Developing 35mm Color Film at Home: Tetenal Colortec C-41 (Snippet 30)

09:13
People have been recommending we start developing film at home for so long and we've heard you in the comments and are so grateful for that extra push to try something new!! Before we got started, Lou did a lot of research and with the help of great video's like our friend Ed's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmw08MYXmm4&t=588s) he was able to figure out which supplies we would need to build our little home development station. We haven't made a film video in a long time as we were a bit frustrated with having to outsource this part of the process and are so happy that we finally got around to figuring out how to own the full process now. It's cheaper, more fun, and you have way more control of the end result. We also put up a blog post with a bunch of the photos from this roll so if you want to see them check out http://plantbasedtraveler.com/film-photography/ We're so inspired to get back out into Berlin and start shooting film again, so stay tuned because February we have a fun series coming your way :) Question of the Week: Last week's video was all about The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and a few people mentioned that it would be fun to share what books we are reading in the comments, so.... let's start! Right now I'm reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami and Lou is reading Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa. Can't wait to hear what you have on your shelf! ........................................................ We Got Married - Part 1! (Story 5)

07:59
This is the most beautiful video Lou has ever made. It captures the wedding festivities so perfectly. We both feel so lucky to have shared this special moment in our lives with some of our dearest family and friends. It also just seems so perfect that we were able to incorporate our favorite things into the weekend, like serving Cinnamon Snail catering (all vegan!!), cinematography (huge huge shout out to Annie, Sean, and David for helping us out so much!) and photography (thank you so much John for serving as our stand in wedding photographer!). We feel so lucky that our guests could be a part of all the things that matter to us and now to get to share these memories on our channel feels so right :) But most important of all I want to thank my HUSBAND! So crazy to type those words, but how incredible it feels to let the world know that this man will be my partner for the rest of time. I am so lucky to have such a hard working, talented creative as my other half. And of course a huge thank you to all of you who stick with us each and every week. We love you all more than you know and can't wait to keep sharing more adventures with you as the weeks go on. We felt so incredible reading all of your well wishes on last weeks video and it made us even more excited to keep on creating. EXTREME KONMARI METHOD DECLUTTERING | Before & After

17:52
I never thought cleaning my room would change my life, but here I am a new person all thanks to a few days of extreme bedroom decluttering inspired by Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and her KonMari Method. Lou and I spent a few days organizing, cleaning and decluttering my childhood bedroom from clothes and closets to books and boxes of sentimental items. I can truly attest to the life-changing magic of the KonMari Method. We purged my closet of over a decade worth of clutter and were able to minimize my possessions to just those that spark joy. A friend of mine joked that we are the only people who live in a van that are also secret hoarders, but after finishing this cleaning process I can proudly say that is no longer true! This process helped us to reach the minimal lifestyle that we aspire to embody and I truly feel a million pounds lighter knowing that I actually have a bedroom and not a storage unit waiting for me at my parents' house. We hope you enjoy this one! Let us know about your own cleaning projects below! Is anyone else newly obsessed with decluttering? #konmari #mariekondo #extremedeclutter Here is a blog post I wrote about the whole process! https://www.wildweroam.com/blog/extreme-declutter-konmari-method ........................................................ We got a lot of questions about this so we thought we'd make a quick little tutorial on how we scan and organize our 35 film negatives. Morning Routine for Mental Health - Meditation and Gratitude

07:16
Enter offer code "WILDWEROAM" at Squarespace.com for 10% off your first purchase, or visit: http://squarespace.com/wildweroam . . Morning routines can be hard to stick with especially when they are expensive, time consuming, and demand a great deal of will power. Lou and I have found over the past few years that focusing on meditation as the keystone of our mornings has tremendously improved our mental health. In the past month though we've added a new addition to our routine -- a gratitude practice. This video is all about how incorporating gratitude into our daily life has not only made us feel more fulfilled, but also more connected to the world around us. Gratitude can be for big things or little things and while it can be hard to think of things when you aren't having the best day, I have really found that the practice can lift me out of difficult times. Here is the blogpost I mentioned in the video about meditation: https://www.wildweroam.com/blog/how-meditating-daily-has-changed-my-life And here is our dear friend and meditation teacher Eddie Vero's website: http://eddieveromeditation.com/ #morningroutineformentalhealth #meditation #gratitudepractice ........................................................ How to Shoot 35mm Film (Story 1)

15:08
Film Camera: Canon A1 with a 50mm f/1.4 Canon lens -- FujiColor Superia 200 Video Camera: Canon 5D3 with a 35mm Summicron F2 (1970) Leica lens This is our first STORY in our new Snippet/Story style and we are so very excited to share it with you. This week we tried to weave the beautiful experience of film photography with a bit of a how-to-video with the hopes of inspiring you to get out and capture your environment. The entire experience of shooting film from choosing your film stock, to manually loading the film, to the sexy sound of winding the film after each photo, well it all just begs you to slow down, to focus on the moment at hand, and take it all in and then... the most important part... to stay present. No checking how the photo turned out, no re-taking the selfie, not even the need to see how many likes it got. Nope, a film camera gives you the luxury of hoping that you captured the moment and letting that be enough. And while I can go on and on about the lessons that film has already taught me - and this was just my first roll ! - the main thing that making this story taught me is how lucky I am to have a partner as patient and thoughtful as Lou! His work ethic is unlike anyone I have ever met and the passion he pours into creating these beautiful moments each week never ceases to amaze me. I'm grateful for this week's video for reminding me of time spent: hanging at second hand camera stores, capturing special moments with dear friends, and enjoying perfect moments of summer when you feel surrounded by love. We Got a New Van!!! - (FOR FREE)

