Hey Live Leaners, On today's episode of Live Lean TV, I wanted to cover a fun topic...CHEAT MEAL RULES! First...Lets be real. I don't care how focused you are with your fitness goals...everyone needs to have a little fun. If you're following a long-term low carb nutrition plan (in a calorie deficit) that gives you NO lenience to have the occasional cheat meal, you are preparing yourself for failure. Typically people don't last anymore than 12 weeks on a strict, zero-cheat policy. And when they do quit, they go back to their old ways and fatten up even quicker. When it comes to living lean, it's all about implementing healthy lifestyle habits that are SUSTAINABLE and MAINTAINABLE over the long-term. This includes having the ability to eat a cheat meal to "re-carb up" once in a while. If you're consistently in a calorie deficit... ...a cheat meal can actually help re-ignite your thyroid and leptin hormones to increase your metabolism and burn even more fat. I typically do 1 cheat meal for every 30 healthy meals. For example, if you're eating 5 healthy meals a day, by following this 30 to ratio, you could have a cheat meal once every 6 days. BUT.... I'm not allowing you to just eat whatever they want, whenever they want. Vegetables that can KILL your belly fat? Every time I ask people what body part they want to improve...it's always their abs...or in other words, they want to lose belly fat. Well guess what... If I haven't already given you enough health incentives to eat your veggies maybe this tip will finally give you that kick in the booty. Eating certain types of vegetables can actually help kill your belly fat. Do I have your attention now?? A while back, I filmed a Live Lean TV episode about the estrogenic chemicals found in our food supply and environment that can make you store belly. These chemicals include pesticides, herbicides, and petrochemicals. They're now found in our food, our water, the air, and everyday products we use. These chemicals are called xenoestrogens and are found in household cleaners, cosmetics, and plastics. We're exposed to these chemicals everyday. Exposure can cause an estrogenic effect on your body which causes a hormonal imbalance for both males and females, thus making you store belly fat. HOWEVER...Enter the Belly Fat Killing Super Vegetables!! Certain types of vegetables contain specific phytonutrients (I3C) that helps STOP these estrogenic belly fat stimulating compounds. How Many Calories Should I Eat To Lose 5 Pounds in 30 Days #LLTV

Hey Live Leaners, In today's Live Lean TV video, I want to get back to the fundamentals and answer one of the most important questions regarding weight loss (or gain - yes some people need to gain weight)... How many calories should I be eating in a day? This truly is one of the key starting questions to answer on your weight loss/gain journey. Now...before moving on...I need to make this clear....I do not count calories. WHAT!?! Does this mean you shouldn't count calories? As anything in fitness and nutrition...IT DEPENDS. If you... a) understand the value of a calorie and it's macronutrient make up (protein, carbs, fat) just by looking at a food... b) follow a solid workout plan... *cough* Live Lean Afterburn *cough*... c) consume only whole natural food (not products) provided by the earth... I'd say you don't need to worry about calories. But lets be honest...maybe 5% of the population meets all 3 of these, and if you did, I'm sure you wouldn't be watching a video on it. So with that said, if you're serious about losing or gaining weight, it's critical that you know your calorie numbers and measure them. Remember... The things that get measured are the things that get done. There are many different ways to calculate your calorie requirements but one of the most used and standard methods is calculating your BMR (basal metabolic rate) & your Activity Factor (Harris-Benedict). Is canola oil bad for you? What’s healthy for food marketers is their profit and bottom line. What’s healthy for you is often the opposite of this. One of the biggest nutrition mistakes people make is blindly listening to what food marketers tell you is healthy. Canola oil nutrition information: Serving Size: 1 tbsp Calories: 120 Protein: 0g Carbohydrates: 0g Fat: 14g (1g of saturated fat, 3.6g polyunsaturated fat, 8g monounsaturated fat) Even though canola oil contains heart healthy monounsaturated fats, the issue with canola oil is the polyunsaturated fat and the refining process to extract the oil. This heating, refining, and chemicals used to extract the oil creates free radicals and inflammation in the body, which eventually may lead to disease. Sure, some polyunsaturated fats can be healthy, but another issue with canola oil is the unbalanced ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids. Is extra virgin olive oil good for cooking? Nutrition info: Serving Size: 1 tbsp Calories: 120 Protein: 0g Carbohydrates: 0g Fat: 14g (1.9g of saturated fat, 1.4g polyunsaturated fat, 10g monounsaturated fat) The healthiest way to consume extra virgin olive oil is in it’s raw form, at room temperature, not when cooking food over high heat. For example, if you’re cooking food in a frying pan, like a stir fry, there are better cooking oil options, with a higher smoke point, like avocado oil. Extra virgin olive oil smoke point Depending on the quality, extra virgin olive oil has a smoke point of approximately 375F-405F. The smoke point simply means the temperature at which the cooking oil starts to break down and smoke, thus becoming less healthy for you. The process of cooking extra virgin olive oil over high heat can negatively deteriorate the healthy fatty acids, and may make them oxidative in the body. With all that said, extra virgin olive oil is going back in your kitchen, but consume it at room temperature, not as your preferred cooking oil. Coconut oil Coconut oil nutrition information: Serving Size: 1 tbsp Calories: 120 Protein: 0g Carbohydrates: 0g Fat: 14g (12g of saturated fat, 0.2g polyunsaturated fat, 0.8g monounsaturated fat) The type of saturated fat in coconut oil is called a medium chained triglyceride (MCT) fat. MCT fats are a special type of fat that are used by the body for energy, meaning it’s not stored as body fat, nor is it linked to heart disease. Coconut oil also contains lauric acid which is excellent in helping improve your immune system. Avocado oil is an excellent cooking oil to use when cooking over high heat I now recommend people stick to a healthy cooking oil with a higher smoke point like avocado oil. Avocado oil has a smoke point of approximately 520F. Lemon Water is Alkalizing: the body functions best in a more alkaline state as cancer cells tend to breed in an acidic body. Unfortunately due to the foods most people eat, the chemicals they expose their skin to, and the environment they live in, most people’s body’s are very acidic. Even though lemons are actually an acidic fruit, when digested, lemons become very alkalizing to the body and blood. 3. If you haven’t heard of tabata workouts yet, you’ve been missing out. This 4 minute fat burning HIIT workout is named after a Japanese researcher named, Dr. Izumi Tabata. Tabata workouts are quick, but intense, workouts that not only burn fat faster, but they also can help build lean muscle and increase VO2 max, cardiovascular strength. These 4 minute tabata workouts are structured as follows: - 20 seconds of high intensity work - 10 seconds rest The key is to go all out during the 20 second high intensity set to really elevate your heart rate and feel the burn. After the 10 second rest, you’ll jump right back into another HIIT interval, then you’ll repeat for a total of 8 sets. Lets do this! 4 Minutes: Fat Burning Tabata Workout [HIIT For Fat Loss] Total time: 4 minutes Sets: 8 Rounds: 2 Work time: 20 sec (as many reps as possible with good form) Rest time: 10 sec Exercises: A1. Jump Lunge x 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds A2. Jump Squat x 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds A3. Burpee x 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds A4. Push Up x 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds For example: complete 20 seconds of jump lunges, rest 10 seconds, 20 seconds of jump squats, rest 10 seconds, etc. until all 4 minutes are up. Remember: the goal of the tabata workout is to do as many reps at a high intensity, with proper form, as possible in the 20 second work period. Also, only rest for 10 seconds between tabata exercises. After you finish the first round, repeat the A1-A4 exercises 1 more time, for a total of 4 minutes. That’s it. In just 4 minutes, you’ll be sweating, incinerating fat, increasing heart health, and getting stronger. Make sure you keep the momentum going and finish strong! Plus, you’re not just burning calories DURING these 4 minutes. These fat burning tabata workouts will help spike your metabolism to burn calories at a higher rate, for the remainder of the day. This is called the Afterburn effect. That’s what makes these HIIT tabata workouts such a great fat burning workout. When should you do 4 minute tabata workouts? You can do these 4 minute tabata workouts first thing in the morning when you get up, as it’s a great way to kickstart your day. Or you can use it as a 4 minute workout finisher after your resistance training workout, to really spike your metabolism. I’ll be back with more 4 minute tabata workout videos, so try to incorporate them into your daily routine, and watch your fat burn off! How do you