Developing 35mm Color Film at Home: Tetenal Colortec C-41 (Snippet 30)

09:13
People have been recommending we start developing film at home for so long and we've heard you in the comments and are so grateful for that extra push to try something new!! Before we got started, Lou did a lot of research and with the help of great video's like our friend Ed's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmw08MYXmm4&t=588s) he was able to figure out which supplies we would need to build our little home development station. We haven't made a film video in a long time as we were a bit frustrated with having to outsource this part of the process and are so happy that we finally got around to figuring out how to own the full process now. It's cheaper, more fun, and you have way more control of the end result. We also put up a blog post with a bunch of the photos from this roll so if you want to see them check out http://plantbasedtraveler.com/film-photography/ We're so inspired to get back out into Berlin and start shooting film again, so stay tuned because February we have a fun series coming your way :) Question of the Week: Last week's video was all about The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and a few people mentioned that it would be fun to share what books we are reading in the comments, so.... let's start! Right now I'm reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami and Lou is reading Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa. Can't wait to hear what you have on your shelf! ........................................................ How to Scan and Organize 35mm Film Negatives (Snippet 16)

03:53
We got a lot of questions about this so we thought we'd make a quick little tutorial on how we scan and organize our 35 film negatives. It's a pretty simple system once you set it up and it's been working really well for us so hopefully someone else will find this useful! ........................................................ How to Shoot 35mm Film (Story 1)

15:08
Film Camera: Canon A1 with a 50mm f/1.4 Canon lens -- FujiColor Superia 200 Video Camera: Canon 5D3 with a 35mm Summicron F2 (1970) Leica lens This is our first STORY in our new Snippet/Story style and we are so very excited to share it with you. This week we tried to weave the beautiful experience of film photography with a bit of a how-to-video with the hopes of inspiring you to get out and capture your environment. The entire experience of shooting film from choosing your film stock, to manually loading the film, to the sexy sound of winding the film after each photo, well it all just begs you to slow down, to focus on the moment at hand, and take it all in and then... the most important part... to stay present. No checking how the photo turned out, no re-taking the selfie, not even the need to see how many likes it got. Nope, a film camera gives you the luxury of hoping that you captured the moment and letting that be enough. And while I can go on and on about the lessons that film has already taught me - and this was just my first roll ! - the main thing that making this story taught me is how lucky I am to have a partner as patient and thoughtful as Lou! His work ethic is unlike anyone I have ever met and the passion he pours into creating these beautiful moments each week never ceases to amaze me. I'm grateful for this week's video for reminding me of time spent: hanging at second hand camera stores, capturing special moments with dear friends, and enjoying perfect moments of summer when you feel surrounded by love. How to See All of Paris in One Day

04:31
We walked past 18 of the biggest tourist sites in Paris and it ended up being over 18 miles. It definitely made our feet sore, but it was so, so worth it! Getting acquainted with a new city while traveling can be difficult sometimes! How much can you fit into one day? We decided the best way to get to know Paris would be to walk it on foot, so we enlisted our new friend Emy, her Youtube name is Antastesia (check out her YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/Apn9a) who knew the city so well as our guide for the day. If you have any questions about our itinerary feel free to comment below! Sites: 1. Sacré-Cœur 2. Moulin Rouge 3.Galeries Lafayette 4.Opéra - Palais Garnier 5. Place Vendôme 6. We Got Married - Part 1! (Story 5)

07:59
This is the most beautiful video Lou has ever made. It captures the wedding festivities so perfectly. We both feel so lucky to have shared this special moment in our lives with some of our dearest family and friends. It also just seems so perfect that we were able to incorporate our favorite things into the weekend, like serving Cinnamon Snail catering (all vegan!!), cinematography (huge huge shout out to Annie, Sean, and David for helping us out so much!) and photography (thank you so much John for serving as our stand in wedding photographer!). We feel so lucky that our guests could be a part of all the things that matter to us and now to get to share these memories on our channel feels so right :) But most important of all I want to thank my HUSBAND! So crazy to type those words, but how incredible it feels to let the world know that this man will be my partner for the rest of time. I am so lucky to have such a hard working, talented creative as my other half. And of course a huge thank you to all of you who stick with us each and every week. We love you all more than you know and can't wait to keep sharing more adventures with you as the weeks go on. We felt so incredible reading all of your well wishes on last weeks video and it made us even more excited to keep on creating. London 35mm Film Shoot - Portraits of Strangers (Snippet 20)