11:24
Sometimes there's nothing wrong with asking for what you want! We knew we would be missing our van Ody during our long stint back to the States and really wanted to try out van life in the United States after spending a year in a van in Europe. So after some brainstorming, I decided to go out of my comfort zone, pitch a stranger and ask him to give us a beautiful Westfalia Vanagon for two weeks for FREE. I kept reminding myself when reaching out to Harley at PeaceVans that the worst that could happen was he said no... but the best that could happen is we get an incredible adventure, get to collaborate with a wonderful company, and in the end, we'd get to make some killer videos! Hope you enjoy this one as much as we did making it. #vanlife #westfalia #vanagon ......................... If you're interested in renting a Peace Van here is their website: http://www.peacevansrentals.com/ Lou and I fell in love with the team at Peace Vans as they are so thoughtful and really help make your time on the road life-changing with incredible recommendations and wonderful suggested itineraries for the PNW. They do sell out though so if you want to book I'd recommend doing it sooner rather than later :) ........................................................ What I Eat in a Day - (Vegan, Plant Based, Oil-Free, Low-Fat)

05:42
Enter offer code "WILDWEROAM" at Squarespace.com for 10% off your first purchase, or visit: http://squarespace.com/wildweroam ...... This is our first official What I Eat in a Day video, so we thought we would take you through a normal day in our life when it comes to food. We live in a van, so have a tiny kitchen without an oven. This means, for the most part, we keep what we eat very simple - lots of oatmeal, salads, soups, and stews around here. Lou recently finished a 7 day water fast to manage his Rheumatoid Arthritis and ever since then we are very focused on keeping our diet as health-promoting as possible. That is why we eat a low fat, oil-free vegan diet. It's all plant-based, filled with lots of leafy greens, sprouts, whole grains, starchy vegetables, and fresh fruit. I wrote a blog post that gives a bit of an intro into our style of healthy eating with a recipe for our oatmeal too. How to See All of Paris in One Day

04:31
We walked past 18 of the biggest tourist sites in Paris and it ended up being over 18 miles. It definitely made our feet sore, but it was so, so worth it! Getting acquainted with a new city while traveling can be difficult sometimes! How much can you fit into one day? We decided the best way to get to know Paris would be to walk it on foot, so we enlisted our new friend Emy, her Youtube name is Antastesia (check out her YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/Apn9a) who knew the city so well as our guide for the day. If you have any questions about our itinerary feel free to comment below! Sites: 1. Sacré-Cœur 2. Moulin Rouge 3.Galeries Lafayette 4.Opéra - Palais Garnier 5. Place Vendôme 6. Place de la Concorde 7. Jardin des Tuileries 8. Musée du Louvre 9. Centre Pompidou 10. Notre Dame 11. Sorbonne 12. Panthéon 13. Jardin du Luxembourg 14. Musée d'Orsay 15. Grand Palais 16. My First Tattoo (Snippet 21)

03:55
A huge thank you to Rafael (instagram.com/silveiratattooer/) for taking care of Lou and giving him this incredible tattoo! I have to say I think I was more nervous than Lou and also for my filming debut - so happy that the footage turned out so we can have this day memorialized forever :) Since I met Lou over 5 years ago he's been thinking about getting a tattoo and for the longest time it was just that - a thought. But then a few months back, Lou was looking at AKA's instagram - a tattoo shop here in Berlin ( https://www.instagram.com/akaberlin/) and saw that Rafael was going to be visiting from Rio. Well... it didn't take long for Lou to realize that this was the style he'd been dreaming of and it was finally the right time to make the leap and get INKED!!! The other amazing thing is that Rafael is vegan too!! So Lou was able to get a tattoo with vegan ink :) Hope you guys enjoy this little snippet from our Sunday afternoon. As for the question of the week: Anyone else have tattoos out there? Anyone been thinking of getting one for a while? Any funny stories about getting a tattoo?? Whiplash

01:46
Right now life feels like a crazy, beautiful, intense blur. Zipping from one place to the next, building memories, meeting friends, then saying goodbye all over again, waking up some mornings unsure of where we parked the van the night before, or what country we're even in. I decided to try and intercut some of the last years footage to give you an idea of the feeling of whiplash Dana and I are experiencing. We Are Back! (Story 8)

16:42
We're BACK!! And it feels so good to be sharing a video with all of you! It wasn't the video we had imagined making, but it is perfect in it's own way - filled with so much love and hard work, but most of all so many precious details of our story. When I sat down to watch this video one last time before we pressed publish, my heart almost burst. The combination of our childhood stories, how we fell in love, the wedding, and just so many memories, filled me with such gratitude for all the gifts in my life - Lou being one of the most important. I feel so safe next to him and brave as well. Putting ourselves out there and sharing these intimate details of our life with the world can definitely be scary at times, but it feels so right to be creating here again on Youtube. So thank you for being patient and kind with us, waiting as we took time to regroup, recharge, and get ready for the biggest chapter of our lives! Stay tuned because Tuesday's are back - well no promises about the whole weekly thing, but we will do our best! ........................................................ Where We Had Our First Kiss! (almost a DECADE ago)