measure progress with a tabata workout? Record the lowest amount of reps completed in any set. During your next tabata workout, try to beat that rep count, while still focusing on proper form. Even though our bodies are made up of approximately 70% water, a lot of us still do not drink enough water. Drinking more water will give you more energy, as it is very hydrating, and will help you perform better with your workouts. So many people struggle with low energy levels because they are depleted of water. By drinking more water, you're going to feel great. Also, when you feel like you may be hungry, a lot of the times, you may just be dehydrated. So drink a big glass of water to help fill you up before raiding the kitchen. If you have a bad day of eating unhealthy food or drinking too much alcohol, drinking water can help speed up your recovery, and help cleanse and detox your body, to get rid of the chemicals faster. How Much Water Should I Drink Per Day To Lose Weight Fast? The simple formula to calculate how much water you should drink per day to lose weight fast is: - Take your bodyweight in pounds - Divide that number in half That number is how many ounces of water you should be drinking per day to lose weight fast Water calculation examples: Let's say you're 200 pounds: Divide 200 in half. 200 pounds/2 = 100 oz of water At the minimum, you would need to drink 100 oz of water per day to lose weight fast. For faster weight loss, aim to hit or come close to drinking this amount of water every day. What are the easiest ways to drink more water? Now that you know how much water you should drink per day to lose weight fast, the next question is, what are some easy ways to drink more water. One thing I always do is keep a stainless steel or BPA free water bottle close by. A BPA free water bottle simply means there are no BPA chemicals in the plastic water bottle. This is important, as regular plastic water bottles can leek unhealthy xenoestrogen BPA chemicals into the water. I typically drink out of a stainless steel water bottle, but if I need to buy water from a plastic bottle, I always feel more comfortable drinking out of BPA free plastic water bottle. Keep your water bottle filled with water at your office desk and have it close by with you at home. When it's close by, you'll always remember to keep drinking from it. Then when it's empty, immediately fill it back up. And yes, you're going to go to the bathroom a lot more, but you're going to feel great, because you're getting rid of junk out of your body. Also, if you still forget to drink water, set a reminder in your smartphone. Set an alarm every hour, to remind you to go refill your water bottle or to take a big drink of water. If you're drinking green tea, you're also increasing your water consumption. You can also increase your water consumption by eating water rich foods like fruits and vegetables. Most importantly, water will help you lose weight faster. If you're going to focus on just one thing this week to improve your health, just focus on drinking more water throughout the day. Are you Squatting Wrong? Squat form is very important to getting the best possible results out of your training program. Today I'm showing you some tips and tricks on how to improve your Squat Form. Squats are SO important, not just for your Butt and Legs but also for your Metabolism -- which in turn leads to getting Leaner all over! Here are some of the mistakes commonly seen with Squats: First mistake, Wrong Knee and Foot Position Second mistake, Forgetting to use all the Variety of Squats, use lots of squat types to keep your muscles guessing Third mistake, Going too low and causing a "duck tail" effect on your lower back, this puts dangerous and unnecessary strain on the back and knees Fourth mistake, Using the Wrong Weight.. too light, you won't break through strength and shape plateaus, and too heavy you may hurt yourself Fifth mistake, Not going low enough and therefore not getting enough of a stretch in the glute to really work the muscle Tips for your perfect squat: Set you feet and knees right, Go low enough but not too low, Use a variety of squat types, and challenge yourself by increasing weight over time. That's right, we are strengthening our core with this routine as it's comprised of all plank exercise variations. All you need for this 4 minute tabata workout is your bodyweight and your tabata interval timer. Even though the entire plank tabata workout will only take 4 minutes, you're going to feel the sweat and the pain, but you're going to get abs of steel. 