobe of the young Princess Elizabeth --crimson velvet New Look dresses, ermine wraps and a bastardised Union Jack print - to the palaces of the Maharajas -- a draped, predominantly empire-line silhouette finished with paper-flat embroidered slippers, each pair bespoke and created to complement its own outfit.

Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2008 collection, "La Dame Bleue," was a tribute to the late Isabella Blow, who passed away in May of 2007 after consuming a fatal dose of the weedkiller Paraquat. Blow's extreme sense of glamour and personal style were both inspirational and highly influential on Mr. McQueen's own aesthetic. (Video source: http://www.alexandermcqueen.com/)

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'Natural Dis-tinction Un-Natural Selection' Alexander McQueen's 2009 Womens Spring Summer Collection This collection is inspired by Charles Darwin and 'The Origin of the Species' - by evolution both in a conceptual and technical sense. Antique taxidermy, fiery golden sun and a cool silver moon form the backdrop to the show which features everything from engineered prints inspired by the earth's raw materials - wood-grain, granite, crystal - to more exploring the dawn of the industrial age - coiled metal and the Eiffel Tower. Bucolic embroideries, soft colours and natural fabrics give way to "specimen jar" dresses where enamelled flowers in more virulent shades are trapped in tulle and a diamond print which morphs into a human skeleton. The natural versus the technological or super-natural, perhaps.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - Alexander McQueen's 2005 Mens Spring Summer Collection Here McQueen evokes the romance of the crop-haired soldier in a collection infused with sweet nostalgia but highly contemporary nonetheless. Clothing is for the most part relaxed, utilitarian and roomy but, never afraid to explore the feminine side of his men, this is played off against henna tattooed and/or mirrored body stockings that speak of faraway places and exotic climes. Patchwork camoflage shorts, roomy trouser suits and a colour palette mainly restricted to dusty shades of sand and green are equally lifted by shots of acid yellow or brightest pink.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'Pantheon As Lecum' Alexander McQueen's 2004 Womens Autumn Winter Collection The pale faces and fluffy baby hair ringlets of McQueen's models this season speak of vulnerability as always but also of the hope and optimism of extreme, yet to be fully formed youth. The designer's clothes aim to enfold the body, they are extremely subtle and the dialogue between garment and wearer is an intimate one. This is an otherworldly vision certainly but also a quieter one than might be expected from a designer famed for anything but that. Each piece has been worked on painstakingly -- there's not a fibre out of place. Clothing is clean but the detail absolute. A respect for tradition is here, as always, very much in evidence -- the use of heavy tweeds and cashmeres in particular -- but so too is a love of nature in the form of a preternaturally lovely orchid print used in a highly disciplined and sparing way.

But old and ancient cultures also knew a world of change, and their ghosts and skeletons haunt us to this day. For Autumn/Winter 2010, Alexander McQueen's collection evokes the culture of explorers and sea faring peoples, whose lives and attire are about protection and survival in extreme conditions, and whose legacy pokes through the melting snow and ice like ancient artefacts and bones.

Body-skimming jersey cutaway to mimic harnessing is paired with sharp, low-slung tailoring, crisp white shirts are layered with laced corsetry in traditional Savile Row fabrics. Jewel encrusted epaulettes, polka dots, ruffled, tiered skirts and more crafted out of what look like Spanish fans are all executed with the complexity of pattern and attention to detail the designer is known for.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'Supercalifarilistic' Alexander McQueen's Autumn Winter 2002 Collection A magical fairytale seam runs through this collection shown in the Conciergerie in Paris famously the place where Marie Antoinette spent her last days. White wolves stalk the upper stories as highwaymen and princesses rub shoulders with a subversion of school uniform and educational authority. Ultra feminine mousseline princess dresses are toughened by leather harnessing, fragile lingerie-inspired looks are finished with more SM leather detailing, caped backs and kimono sleeves add drama to tailored all in ones. Skinny striped blazers and gym skirts are only part of this story for which McQueen also brought back his signature bumster, best in gleaming silver leather.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'The McQueensbury Rules' Alexander McQueen's 2009 Mens Autumn Winter Collection The title is a fusion of McQueen's own name and that of the nineteenth century boxer famed for a sense of fair play and his establishing of the Queensbury rules. It's small wonder with this in mind that this is amongst McQueen's most unashamedly masculine vision to date. Dark-eyed models with gleaming canes are tough almost to the point of menacing and clothes are highly luxurious though never even remotely dandyish or fey. Once again, tailoring in traditional menswear fabrics is the focus of the collection. Coats, too, feature prominently and are as big, bad and broody as it is possible to imagine.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - Alexander McQueen's 2011 Men's Autumn Winter Collection Uniform and regimental, military dress and Savile Row. The collection takes the quintessentially English heritage of the house of Alexander McQueen. The silhouette is strict, sharp and clean. An emphasis on outerwear can be seen as great coats, peacoats, shearling bomber jackets and capes are worn layered over tailoring crafted in traditional men's wear fabrics. A discreet play on mis-matching suggests the hint of eccentricity that is the hallmark of British style.