It has been 9 years and 7 months since Lou and I first met and fell in love in Barcelona on a study abroad program. It's been both magical and also hard to comprehend arriving back in this beautiful city for the first time since with our van Ody. Van life with my husband is never something I could have envisioned for myself while studying abroad here so many years ago, but I feel so lucky that this is the life we have chosen. To shower in parking lots, re-visit special places, draw for hours, and to do it all with my best friend. ps. so happy we're bringing back the Sketchbook Stories!! #vanlife #ourlovestory #ourfirstkiss ........................................................ 7 DAY WATER FAST - NO FOOD FOR A WEEK (Before & After)

14:07
DISCLAIMER: We are not doctors, nor experts on fasting. We do not recommend anyone do a medically unsupervised water fast. If we had not been in Northern Spain when Lou got injured, he would have gone to True North Health Center (https://www.healthpromoting.com/) in California to do his water fast with the support of their medical team. If you are under 18 years old, on medication, addicted to any substances, have currently or had a history of eating disorders, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have heart problems or any other diseases it is even more important that you seek the advice of a medical professional before attempting a water fast on your own. It might sound really crazy to you, but Lou did a 7 DAY WATER FAST! If you've never heard of a water fast, it is very simple: don't eat any food or drink anything other than pure filtered water for a specified amount of time, so for Lou that was one entire week without any food, no coffee, no tea, no lemon water, no juice, or vitamins - just plain filtered water and rest. You might be familiar with the trendy diet called Intermittent Fasting. Here people only eat in a certain window of time (16 hr fast/9 hr feed or 14 hr fast/10 hr feed) and while this has lots of touted health benefits, Lou was in need of relief fast from a horrible back injury and decided he'd do whatever he could to get results quickly as possible. One of the main benefits of fasting is the body's ability to reduce inflammation. Instead of spending lots of energy digesting food, the body can now work to rebuild the immune system and while there still aren't many long term trials of fasting's effects on humans, science is showing that fasting can be used to help treat a whole host of problems like heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, high blood pressure, and autoimmune diseases. Over 6 years ago Lou was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks the joints, and over the course of the last few years has been able to get off medication and manage his symptoms with the help of a low-fat oil free plant based vegan diet. However, when he does stray from a health-promoting diet his RA symptoms do begin to resurface. So while we're not sure if his back injury had to do with his RA, either way, the autoimmune disease makes his healing process extremely slow. We live in a van, so being immobile was actually a very scary experience, and left Lou to embark on this water fasting journey. The before and after is astounding as his pain levels went from an 8 out of 10 to... well you have to watch for that! Before we get to the video, I just wanted to say that a lot of people come to water fasting searching for a quick fix for weight loss and I really recommend that you reconsider. Water fasting is a wonderful tool to manage health conditions with the help of doctor supervision, but when it comes to weight loss it might not be your most effective tool because if post fast you continue all the same habits you will be left in the same position. If you are searching for weight loss please research a low-fat plant-based diet, but mainly I want you to really think about where the desire to lose weight is coming from. Our society tells us constantly that we are not good enough and instead of buying into this lie, this might be the time you instead embrace yourself as you are. Focus on self-love, body-acceptance, and finding self-worth outside of ascetics. Diet culture is toxic, and while I know it's complicated for me to write about it as we are huge advocates for a low-fat vegan diet as its been an incredible tool to manage Lou's autoimmune disease, in the end, I want people to know that they are worthy as is. No crazy lifestyle changes will change your relationship to yourself unless you do the mental work. Thanks for being here with us and while I know water fasting might make a lot of people uncomfortable it was an incredible experience for Lou and I hope you can see how much it helped him. The Power of Now (Story 7)

05:04
The Power of Now... have you read it? I hadn't read this book until last year and it set off an insane binge of introspective non-fiction titles after I finished it including: "Radical Self Acceptance" by Tara Brach, "Breaking Open the Head" by Daniel Pinchbeck, "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg, "Early Retirement Extreme" by Jacob Lund Fisker, and "A New Earth" also by Eckhart Tolle. And during the time I started reading all these different titles, we started meditating. And like Lou talked about in this Story, it really did change everything for both of us. I found myself less anxious, connecting to the joy in the little moments - even just walking to the grocery store or watering our plants - and I even realized I was much better at being present for those around me. And while introspection and meditation is definitely not a cure all for everything, I found that by connecting deeper to myself, I was able to free myself of a lot of the anxiety that didn't serve me. By shifting my focus to the present moment, life really started to blossom in front of my eyes. So my question for the week for you lovely readers is how do you practice being present? What is your form of meditation? Your favorite self-care tips? Mental health is such an important topic that can easily get pushed under the rug and I want to make sure each of you reading this knows how much you matter to us and how we hope you make the time take care of yourself! Oh, and if you're in Berlin and want to get a tattoo please hit up our awesome friend Eva! https://www.instagram.com/evadawn_illustrations/ Lots of love, Dana ........................................................ 1988 Westfalia Vanagon Van Tour | Van Life in America