05:33
Every roll of 35mm film I shoot on our Canon A-1 turns into an adventure. I try to think up goals for each roll, whether it's capturing a new city, or focusing on light, or my consistent goal of getting things in focus!! Well, this roll was a mix of a bunch of things and hope you stick around through the whole video because the second half gets interesting as we take to the street and start talking up strangers in London :) Ever since our first film video where I took portraits of a bunch of our friends here in Berlin, I've been wanting to do more of just that - getting in front of people and trying to capture the energy of the moment. While I am still getting my feet underneath me as a hobby photographer, this was such a fun way to push my limits. And for this week's question for the lovely souls who read these video descriptions: What is something this year that you've done that was out of your comfort zone?? #shootfilm #35mmfilm #takingportraitsofstrangers ....................................................... Camping Trip 35mm Film Edition, Shooting Kodak Portra Film (Snippet 15)

06:50
One of our favorite things is exploring and when you pair that with practicing my new photography hobby, well its a magical combination for Snippet 15. Even though I start off this video saying that this is our second photo tutorial... it didn't quite turn out like a tutorial, and that is okay! I think it's easy to focus on the steps it takes to learn something new -- like learning the grammar of a new language, or in this case the right f-stop/shutter speed for the light or how to focus precisely -- however the most important part of learning something new is PRACTICE! You aren't going to become a flexible yogi overnight or the next Picasso by watching one youtube tutorial. It takes hours upon hours of consistent practice to master anything. So we thought that sharing another video with me taking photos and Lou giving me tips and tricks along the way would be the perfect thing to inspire you to get out and practice whatever you are trying to learn right now!! For example, this time around we learned that a 160 film ISO is a little slow for shooting in the woods, and that it's really hard to capture the beauty of a hiking trail in front of you because it never seems to look quite as good as when you're there. And with that - the new weekly description question for those of you who are still reading :) What skills/hobbies are you working on right now? What is the best way you've found to keep practicing the things you want to improve on? Thank you for watching, for reading, and for joining us here. It means the world to Lou and I to connect with each of you and we're so grateful for your continued support. Our Trip to Portugal (Story 4)

07:25
Our trip to Portugal felt like a minute and a year.... When Lou and I snuck away to Portugal, I had no idea how meaningful the time away from Berlin would end up being. There's something so special about getting time to unplug, pick up a good book, and really unwind. Not to mention that it was actually the first time since I met Lou over 6 years ago that we actually took a proper vacation as a couple. We have had the amazing opportunity to travel extensively together, but it has always been with our families, so to go away for an entire week and have a whole house to ourselves - well I have to admit we felt like real adults!! Now that we find ourselves back in Berlin, though, the hint of color my skin got while the sun shone for 6 hours is fading, and I can feel my craving for Vitamin D coming back, this trip was the perfect reminder of how much we enjoy spending time together, in nature, and I know that wherever life brings us whether that is into a van, or into a cabin, or who knows really, I will most definitely be happy because the person I love will be by my side. And for those of you who read these little descriptions - the question of the week is.... what book are you currently reading? ........................................................ The Birds of Berlin (Snippet 2)

04:07
This Sunday we took a page out of Jacob Lund Fisker's ERE book and decided to learn the name of 5 birds in our area. We started out with some easy ones, but it was still a challenge! This video was shot in Tiergarten over the course of one day. P.S. Dana got loads of compliments on those homemade binoculars! We shot a little intro building them but the footage got corrupted but it's a pretty simple design: two rolls of toilet paper cardboard, an empty box of matches, some super glue and twine. ........................................................ The Power of Now (Story 7)