Every model cast is 5'11" or over and the emphasis is on extreme glamour and gloss, on clothing as the ultimate metropolitan armour. Body-conscious black tailoring features ultra-short skirts, legs long and lean as a fashion illustration and acres of cleavage, Lurex and leather fitted like a second skin, visible underwear worn with sheer body-stockings and, of course, the requisite killer heels are all aimed at an unswervingly confident woman who wears power with pride.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN Spring Summer 2013 Paris - Fashion Channel A spectacular fashion show for McQueen, where Sarah Burton is inspired by an excellent feminine symbol: the Queen Bee, to create a masterfully executed collection with a subtly ironic and sexy meaning. The frenetic and industrious activity of the beehive, the sweet temptation of honey, the inviting seduction of the flowers: all this speaks of a sweet yet domineering femininity, expressed in pin-up dresses that enhance the erotic signs of attraction: bust, waist, hips. The exceptional talent, Sarah Burton, condenses from the heritage of Lee McQueen the code of a stylistic language that is also totally her own and that expresses a natural kinship and continuity of the vision, joined by a boldly personal interpretation. SEE MORE: http://www.fashiontv.com/FashionWeek http://www.FashionTV.com/videos PARIS - Sarah Burton's theme for the Spring 2013 Alexander McQueen collection during Paris Fashion Week was bees. When one thinks of bees, they think of yellow and black stripes and more of the typical--but this is Sarah Burton and she has proven that her undertaking of the McQueen brand after his untimely demise has been anything but typical. That means using other ideas related to bees--particularly the idea of honey comb as a textured part of the fabric and dresses that looked like tiered bees nests. And those hard to miss beekeeper veils as headwear, which has become somewhat of a Sarah Burton/McQueen speciality. Publications also reported on the use sexual overtones--or shall we say, undertones in this instance, as the references weren't overt. For the first time, though, Burton seemed to have tied the entire collection together in a way that speaks more to the line as a whole and less to each piece separately as in seasons past. Perhaps this is the biggest buzz of all. http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - Alexander McQueen's 2005 Mens Autumn Winter Collection This collection is inspired by gang culture from the sixteenth century to the 1990s and as portrayed specifically in two films: Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haine and Patrice Chereau's La Reine Margot. With their hair slicked back West Side Story style and wearing everything from hooded leather jackets liberally embellished with zips or more referencing the terraces -- an exploded football motif -- not to mention bandanas and wide-legged low-slung trousers this rings out loud and clear. More surprising though is the sheer luxe factor of the collection -- gilt overlay, fur trim and immaculate tailoring with a silver-grey sheen all point to only the most upscale of hardmen. Again fluidity of gender is all present and correct: a tulle vest encrusted with jet is worn with loose leather trousers, a toile de jouy shirt with a trench coat and more.

http://www.alexandermcqueen.com - 'The Widows of Culloden' Alexander McQueen's 2006 Autumn Winter Collection With this collection McQueen revisits the subject matter of The Highland Rape -- the show with which he made his name -- but applies to similar territory a sophistication and expertise that reflects his experience as both couturier and designer. The inspiration here is highly personal -- the designer's own heritage -- which goes at least some way towards explaining the exquisite hand-craftsmanship that goes into each piece as well, of course, as bird head-dresses and McQueen tartan. The collection is luxurious and romantic but melancholic and even austere at the same time. The silhouette -- all nipped waists, bustles and exaggerated hip lines -- is designed to exaggerate a woman's form and each piece is unique, a one-off couture creation with emotional content intended to be handed down from generation to generation like the most precious of heirlooms.