06:29
This is a tour of a Peace Vans rental van - 1988 Westfalia Vanagon, Chilliwack. This van has been given a ton of upgrades and improvements--a new motor, new transmission, an upgraded second battery system (plenty to power modern fridge, some lights, and charge devices). It's the perfect vehicle for a family van vacation as it sleeps four, and for us, it was a comfortable home on wheels for two weeks in December as we explored the Pacific North West. We fell in love with the van during our two weeks stay and wanted to share our Top 5 favorite things starting with 1) The Pop-Top 2) The Propane Heater 3) The Comfortable Table Set-Up 4) The Swivel Chair 5) The Wonderful Sound System We took this van on a proper road trip through the Pacific Northwest focusing on Olympic National Park and then making our way down to the Red Woods with stops in the iconic beach of Oregon like Canon Beach. We loved this trip and while it was the winter (our first experience with winter camping) it was so much more memorable than we could have ever imagined. If you're interested in renting a van just like this one make sure to check out the Peace Vans website - http://peacevansrentals.com They sell out very quickly every year so book early :) Big hugs, Dana (& Lou) #vantour #westfalia #vanagon

London 35mm Film Shoot - Portraits of Strangers (Snippet 20)

05:33
Every roll of 35mm film I shoot on our Canon A-1 turns into an adventure. I try to think up goals for each roll, whether it's capturing a new city, or focusing on light, or my consistent goal of getting things in focus!! Well, this roll was a mix of a bunch of things and hope you stick around through the whole video because the second half gets interesting as we take to the street and start talking up strangers in London :) Ever since our first film video where I took portraits of a bunch of our friends here in Berlin, I've been wanting to do more of just that - getting in front of people and trying to capture the energy of the moment. While I am still getting my feet underneath me as a hobby photographer, this was such a fun way to push my limits. And for this week's question for the lovely souls who read these video descriptions: What is something this year that you've done that was out of your comfort zone?? #shootfilm #35mmfilm #takingportraitsofstrangers ....................................................... Our Trip to Portugal (Story 4)

07:25
Our trip to Portugal felt like a minute and a year.... When Lou and I snuck away to Portugal, I had no idea how meaningful the time away from Berlin would end up being. There's something so special about getting time to unplug, pick up a good book, and really unwind. Not to mention that it was actually the first time since I met Lou over 6 years ago that we actually took a proper vacation as a couple. We have had the amazing opportunity to travel extensively together, but it has always been with our families, so to go away for an entire week and have a whole house to ourselves - well I have to admit we felt like real adults!! Now that we find ourselves back in Berlin, though, the hint of color my skin got while the sun shone for 6 hours is fading, and I can feel my craving for Vitamin D coming back, this trip was the perfect reminder of how much we enjoy spending time together, in nature, and I know that wherever life brings us whether that is into a van, or into a cabin, or who knows really, I will most definitely be happy because the person I love will be by my side. And for those of you who read these little descriptions - the question of the week is.... what book are you currently reading? ........................................................ VLOG 14 - The eBook Is Out! ($3 a Day - Vegan - Part 6)

03:31
Our eBook is out, and it’s available at https://www.wildweroam.com/livingonless/ . It’s been quite a whirlwind trying to get everything together in time but we couldn’t be more proud of the end result! We’ve decided that the eBook will be free, but in the spirit of giving stuff away for free, we’re hoping that each person who downloads a copy asks 3 people they know to subscribe to our YouTube Channel and Instagram. This way we’ll get this book into a lot of different hands all over the world, so that if someone’s looking for ways to eat on a budget, or how to be a dirt-cheap vegan, then this book should get them started in the right direction! This video also concludes our 6 part series on “Living on Less,” which has been a challenging but beautiful and humbling experience. We’ve learned a ton—where to shop, the exact price of nearly every single vegetable we eat, what spices are the most versatile, and how fortunate we are to live in a city where spending less than 3 euros per day is actually quite easy. If you have any questions or suggestions for us please leave us a comment below! We absolutely love hearing from you and can't wait to share more. ........................................................ Camping Trip 35mm Film Edition, Shooting Kodak Portra Film (Snippet 15)

06:50
One of our favorite things is exploring and when you pair that with practicing my new photography hobby, well its a magical combination for Snippet 15. Even though I start off this video saying that this is our second photo tutorial... it didn't quite turn out like a tutorial, and that is okay! I think it's easy to focus on the steps it takes to learn something new -- like learning the grammar of a new language, or in this case the right f-stop/shutter speed for the light or how to focus precisely -- however the most important part of learning something new is PRACTICE! You aren't going to become a flexible yogi overnight or the next Picasso by watching one youtube tutorial. It takes hours upon hours of consistent practice to master anything. So we thought that sharing another video with me taking photos and Lou giving me tips and tricks along the way would be the perfect thing to inspire you to get out and practice whatever you are trying to learn right now!! For example, this time around we learned that a 160 film ISO is a little slow for shooting in the woods, and that it's really hard to capture the beauty of a hiking trail in front of you because it never seems to look quite as good as when you're there. And with that - the new weekly description question for those of you who are still reading :) What skills/hobbies are you working on right now? What is the best way you've found to keep practicing the things you want to improve on? Thank you for watching, for reading, and for joining us here. It means the world to Lou and I to connect with each of you and we're so grateful for your continued support. VLOG 09: Living on 3 Dollars a Day - Part 1