05:04
The Power of Now... have you read it? I hadn't read this book until last year and it set off an insane binge of introspective non-fiction titles after I finished it including: "Radical Self Acceptance" by Tara Brach, "Breaking Open the Head" by Daniel Pinchbeck, "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg, "Early Retirement Extreme" by Jacob Lund Fisker, and "A New Earth" also by Eckhart Tolle. And during the time I started reading all these different titles, we started meditating. And like Lou talked about in this Story, it really did change everything for both of us. I found myself less anxious, connecting to the joy in the little moments - even just walking to the grocery store or watering our plants - and I even realized I was much better at being present for those around me. And while introspection and meditation is definitely not a cure all for everything, I found that by connecting deeper to myself, I was able to free myself of a lot of the anxiety that didn't serve me. By shifting my focus to the present moment, life really started to blossom in front of my eyes. So my question for the week for you lovely readers is how do you practice being present? What is your form of meditation? Your favorite self-care tips? Mental health is such an important topic that can easily get pushed under the rug and I want to make sure each of you reading this knows how much you matter to us and how we hope you make the time take care of yourself! Oh, and if you're in Berlin and want to get a tattoo please hit up our awesome friend Eva! https://www.instagram.com/evadawn_illustrations/ Lots of love, Dana ........................................................ My First Tattoo (Snippet 21)

03:55
A huge thank you to Rafael (instagram.com/silveiratattooer/) for taking care of Lou and giving him this incredible tattoo! I have to say I think I was more nervous than Lou and also for my filming debut - so happy that the footage turned out so we can have this day memorialized forever :) Since I met Lou over 5 years ago he's been thinking about getting a tattoo and for the longest time it was just that - a thought. But then a few months back, Lou was looking at AKA's instagram - a tattoo shop here in Berlin ( https://www.instagram.com/akaberlin/) and saw that Rafael was going to be visiting from Rio. Well... it didn't take long for Lou to realize that this was the style he'd been dreaming of and it was finally the right time to make the leap and get INKED!!! The other amazing thing is that Rafael is vegan too!! So Lou was able to get a tattoo with vegan ink :) Hope you guys enjoy this little snippet from our Sunday afternoon. As for the question of the week: Anyone else have tattoos out there? Anyone been thinking of getting one for a while? Any funny stories about getting a tattoo?? We're still getting the hang of this new style so bear with us as we keep evolving each week ; ) The quote in the beginning is one of our favorites, it's by Vladimir Nabokov and goes "Curiosity is insubordination in it's purest form. VLOG 05: Easy Vegan Veggie Curry Recipe

02:59
Making delicious vegan food does not need to be intimidating, expensive, or scary! So many times people have told me, if I could cook like you do I would be happy to eat vegan food all the time! Well, it's time we start teaching you how we get all the yummy food we feature in our instagram. Starting today, we are going to start sharing more recipes here on our channel with the hopes to inspire you to get into the kitchen and starting experimenting. Making vegetables the focus of a meal can be a very new experience for some, but with a little experience in the spice department and once you have gotten comfortable chopping up tons of vegetables, I promise it really is not that hard. Please feel free to share any recipes you want to see us make, any of your go-to veggie meals, and any other feedback in the comments below. RECIPE: Vegan Veggie Coconut Curry serves 8-10 with rice (or two people for 4 meals!) 4 onions diced 5 carrots diced 12 potatoes boiled and diced 2 boxes mushrooms (200 g each) 1 large can chickpeas 1 jar or bag of sundried tomatoes either in oil or just dried 1 can diced tomatoes 1 can coconut milk 6 big handfuls spinach 1 two inch cube of ginger finely diced 1 entire head of garlic finely diced (it sounds like a lot but it's delicious!) curry powder paprika 1. Add potatoes to large pot of boiling water, cook until they are done about 20 minutes 2. Saute onions for 15 minutes in a tbsp of coconut oil 2. Add carrots, ginger and garlic, stir and cook for 10 minutes 3. Add 2 tbsp of curry powder, 2 tbsp paprika, chickpeas, coconut milk, tomato, sundried tomato and cook for 5-8 minutes 4. Add spinach and stir and wait until it has cooked down (about 2 minutes) and then add half of the diced potatoes 5. Use a hand-blender to blend to a consistency you like then add the rest of the potatoes and diced mushrooms and enough water to create a creamy texture (about 3 cups) 6. Cook down for another 15-45 minutes on low heat and serve with rice and cilantro for garnish ........................................................ Whiplash

