There is an alcohol component to this stove but to be honest, I haven’t gotten around to using it. I wouldn’t carry this whole thing to burn alcohol in. Excellent for backpacking, car camping, kayaking and so on. Good build quality. Excellent price. It really shows you what you can get for a low price. At the time of filming Amazon had the green version of this pack for $60 and the Orange for $85 Colors : Two colors – Orange and Green Weight : 4.5lbs · Materials : Polyester Size 30" x 17" x 12", Capacity 3400 Cubic Inches/55 Liters, Weight 4.5 lbs. Torso length adjustable from 15" - 19. 5" Side and front compression straps to secure sleeping bag, pad or tent Sleeping bag compartment located on bottom of bag and accessed with a front zipper Front and top bungee stash storage for jackets, shoes, rope, or sleeping pad Limited Lifetime Warranty Pros : Well built. Inexpensive. Lots of great features. Adjustable Good warranty. Nicely padded. Includes a rain cover Cons : Heavy. That is my biggest complaint with this pack. Since it is more a budget pack, the weight goes up. Review : I’ve had this pack for 6 years and it continues to perform very, very well for me and I paid $55 for it. Was it worth $55? Absolutely! Is it worth a $100? I believe so. This is a terrific pack for those who are on a limited budget or those who are testing the waters when it comes to backpacking. With a 30lbs loadout I find this pack very comfortable. As you drop down in weight it becomes even more so. My brother bought one of these 3 years ago and it has served him well too. No issues to report. For this price, this is an amazing backpack and 5 years later, I continue to use it. ... 4+ Year Follow up Review - Snugpak Ionosphere - Worth the Money?

10:50
Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR I've been using the Snugpak Ionosphere tent for over 4 years now and the question is; is it worth the money? How has it held up? This is a followup review; 4+ years in the making! … Price : $140 for green version $170 for the tan version on Amazon. Retail is $223 Weight : 3.3lbs / 1520 g. Colors : Green and Tan Amazon Link : https://www.amazon.com/Snugpak-Ionosphere-Dome-Tent-Nylon/dp/B06XKTCY9P This is a product which hasn’t changed much since it was released a long time ago back in 2012 and the truth is, it really doesn’t need to change much because it was such a great product. From the quality, to the functionality to the price, this is one of those rare tents on the market which is well worth the price. I originally did my review of this tent back in 2013 and have continued to use it over the years and I love it just as much now as I did then. It’s one of those products that I pull out of my gear storage every few months to use; especially when I’m heading out on the trail with my buddies. Speaking of which anytime that a friend asks to use a tent or to borrow one, this is one that I grab because it’s lightweight, it’s sturdy, storm worthy and is large enough to work with most people. So you may be wondering what has changed with this tent since arriving on the market; not much! Snugpak does off this tent in an additional color; Tan and it looks great! What many don’t know about this tent is that it is often used in military circles; field shelters, training, jumping and so on. That allows says a lot about the quality of this product and it’s something that I can backup with my own use. This tent has seen more nights out than I can count and with my buddies, double that number. Think of this tent as a bivy which is the size of a small tent; low profile but that’s large enough for anyone to use. Also there is enough room for your gear as well. Thanks to the bug netting, bugs and mosquitoes aren’t an issue. If you are in a dry location you can use the tent alone as a bug net, If the weather changes, you can put the rain fly on in about a minute. There is plenty of room in the interior--so much so that I can actually fit both myself and my pack inside of it. I’m a short dude, 5’5” or so but this works the same with my buddies who are 6ft, 200 lbs. If you’re a tiny person, you can crawl headfirst into the unit and turn around. I can crawl in and turn around, if you are taller or less limber, back into it. The entrance is very easy to get in and out of It, which can be very helpful if the bugs are out in force or its pouring rain. The tent rolls up neatly and doesn’t take up much space in your pack. For the average backpacker or beginner this is one of the best bangs for the buck out there. If you want a no frills, one man tent that you can man pack with ease, this is a great tent. DAC TH72M anodized aluminum poles with pre-curved sections, press fit connectors, and color coded for an easy setup. Setup is