05:20
https://www.wildweroam.com/livingonless/ So this video is just the start of a month long (really life long) project that Lou and I started today. It is all about living on less with the goal that if we spend less money on things, we'll have more money in our pockets to do. For Christmas Lou got the book Extreme Early Retirement by Jacob Lund Fisker and it really set us into motion on how to think more deliberately about the way money flows in and out of our lives. (If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!!) As you can tell by the videos were making, dedicating ourselves to this creative pursuit is our dream job. We want to be making creative projects that not only sustain our soul, but also feed us and we decided that there was something that we could do to help ourselves get self-sufficient sooner rather than later and that was to tighten our budget. This month we are dedicated to reducing our food budget to just 3 euros a day. The 3 euros is for everything that we spend the entire month - no extra spending money outside of food either! Granted our bills are paid and we have cleaning supplies and other toilettes already purchased, so that just leaves us with trying to create the most joyous March possible :) We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more. If you have any questions or suggestions for us please leave us a comment below! It is such a different experience watching back one of Lou's edits when I haven't been there for any of the filming. Yesterday, I arrived at Lou's home in New Hampshire and was so eager to see what he had captured for this week's snippet and like always I was not disappointed. We Have A Visitor!

08:54
You might already know from the new Sketchbook Stories series, or our newsletter/insta, but if not last week my little brother came to visit us all the way from California and get his first taste of #VANLIFE!! The trip really couldn't have come at a better time because with Ody breaking down and needing a week at the mechanic to get a new water pump, we were homeless!! David showed up with a huge rental van and we got to explore the #Algarve and Costa Vicentina together. It really was a trip of a lifetime which meant capturing all the little moments was quite difficult. After he left I realized I hadn't filmed meeting him, him leaving, most of our daily adventures, and turns out that is okay because Lou is an editing master and can still capture the feeling of the trip with so little footage to work with. Really hope you like this one Dave!!! Miss you already. Can't wait for you to join the team one day :) Love from #Portugal, Dana (& Lou) ........................................................ We're Staying in Portugal!

09:02
Our time in Lisbon was filled with life - new faces, new sites, new restaurants, but it was also filled with many sweaty days and nights, little sleep, and zero routine. I think that is one of the best parts of #vanlife. That you can create this intense experience - building a life in a city in just two weeks - and then in just a moment, you can drive away to build another. One based on lazy mornings and ocean swims. You can just dream up a reality and then chase it immediately. Change your plan whenever you want. And if we're doing it correctly we can take the time to listen to exactly what we need to find fulfillment and then go after it without hesitation. #Portugal has been our playground all summer, and after much debate on if we should push on with our plan to explore northern Spain in the autumn months, we've changed our minds and are staying here in this country that has given us so much. We can't wait to share the adventures to come. Big hugs, Dana (&Lou) ........................................................ VLOG 10: $3 A DAY - Part 2 with Vegan Recipes!

09:38
https://www.wildweroam.com/livingonless/ So we've finished the first week of living on just 3 euros a day each and decided to update you on how things have been going and the news is surprisingly good! We've been eating well - lots of potatoes, rice, beans and other veggies - oh and tons of oatmeal. The biggest change is that we don't go to any grocery stores in our own neighborhood, but instead bike over to Neukoln and shop at markets there. The prices are more than half of what we get in Kreuzberg, so that's definitely helping us make this budget lifestyle possible. I think my biggest takeaway so far is living vegan on budget really doesn't have to mean sacrificing. In fact, I actually have really enjoyed simplifying our food process and making a bit more of a meal plan for us during the week. It means less time devoted to cooking as we are making food in bigger batches and we're definitely eating healthier!! This budget definitely doesn't allow for vegan ice cream or dinners out :) We are excited to share two recipes with you in this video, but we have a lot more in the works. We've decided to actually make an e-book at the end of the month to share with you 10 recipes as well as all the tips and tricks we've learned throughout this process. The article we were featured in on the Vegan Society website is http://www.vegansociety.com/whats-new/blog/beaten-track-south-america-vegan%E2%80%99s-experience Oatmeal for Two at only 27 cents a bowl! - 150 grams Oats - 1 clementine - 1 small apple - 85 grams frozen raspberries - 13 grams walnuts 1. Cook oats in water 2. While oats are cooking put frozen berries on low heat to create a jam like consistency (make sure this mixture doesn't burn!) 3. Dice apple and sauté in a bit of water - this brings out the sweetness and if you aren't on such a tight budget this would be a great place to add cinnamon 4. Once oats are done, portion them out into two bowls and decorate with all the other ingredients Fried Rice/ 4 portions at only 1 euro a bowl! 3 cups dried white rice 3 large carrots 150 g frozen peas 1 large onion 3 small red peppers 8 cloves of garlic 4 tablespoons soy sauce 80 grams sunflower seeds 1 lime 1. Cook rice to package directions 2. Dice onion, garlic, red peppers, carrots (into matchsticks) 3. Saute onion, garlic for 15 minutes in oil or water 4. Add carrots and cook for another 3 5. Add red peppers, peas and cook for 3 more minutes 6. Add cooked rice to veggies and stir to combine 7. Add soy sauce to rice, veggie mixture 8. Portion out into bowls and top with sunflower seeds and a quarter lime each Enjoy :) We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more. We Left Berlin!