4 Minute Plank Tabata Workout For Beginners Total time: 4 minutes. Type of workout: Tabata workout: 20 seconds of work 10 seconds rest After the 20 second work interval, take a 10 second rest, then complete another 20 second work interval, etc. Number of circuits: 2 circuits. Exercises: A1. Forearm Plank (i.e. Standard Plank) Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: Make sure your elbow joints are below your shoulders, keep your spine in a neutral position, with your back nice and flat. When you're working your core, ensure you're keeping your abs as tight as possible. Always think about the muscle that you are working, while maintaining a steady breath. A2. Forearm Side Plank (right side) Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: The forearm side plank really hits the side obliques. If these exercises are too difficult for you, you can complete the beginner variation of these plank exercises. For example, the beginner modification for the forearm side plank would be the forearm side plank from your knees. But always try to challenge yourself with the more challenging plank variation. A3. Forearm Side Plank (left side) Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: This time plank your opposite forearm into the floor as you target the other side of your obliques. To make the forearm side plank more advanced, raise your top leg and arm. This is called the forearm side plank leg raise. A4. Straight Arm Plank (i.e. Plank on your Hands) Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: The fourth and final exercise is the straight arm plank where you complete the plank on your hands. Make sure you keep your hips up and in alignment with your back flat. Don't let your hips sag as it will put too much pressure on your lower back. Keep your entire body straight, with every muscle tight and engaged. That’s the first round of this 4 minute plank tabata workout for beginners Rest 10 seconds, then complete the second circuit of exercises A1-A4 again. This "Plank You For The Abs of Steel" tabata workout is going to help strengthen your core and flatten your stomach. Complete this 4 minute plank tabata workout when you wake up in the morning and/or as a workout finisher, at the end of your strength training workout. Lifting weights will really help you accelerate your fat loss, as it's going to help you build muscle, which is going to then increase your metabolism, to burn fat more efficiently throughout the day and night. This is key, along with a healthy diet. Are you ready to get sweaty? Since this is a jumping plyometrics workout, if you have previous issues with bad joints, make sure you’re wearing a high quality pair of sneakers, that provides good support and cushion for your joints. 4 Minute Tabata Plyometrics Workout For Beginners: Here’s how the no equipment tabata workout for beginners is structured: Total time: 4 minutes. Type of workout: Tabata workout - 20 seconds of high intensity work (as many reps as possible with good form) - 10 seconds rest The key is to give maximum effort during the 20 second high intensity interval. After the 20 second high intensity interval, take a 10 second rest, then complete another 20 second high intensity interval, etc. With that said, lets start this 4 minute tabata plyometrics workout. Number of circuits: 2 circuits. Exercises: A1. High Knee Sprints Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: first exercise is high knee sprints. If this is too difficult for you, simply bring each knee nice and high as you walk in place for the 20 seconds. Feels so good! A2. Front To Back Hops Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: For this plyometric exercise, hop forward then hop back to the starting position. If this exercise is too difficult, simply walk on step forward, then one step back. Make sure you’re breathing throughout the 20 seconds. A3. Jump Squat Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: To complete the jump squat, simply squat down, then explode up by jump into the air. If that is too difficult, modify this by performing a speed squat, where you simply squat down, then stand back up without jumping. A4. Speed Skater Reps: 20 seconds Rest: 10 seconds Coaching cues: This is an excellent plyometric exercise, especially if you’re a hockey player. Simply extend one leg across and behind the opposite leg, then jump laterally while landing on the opposite foot, without touching the other foot to the floor. If that’s too difficult, simply modify it by doing the Jackson 5 side to side dance move, and don’t forget to snap your fingers. Have some fun with it! That’s the first round of this 4 minute tabata plyometrics workout for beginners. You have one more round to go. Do this 4 minute tabata plyometrics workout for beginners first thing in the morning when you wake up to really kickstart your day. Or use this tabata workout as your workout finisher after your normal strength training workout. You’re going to love the results.