simple. Break down is too. Quality is very good as this tent continues to live on without any issues. The materials and quality match the price in my opinion. This isn’t a high-end ultralight tent and it won’t perform like one. Excellent waterproof during heavy downpours and even mild winds around 25mph Big enough not to feel claustrophobic Aluminum stakesare strong enough and have taken my abuses very well. They aren’t the best out there by any means but you do get a TON of them! 16 in total! Works very well when set up in the bed of my truck. This isn’t a free standing tent so I use some ducttape to anchor. A friend of mine liked this idea and often sets it up in the back of his Toyota Tacoma. Not perfect; Could use a mesh pocket on the roof of the tent to hold a light This isn’t the easiest tent in the world to get into and out of. If you are over 6ft, it can be comical to watch. Not free standing Floor material has held up well but I have continuously used an ultralight ground sheet with it. This has held a lot. Condensation is possible with this tent in certain situations. For me it has never been extreme but noticeable depending on temp and humidity. Cant sit up in it. Because of the colors it can be amazing for stealth camping My advice before buying this tent is to consider the size; will it work for you? It is a bivy/tent; keep that in mind before you make a purchasing decision. Most of the complaints that I have seen in regards to this tent come from people who didn’t pay attention to what it was that they were buying. ... Budget Friendly and Awesome - Swedish Army Mess Kit with Trangia Stove – Review

06:05
Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR Today Luke is reviewing the Swedish Army Mess Kit with Trangia Stove and he is going to tell you how to purchase it for a much lower price than what you will find it for in the USA. By the way, it's AWESOME! … Link : https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/swedish-mess-kit-with-cooker-surplus/28552?lookalsoref=polish-mess-kit-surplus&gclid=CjwKEAjwppPKBRCGwrSpqK7Y5jcSJACHYbWYa3sufz1CXPhiyoVL7O98sBGDIaVN9uZPs98RGeUmPRoCEhHw_wcB Price : $22.99 Weight : What is Included: · Swedish Issue Trangia Burner - Free from any defects · Swedish SPRIT 35 Bottle for fueling your Trangia Burner · Swedish Army Trangia Burner Windscreen · Reproduction Swedish Mess Kit Why this is an excellent buy : These cook sets are absolutely awesome because they are so versatile. You can run the alcohol stove or you can use this as a wood burning system. Here in the US, these cooksets are expensive and are typically found on ebay for well over $100. Even outside of the US, these are commonly sold for over $30 but with $25 shipping charges. A combination of an aluminium mess tin and an alcohol stove. Perhaps not a state of the art plasma-cooker from outer space, but virtually indestructible, affordable and very effective. The mess tin is new production, made by Mil-Tec, rest is Swedish army surplus. The small accessories pack into the mess tin and the holder slides over it. The cooking process is very simple and the system is quick to set up: Take the mess tin out of the holder Inside the holder there are two metal wire thingies. Open these so that when you put the mess tin back into the holder, the tin won't go all the way down. Don't put the tin in just yet. Take the burner cup out of the mess tin, unscrew the cap, pour in some fuel, place it on the bottom of the holder (under the wire thingies) and light it by holding a burning match over it. Put whatever you want to cook into the mess tin and slide it into the holder over the burner cup. The wire thingies should hold the mess tin over the burner. If the instructions seem hard to understand, don't worry - when you get the product, you'll be able to figure all this by yourself. If not, you should not have been allowed to play with fire to begin with. Further instructions: This is an alcohol cooker. Few countries sell pure alcohol for normal people, but there are lots of denaturated sorts made exactly for this use. We recommend either Marinol or Sinol. Marinol has a more neutral odor, but Sinol is available from us. NO FUEL IS INCLUDED - the small, EMPTY plastic bottle is for your convenience as normally fuel is sold in unwieldly big containers. It's up to you to fill it. The burner cup and fuel bottle are meant to be transported inside the mess tin. It's a good idea to put them into a small resealable plastic bag before putting them into the tin, as denaturated alcohol will make your food taste real bad, and it's a nuisance to get it off. Always use the lid when cooking things. Makes stuff cook much faster and keeps you from looking like a dolt. The wire handle has a small notch on the top to facilitate hanging the mess kit over a campfire, for example. 