11:42
Happy New Year!! Lou and I have taken a little hiatus from Youtube and Instagram the past few weeks, but we're finally ready to share all that we've been up to. From moving out of Berlin to exploring Paris to even going to the Caribbean, the past two months have been quite a whirlwind. I'm excited to tell you that we finally feel completely recharged and ready to take on 2018. We have so much in the works for the next few months and can't wait to share all the projects with you. In this video we meet up with our friend Ammar, from the Youtube Channel Yes Theory. He along with a few other friends have built a platform that is changing the world every single week. They challenge their audience to go outside of their comfort zone, commit to their dreams, and we feel so lucky to have connected with them. Please check out their latest video - it won't let you down. https://www.youtube.com/user/PracProcrastination We also meet up with our dear friend Emy, who we first met a few years back when we came to Paris with my parents to celebrate my 25th birthday. Emy is one of the bravest people we know. She continues to put herself out there, challenging societal norms and expressing her political views regularly both in French and in English on her channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/Apn9a Rewatching our video was the perfect reminder to kick off two of my intentions for the new year - practicing gratitude and being present. I find myself feeling transported when I watch this style of Lou's videos with the beautiful montages of life's little moments, which seems strange because I was the one who actually lived through them. And while I think that learning to meditate in 2016 and continuing that practice in 2017 has helped me become much more focused on remembering to pull back into the present moment, I want to make an extra effort this year as we're traveling in the van meeting so many people, experiencing new things every day, to recognize my gifts in the moment and focus on the little beauties in life. ........................................................ We Got Married - Part 2! (Story 6)

09:16
This is the last video in our three-part series about our wedding and I'm sure you'll agree that it is one of the most captivating videos that Lou has ever made. Before I write the descriptions I always watch the videos once or twice to get my head around what I want to say to describe the hours that Lou has condensed into a few moments we share and this week I was left with teary eyes and a huge smile. How can I put into words the most important day of my life thus far? Promising Lou that he was the man I want to spend the rest of my life with in front of so many of our closest family and friends was an experience that felt so much grander than I ever could have imagined. And it is moments like this when I am so beyond grateful that Lou's passion is creating gorgeous videos because I will forever have a living scrapbook of some of the most precious moments of our life together. On a different note, isn't it crazy to think about how many couples from all over the world have started their marriage just as we did - at City Hall in lower-Manhattan?? For some I'm sure they had close friends and family pouring into the small room like we did to take part in the magical ceremony. While others, like the couple Lou and I met in line from Manchester, turn up that day with only the love of their life hoping to meet a stranger who will be willing to come join them in this private moment to serve as the witness to their marriage. However a couple choses to celebrate this day in their life, all I can hope is that each person out there gets to feel the same amount love that I feel for Lou. Question of the Week: Have you ever been to New York City? What was your favorite part of the trip? And if you haven't been would you like to go? What would you like to do? ........................................................ VLOG 05: Easy Vegan Veggie Curry Recipe

02:59
Making delicious vegan food does not need to be intimidating, expensive, or scary! So many times people have told me, if I could cook like you do I would be happy to eat vegan food all the time! Well, it's time we start teaching you how we get all the yummy food we feature in our instagram. Starting today, we are going to start sharing more recipes here on our channel with the hopes to inspire you to get into the kitchen and starting experimenting. Making vegetables the focus of a meal can be a very new experience for some, but with a little experience in the spice department and once you have gotten comfortable chopping up tons of vegetables, I promise it really is not that hard. Please feel free to share any recipes you want to see us make, any of your go-to veggie meals, and any other feedback in the comments below. RECIPE: Vegan Veggie Coconut Curry serves 8-10 with rice (or two people for 4 meals!) 4 onions diced 5 carrots diced 12 potatoes boiled and diced 2 boxes mushrooms (200 g each) 1 large can chickpeas 1 jar or bag of sundried tomatoes either in oil or just dried 1 can diced tomatoes 1 can coconut milk 6 big handfuls spinach 1 two inch cube of ginger finely diced 1 entire head of garlic finely diced (it sounds like a lot but it's delicious!) curry powder paprika 1. Add potatoes to large pot of boiling water, cook until they are done about 20 minutes 2. Saute onions for 15 minutes in a tbsp of coconut oil 2. Add carrots, ginger and garlic, stir and cook for 10 minutes 3. Add 2 tbsp of curry powder, 2 tbsp paprika, chickpeas, coconut milk, tomato, sundried tomato and cook for 5-8 minutes 4. Add spinach and stir and wait until it has cooked down (about 2 minutes) and then add half of the diced potatoes 5. Use a hand-blender to blend to a consistency you like then add the rest of the potatoes and diced mushrooms and enough water to create a creamy texture (about 3 cups) 6. Cook down for another 15-45 minutes on low heat and serve with rice and cilantro for garnish ........................................................ Redwoods, California - Van Life in a 1988 Westfalia Vanagon

07:00
We dreamt of driving to the Redwoods - some of the world's largest trees - the second we found out we would be getting a Peace Vans Westfalia Vanagon for 2 weeks. It was a bit of a long drive from Seattle, but seeing these beautiful and enormous Redwood trees was our favorite part of our entire West Coast road trip. This video gives you another glimpse into the normal aspects of van life from long drive days to our minimal morning routine (aka meditation and cleaning) plus cooking in the van. Rewatching this video now got me super sentimental for that hike we did to the Boy Scout Tree. The light dancing in between each of the gigantic Redwoods, the utter silence of being on the trail alone, and one of the perfect days on the trip where it didn't rain while we were out adventuring. If you get to the chance to go to California and see these trees don't miss it for anything! #westfalia #redwoods #vanagon ......................... Inktober 2018: Day 25 - Van Life Edition