01:46
Right now life feels like a crazy, beautiful, intense blur. Zipping from one place to the next, building memories, meeting friends, then saying goodbye all over again, waking up some mornings unsure of where we parked the van the night before, or what country we're even in. I decided to try and intercut some of the last years footage to give you an idea of the feeling of whiplash Dana and I are experiencing. Memories, Birthdays, Celebrations in Hastings (Snippet 19)

02:01
Lou and I have been reflecting a lot lately on how much Plant Based Traveler has pushed us to grow as individuals and as a couple. And one of the things that we most often return to in these discussions is the fact that we have been able to meet such incredible people during our travels. So this week's video we thought we'd walk a little bit down memory lane and share with you some moments that stand out for us like this year, making pancakes with Fran (from @Frannerd) and Ed (from @edpavez) in Hastings! And while I really don't think that birthday's need to be extravagant or the most special day of the year, they are an amazing way to mark time. So this October, turning 26 years old, I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with Lou every day creating our videos that hopefully inspire you, but also serve as the most incredible scrapbook of our life that I know 20, 30, 40 years from now we will have so much fun looking back on all these memories. Oh, and sorry about my voice in this video --- I've come down with a horrendous cold - like in bed for 4 days straight kind of sick!! So for this week's questions for the lovely ones who keep reading my little rambles: If you could invite anyone to your birthday dinner, who would you invite? A Vantastic Summer Plan : )

02:34
Hello!! We've been working so hard the last few months, and especially the last two weeks, on a big commercial project and we finally finished it yesterday!! So I am quite proud of Lou for making sure this video went up today, as my recommendation was definitely to take this week off so he could rest a little from editing - but this man is all about consistent creative content!! Question of the Week: I think I asked enough questions in the video, but here it is... we're planning on spending the summer in Portugal and would so appreciate any tips you have for our travels. We love to tell unique stories, especially ones that center on a passionate person explaining their craft. Hope you enjoy it and thank you in advance for all the travel tips :) Love, Dana (& Lou) ........................................................ VLOG 09: Living on 3 Dollars a Day - Part 1

05:20
https://www.wildweroam.com/livingonless/ So this video is just the start of a month long (really life long) project that Lou and I started today. It is all about living on less with the goal that if we spend less money on things, we'll have more money in our pockets to do. For Christmas Lou got the book Extreme Early Retirement by Jacob Lund Fisker and it really set us into motion on how to think more deliberately about the way money flows in and out of our lives. (If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!!) As you can tell by the videos were making, dedicating ourselves to this creative pursuit is our dream job. We want to be making creative projects that not only sustain our soul, but also feed us and we decided that there was something that we could do to help ourselves get self-sufficient sooner rather than later and that was to tighten our budget. This month we are dedicated to reducing our food budget to just 3 euros a day. The 3 euros is for everything that we spend the entire month - no extra spending money outside of food either! Granted our bills are paid and we have cleaning supplies and other toilettes already purchased, so that just leaves us with trying to create the most joyous March possible :) We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more. If you have any questions or suggestions for us please leave us a comment below! We absolutely love hearing from you and can't wait to share more. ........................................................ We Have A Visitor!