1. Fill your Trangia burner with alcohol from the alcohol flask that comes with this set. For best results we recommend using denatured alcohol. 2. Adjust the metal support posts in the windscreen to support your mess kit. 3. Light your Trangia burner. 4. Place windscreen over your Trangia burner. 5. Mix your meal in your mess kit, and slide it into the windscreen. 6. Prepare to enjoy your hot freshly cooked camp meal. 7. Make sure your Trangia burner is cool before putting cap on to protect the rubber o-ring. The windscreen has the three crowns which means that this is legit Swedish military …. In a pinch you can use these stoves with a wood fire but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you absolutely have to. High heat remove the finish ... Budget Friendly Bushcraft Blanket - Swiss Heavyweight Blanket

03:44
Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR Today Luke is discussing the Swiss Army Heavyweight Wool Blanket. Is it the perfect Bushcraft blanket at a budget friendly price? Decide for yourself now in this quick video! Link Heavy Weight : https://swisslink.com/swiss-army-reproduction-heavyweight-blanket.html Link Light Weight : https://swisslink.com/swiss-army-reproduction-blanket.html Price : Heavy – $32.99 Light - $24.99 Original Swiss Wool Blankets have a long history of being some of the best wool blankets ever made but after all of these years they are hard to find and if located, they are very expensive. Paying $160 for one is very common place. Dark taupe with burgandy Beautiful copy of the Swiss Army Blanket. We had these extra heavyweight ones made. Hand sewn white cross on each end. 70 percent wool. Measures 60" x 84". Weighs a very nice 5.9 pounds. Shades of brown will vary a bit. Hardly ever has there been a blanket that is more famous and sought after then the Swiss Army Blanket. For 20 years we sold the original stock from the Swiss Army until it was completely sold out worldwide. So... using the precise original specifications we re-created these beautiful blankets at a very affordable price. 70% fine wool with a white stitched cross. Measures 60 x 80 inches and weighs a whopping 3.9 pounds. Somewhere a couple years back during my clothing / blanket research I stumbled on an article that referenced studies the Wehrmacht conducted on wool content in uniforms during the war. If memory serves they found that they could get down to around ~70% wool content before they had any significant change in the insulative qualities of their wool uniforms. As it stands, that made the 80/20 blends a pretty easy buy for me, and a significant savings over shelling out for the 100% wool Italian blankets. Your mileage may vary. Review : Excellent Quality blankets at a terrific cost Tightly woven Very warm Con Slightly scratchy against the skin with a military surplus smell which makes sense considering that these are coming from a military surplus provider I would recommend washing these by hand in the tub a few times with some fabric softener and lanolin. You can even add some eucalyptus to the mixture for a natural bug repellant! Once you wash it, let it air dry. Don’t throw this in the dryer unless you want to shrink the hell out of it. These make excellent bushcraft and truck blankets. Get one, wash it, treat it to make it softer at a terrific value. ... Famous - One and Only - Large ALICE Pack - Review

08:45
It's Military Surplus Wednesday and today Luke is reviewing the famous Alice Pack! More coming soon! Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR Alice : Two Sizes. Not really used any longer. You might see them in training situations but that is about it. You can find them all over the internet, ebay and military surplus sites. Prices vary but less than $100 is very common. All of the parts can be switched out and replaced. Frame can be used on its own for different hauling possibilities. Aluminum frame. The Large ALICE Pack with Frame has long been the standard for comfort and durability. officially adopted by the military in 1973. The medium sized ALICE can be used without the frame but the LARGE is meant to be used only with the frame. ALICE stands for; All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment The pack features a large main compartment with a cinch closure, an interior radio pocket, six external pockets, padded kidney belt and waist strap. The padded shoulder straps are the wider camouflage version designed to better distribute the additional weight that this pack can hold. Pack must be used with ALICE frame (included). Issues : The biggest issue with the ALICE pack is that when they are packed full, the weight will pull away from