02:43
In our Inktober Day 25 video, we drive all the way to Porto!! Ever since we started exploring Portugal in our van, everyone made sure that Porto was part of our itinerary. But when I was planning our Inktober travels, I ran out time and didn't get to research the city very much. So upon our arrival, I started browsing to see what would be the best first experience with the city that also was a great scene to draw and landed on Clérigos Tower. In this illustration, I tried to balance a tricky perspective plus the height of the tower. I'm so excited to go back to the city tomorrow and explore more of what Porto has to offer! Home (Snippet 23)

02:50
There is something so special about returning home. Whether you've been gone for a weekend, for months, or even for years, coming back to where you grew up is unlike anything else. When we lived in NYC, Lou and I would often take the train out to visit my family in Connecticut and would always make time to get to the beach. This place holds so many of my dearest memories. From time I spent there building sand castles with my brothers, to where I went to my first summer camp, to where I later worked as a camp counselor. I've run town 5ks here, had birthday breakfasts here, countless hours spent walking with my mother... but this week when we drove in as the sun was rising I felt like I was seeing it with new eyes. I'm not sure if it's the meditating that we've been doing over the past 6 months, or maybe just how I've matured spending time abroad, but either way being able to slow down and take in this moment and realize how fortunate I was to grow up with access to beauty like this makes me feel even more excited to be spending the holidays at home. So for this week's question: What is your beach? Where do you go to clear your mind? To feel connected? ........................................................ 1988 Westfalia Vanagon - Day in the Life (Winter Camping)

07:07
This video gives a glimpse into our normal day in van life while we were living in this 1988 Westfalia Vanagon this past December during the middle of winter in the Pacific Northwest - all thanks to the guys at Peace Vans! Winter camping can be really tough as it's freezing and there are mornings you wake up and the van is literally frozen shut. But we found that with our propane heater, lots of warm layers, and a good attitude you can take in the peaceful surroundings in a completely different way because there aren't any other people around. The quiet and calmness that we enjoyed while exploring the Hoh Rainforest is something I will never forget. Also, the beach that is featured in the middle of the video is Ruby Beach and it is one of the southern beaches in the coastal section of Olympic National Park in the state of Washington. I definitely want to try our this road trip again though sometime in the summer. Who knows, maybe we should do a van trip across all of America one day!? Starting A Travel Journal

10:33
I am so happy that I finally started my very first travel journal! This has been a project that I've wanted to start ever since I completed Inktober. I loved the daily commitment of that drawing challenge, but couldn't find the time to keep it up. A travel journal seemed like the perfect solution for me. With just a few simple art supplies (listed below) and a bunch of memories from our travels in Barcelona, I spent a few hours making my first entry. I have admired so many other people's art journals and travel journals for months now and am so happy that I have one of my very own. Journaling is such a great way to reflect on experiences, get your creative juices going, and I think that this will be the perfect addition to my van life experiences through Europe. This Travel Journal series is going to be kind of like a visual podcast so if you have any ideas for topics I can chat with you about in the future please leave a comment :) And thanks for all your support no matter where our creative journey takes us. How is your Inktober going?? We're almost halfway there and Lou and I can't really believe how much we've packed into the last 11 days. Goodbye Alfie

08:48
We met a woman recently who says that animals pick you, you don't pick them... I'm not sure if she is right, but all I know is that our time spent on the top of the mountain in Casares building our van will always be defined by the companionship, love, and entertainment from our life with Alfie. He was a wild spirit from the moment we met him, running free in the mountains, chasing donkeys, barking through the night, but as time progressed he became part of our little family. Waking up each morning he was right there waiting for the day's adventure. The excitement he had when we walked back up to the cottage from the donkey pen, with the hopes that I would continue the walk and go for a big loop up in the hills was one of the cutest things in the world. He made us feel needed and the thing I've realized on the road is how much I needed him. He made tough times during the build a joy and as we've slowly become more adjusted to the road and seen so many other van dwellers with their beautiful pups in tow... well who knows how things will shake out in our future? Thank you for being part of the journey with us. This was a bit of an emotional video and I hope you can understand why not taking Alfie with us right now (while painful) is the right choice for our lifestyle. Making Calabash Bowls in Guadeloupe

Looking back, this video feels a world away, but I really think we did capture a bit of that beautiful day, the wind in the trees, the warm air rising up over the hill, and our beautiful airbnb hostess, who didn't want to be in the video but nonetheless showed us how to make these awesome bowls! To The Lighthouse (Sketchbook Stories 1)

02:42
Don't let age make you feel like you can't start a new creative endeavor because there will never be a day when you feel 100% ready whether your 11 or 88. Starting something new is always a mixture of excitement and hesitation. Like so many wise creatives out there who have come to this realization- no one has ever made what you can make, so stop trying to be perfect and just start doing what makes you feel alive. If you want to be a writer, write. Musician, practice your instrument. Artists, don't stop painting. I hope this video is the reminder that we all need to not let fear stop us from doing all the things we dream about doing :) . After months of talking about wanting to share my journey of becoming an artist on this channel, we finally made it happen today. My little brother is here visiting, our van is broken, there's a heatwave moving through Portugal, which means we filmed and edited this video in heat over 95 F, BUT I am so happy that we pushed through and turned this incredible adventure into the first Sketchbook Stories. I got to share the experience with two of my favorite people in the world. Two men who support me better than I could have ever envisioned and I am so grateful they could be here to help and witness the start of this new chapter. See you next Sunday for the second video in the Sketchbook Stories series. All my love, Dana #vanlife #creative #learningtodraw #sketchbook ........................................................ How to Make Banana "Nice" Cream Without a Fancy, Expensive Blender! (Snippet 11)

