Singhasan Battisi is a famous Indian literary work about King Vikramaditya's magical throne and Raja Bhoj's quest to attain it. As soon as Raja Bhoj tries to sit on the throne, one of the 32 statues guarding the throne comes to life and narrates a story about the courageous, clever and just King Vikramaditya. This story is narrated by 16th statue, Vidyavati. During one of his routine night visit around his kingdom to know about the well-being of his subjects, Vikaramaditya comes across a priest and his wife, who are childless. The wife narrates her dream to the king about the Mahayagna performed to appease God Shiva, where the king has to sacrifice his body parts.