your body. Technical Information: • Main compartment: 13" X 22" X 8" (over 2200 cubic inches of space) • Radio pocket: 10.5" X 11" X 5.5" • Three top pockets: Hold 2 M16 magazines • Lower side pocket: 5.5" X 9" X 2.5" • Lower center pocket: 8.5" X 9" X 2" Total capacity: 3800 cubic inches Water-resistant nylon with 2-strap top flap 9" x 3"w. shoulder pads Lower and upper back pads Exterior measures 22" x 20" x 14"h. Weighs a sturdy 6 1/2 lbs. USA made Designed for longer trips and heavier loads up to 70 lbs. Same construction and features as medium pack plus three additional 3" x 7" x 1" external pockets and larger 20" x 20" x 8" main compartment. Complete includes pack, frame, shoulder pads and kidney pad. Cannot be used as a backpack without the frame and shoulder pads. ALICE packs can be used with or without a frame but the external frame definitely helps balance the load – otherwise, these packs get pretty center-fat. What’s bad about ALICE? The pack can be uncomfortable especially with heavy loads and some of the straps for lashing gear to the bag get in the way. The old style of metal strap adjustments make closing the compartments a bit tedious. There is no easy access pockets for things like water bottles although with the external frame, you can rig something up pretty easily. Built with rugged materials designed to withstand the rigors of extreme conditions. The large storage compartment is great for hauling bulky equipment. People who demand the most from their equipment will appreciate the toughness of this bag. While in use with military forces in the US, it would be common to hear of a soldier referring to his ALICE as Old Faithful. Not elegant by any means but it will get the job done! Story of my ALICE Pack : This is not the ALICE pack that I grew up with as I had a medium size pack that my Unlce who was a marine gave me. I carried that pack everywhere I went and it never let me down. When I got old enough to drive, I had a chevy corrisca which had a faulty lock on one of the doors. One day I had the back in the back seat, thought that the doors were locked and came back to find that I was mistake and it was stolen. Alice Tips : The large ALICE Pack is just that, large and if features a large center area for gear. I have found that it really helps to pack your gear into sacks and then load up the pack. It makes organizing simple and gear acquisition very quick .... My Favorite Gear - Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Sleeping Pad

Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR Luke goes over one of his favorite pieces of gear; the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Sleeping Pad … Winter time is upon us and today I’m going to be sharing with you all one of my favorite pieces of gear. Now if you want the full review of this product where I go over all of the ins and outs, here is a link to that video. Review Video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFKjqLcP0pE Amazon Link : https://www.amazon.com/Therm-a-Rest-Neo-Air-Xtherm-Sleeping-Pad/dp/B009IJGSBO Price : $150 for the regular size · Ripstop nylon and polyester fabric • ThermaCapture layers • Mummy shape 1 color – this one Tech Specs Material [top] 30D ripstop nylon, [bottom] 50D polyester Shape mummy Dimensions [Large] 77 x 25 x 2.5 in, [Regular] 72 x 20 x 2.5 in R-Value 5.7 Packed Size [Large] 11 x 4.5 in, [Regular] 9 x 4 in Claimed Weight [Large] 20 oz, [Regular] 15 oz Recommended Use camping Review : Out of all of the sleeping pads which I have and have used over the years, this remains my number one choice. Not only for winter but even for the summer months. Speaking of the summer months, I’ve found that I can go with a lighter insulating layer thanks to the warmer sleeping pad. I was worried that the pad would be too warm in the summer trips. I had no issues with over heating in the summer nights In the winter, it has taken care of me all the way now to -10f with nothing more than a moisture barrier between the pad and the ground. Absolutely no leaks or issues to report over the years of use. How long has it been; I purchased this early 2014 and with some care, it looks almost new. Works just as good on the ground as it does in a hammock. The weight and durability of this pad are amazing! The cost is high, but worth every penny. I am also a side sleeper and I can report no bones in the dirt while on this pad. The fact that this little wonder rolls up so small and only weighs about a pound is a huge plus consider my back issue. The inflation bag is a great idea as well an it works! Negative: There is some noise with this pad but I’m comfortable sleeping outdoors so I can block out most noises including this one. It’s noisy but not loud. It’s a crinkle!