03:23
A few weeks ago our blender broke : ( And for us it was pretty unfortunate as it is our most used kitchen appliance. Think smoothies, cashew sour cream, avocado cilantro sauce, etc. So it was pretty tragic especially in the summer months when making smoothies bowls is a staple of our morning. Well! Luckily for us we had an immersion blender hiding in the back of our cabinets (thanks to Lou's dad!!!) So we decided to try to make banana ice cream with it and it worked better than our blender did. So yes, definitely worth trying! Or worth investing in an immersion blender as they are way cheaper than something like a Vitamix or a Blendtec and do the job perfectly. Hope you enjoyed the video! Let us know what type of ice cream is your favorite :) ........................................................ Best Camping Trip of Our Lives (Snippet 12)

06:39
When Dana's younger brother David decided to come Europe for his summer vacation, we thought that taking him somewhere with a mix of natural beauty and adventure would make for the perfect trip. So after much research, Lou decided on going to southern Germany and explore Berchtesgaden and Königssee (about a 2 hour train ride from Munich). We can't recommend this place enough! It was beautiful, quaint, and was filled to the brim with places to explore. Our only regret is that we couldn't have stayed longer! But we will definitely be revisiting once we get our van next year :) Thank you Dave for coming to visit us! You were the catalyst we needed to get all our camping gear in order and now we are set for so many more adventures. ........................................................ The Van Tour: Before the Renovation (Van Build - Part 1)

06:02
Why are we ripping out everything from inside our van? Lou and I give 10 reasons in this video for our van demolition, but I realized we forgot one huge thing - maybe even the most important. We want the chance to build a home from scratch, with every detail being our own. Every cabinet perfectly built for the size of our things and our needs. Ody might be big for a car, but as a home he is quite small, so we want to craft every inch of the space into the most functional and beautiful it can possibly be. There are moments here in Spain where I just have to stop and look around and really take in the fact the the van build is finally here. That we even own a van is a miracle!!!! And now we get to share the whole journey with you and it makes it that much sweeter :) Thank you for all your love and support! Hope you enjoy this week's extra video. Architecture in Barcelona - A Day of Antoni Gaudi

07:29
Enter offer code "WILDWEROAM" at Squarespace.com for 10% off your first purchase, or visit: http://squarespace.com/wildweroam . . If someone asked me what would be the best itinerary if you only had one day in Barcelona I would hands-down say exploring the many buildings and parks of the world-famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi is your best bet. In this video we start at his most famous accomplishment - La Sagrada Familia, then work our way up towards the Gracia neighborhood to experience Park Güell. An incredible public park with some of the best views of the entire city. Next, we explored Casa Vicens which was his first large commission. And finally, we finished the day with sunset on the roof of Casa Mila also known as La Pedrera. We got a chance to learn so much about Gaudi but also about the history of Barcelona through the well-curated exhibits, especially at Casa Vicens (which only opened a year and a half ago!). We are planning on making another video about our Top 10 Favorite Things to Do in Barcelona and can't wait to show you more of the city where Lou and I fell in love. VLOG 12 - Cheap Potato Recipes ($3 a Day - Vegan - Part 4)

07:06
https://www.wildweroam.com/livingonless/ If you're looking for all the recipes for the meals we cooked up this week stay tuned as they will be coming in our ebook in early April.... We cannot believe that we're already going into our fourth week of living vegan on 3 euros a day. We decided to change up our routine (rice & beans) and instead focus on the wonderful potato this week. Seriously this vegetable is so versatile... we topped pizza with it, made french fries, potato latkes, and a fancy stir-fry. Somehow our video ended up taking on a bit of food politics this week... why is it that so many people rely on fast food? Why do we live in a society that fears carbs? Lou ended up buying a tiny portion of french fries at our local currywurst stand for 1.40. Just for comparison, we bought a 5kg bag of potatoes for 1.42. I bet a lot of you watching our videos don't buy fast food, and probably spend a lot more time in the kitchen than the majority of Americans, but we figured it was worth reflecting on this price discrepancy anyway. Fast food is really just that - food you can get really fast. And obviously there are things like food desserts and not everyone has access to affordable produce... and for some people making the time is truly impossible with multiple jobs/kids/etc - but for most people watching this video an effort can be made to stop eating take out and get in to the kitchen more often - if only to save yourself a ton of money :) We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more. If you have any questions or suggestions for us please leave us a comment below! We absolutely love hearing from you and can't wait to share more. ........................................................ Inktober 2018: Day 13 - Van Life Edition (Monsanto Portugal)

05:06
Inktober is transforming our van life experience and turning October into the best month of our lives. And while creating this much content can be exhausting, especially for Lou who is doing a LOT of extra work when it comes to all these edits, managing the Instagram, the newsletter, etc... the freedom I feel to just be pursuing my art has brought a lightness into our life that I can feel when I watch these movies Lou makes every other day. We sit on top of mountains writing poetry together to be the soundtrack to the day's video and the gratitude sinks in knowing this is the life we have built. Writing this out feels a touch cliche, but sometimes when life feels this good it's hard not to be corny. I hope you enjoy this one. Looking at the old footage Lou found in our archive made me super emotional and determined to keep pursuing our dream to tell the best and bravest stories we can.