Made from Eastman Tritan copolyester that is manufactured without BPA. Resistant to staining and retaining odor. 32 oz narrow-mouth Weight : 4.6oz A standard issue military canteen weighs : 5oz Get Canteen Cup : No plastic taste to it at all after washing it and using it for the first time. In contrast, my army one has always had some plastic-ish type flavor to the water ever since it was new. This canteen is the same shape and size as the military version and as such fits right into the canteen cup and holder. The benefits of a clear canteen is that you can see exactly how much water you have left. Also you can easily see if the canteen needs to be cleaned. As for improvements, I’d like to see nalgene include measuring lines into the plastic. That would be a beneficial super easy thing to do. Works with canteen cups and pouches. .... Is it a Hauler? - Gregory Baltoro 75 (2018) – Trail Review

13:56
This channel is Agenda Free and is fully supported by the viewers. Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR For numerous months I have been working to review the Gregory Baltoro 75L backpack and today, the Trail Review goes up as it is time to find out if the latest version of this famous pack is worth your hard earned money. Maine Overnight Adventure Video : https://youtu.be/9rVG9ObplV0 … Link : https://www.gregorypacks.com/backpacking/premium/baltoro-75/916BAL75.html Price : Retail is around $320 – but at the time of filming I have seen it for around $225. Weight : 5.22lbs Colors : Dusk Blue and Orange Sizes : S M L Optional Liters : 65, 75, 85, and 95 which they refer to as the pro model Pros : Comfort : This pack fits like a glove…as the saying goes. It hugs the body in all of the right places while giving you good lumbar support which is adjustable. Excellent balance between the hips and shoulders. distributes weight very nicely. straps are super comfortable Excellent quality Easy to access pocket and gear – U-shaped access is awesome. Good capacity Stylish pack – I love the orange color. Hydration bag is also a day pack – Offers 12liters of capacity. Very simple, not the most comfortable but it is useful. Flexibility : Baltoro’s innovative pivoting shoulder straps and hipbelt play an important role in carrying comfort. Each piece shifts independently, so the pack remains level and close against your body while the shoulder straps and hipbelt move up and down. This feature is especially noticeable on extended climbs, where I could feel one side drop while the other raised up as I took a step Included rain cover does what it is supposed to do; keep the pack dry. It works. Waterproof hippocket also works to keep the rain out. Manages weight as good as most external frame packs; 47lbs loadouts are comfortable with this pack and that says a lot. Lots of places to clip and attach gear to. Cons : Weight : While Gregory has been dropping the weight of this pack over the years with each generation, this thing is still very heavy! Over 5lbs with the hydration carry day pack and included pack cover – this is not a light pack. With that being said, this pack is made for hauling so what you get with the weight is the ability to carry a lot of gear, food and water very comfortably. Price : Full retail price is high; but the on sale price is great. The Stretch Mesh water bottle pocket has a tendency to push empty bottles out while you are hiking. I’ve had this happen multiple times while on my adventures. To fix this you really have to tighten the compression straps Breathability : while the back panel and hip belt are more breathable than ever before you are still going to get soaked in sweat when you are hiking. There is no way around it. It’s better than before but doesn’t compare to some offerings from competitors. Small Pocket : The only disappointment is that the water-resistant hipbelt pocket is too small to fit a larger smartphone Summary : At nearly 5 pounds, it’s overbuilt for those who want to travel fast and light, but if you value the extra cushioning and support, it’s one of the best packs on the market. ...