08:54
You might already know from the new Sketchbook Stories series, or our newsletter/insta, but if not last week my little brother came to visit us all the way from California and get his first taste of #VANLIFE!! The trip really couldn't have come at a better time because with Ody breaking down and needing a week at the mechanic to get a new water pump, we were homeless!! David showed up with a huge rental van and we got to explore the #Algarve and Costa Vicentina together. It really was a trip of a lifetime which meant capturing all the little moments was quite difficult. After he left I realized I hadn't filmed meeting him, him leaving, most of our daily adventures, and turns out that is okay because Lou is an editing master and can still capture the feeling of the trip with so little footage to work with. Really hope you like this one Dave!!! Miss you already. Can't wait for you to join the team one day :) Love from #Portugal, Dana (& Lou) ........................................................ To The Lighthouse (Sketchbook Stories 1)

02:42
Don't let age make you feel like you can't start a new creative endeavor because there will never be a day when you feel 100% ready whether your 11 or 88. Starting something new is always a mixture of excitement and hesitation. Like so many wise creatives out there who have come to this realization- no one has ever made what you can make, so stop trying to be perfect and just start doing what makes you feel alive. If you want to be a writer, write. Musician, practice your instrument. Artists, don't stop painting. I hope this video is the reminder that we all need to not let fear stop us from doing all the things we dream about doing :) . After months of talking about wanting to share my journey of becoming an artist on this channel, we finally made it happen today. My little brother is here visiting, our van is broken, there's a heatwave moving through Portugal, which means we filmed and edited this video in heat over 95 F, BUT I am so happy that we pushed through and turned this incredible adventure into the first Sketchbook Stories. I got to share the experience with two of my favorite people in the world. Two men who support me better than I could have ever envisioned and I am so grateful they could be here to help and witness the start of this new chapter. See you next Sunday for the second video in the Sketchbook Stories series. All my love, Dana #vanlife #creative #learningtodraw #sketchbook ........................................................ The Best Weekend Ever with Frannerd + Ed Pavez! (Story 3)

17:07
Getting to sit down with Fran (@Frannerd) and Ed (@edpavez) was truly the best way I could have imagined spending my 26th birthday. They were so open and honest with Lou and I that it actually felt like the four of us had been friends for years. There is something so powerful about getting to connect with like-minded people - whether we were chatting about drawing or cameras, or living far from home or giggling over beer and the best vegan tacos, they made us feel so at home - so Fran and Ed if you're reading this thank you!!! It was also so special for Lou and I to get to meet creatives who are truly making their dreams a reality - figuring out a way to financially support yourself in any creative field can sometimes feel impossible and the fact that they're doing it had Lou and I super inspired. Since moving abroad Fran has started making her YouTube videos in English, become a published author, opened an Etsy shop and soon to have a signed a contract with a UK-based literary agent. And the last few years have been huge for Ed too! He's transitioned from a time in his life where he was working so many different jobs at once, which from the outside seemed like a complete success story; however, from the inside, Ed felt completely distracted from his main goal - to pursue writing full-time. I don't want to spoil the video if you haven't watched yet... so go watch and you'll get to see how special this journey to Europe has been for these two Chileans. I think part of this whole Hastings experience that I will cherish most is how much they respected and supported one another. Sometimes when you think of the stereotypical creative type, you can imagine crazy fighting and raging emotions that fuel the creative process, but the only thing that we felt when we were there was unconditional love. Whether it was Fran talking about how she moved to Germany entirely to support Ed's dreams of working in the Berlin theater scene or Ed talking about passing up huge opportunities in Mexico to let Fran pursue her dream of getting published in the UK, well it is just incredible to have the opportunity to get to know individuals of this caliber. I know this video is a bit on the longer side and maybe some of you who are new the channel aren't used to our personal story style, but getting back into the personal narrative shorts that we used to make while we traveled in Peru and in NYC made me super excited about all the potential this channel has to capture powerful stories. And for this week's question for those of you who read these blurbs: - If you could ask Fran and Ed one more question what would it be? ........................................................ Lou just finished the edit and its 9:12 on Tuesday night and I asked him how he's feeling and despite being exhausted from pushing through way more than is humanely possible to accomplish get this video out on time, he is sad. Sad to be ending this streak of videos we've created, sad to be taking a break from YouTube, but to be honest there is also a great deal of joy inside us that comes from letting go. We know that with space from our second home here on the internet there will be a great deal of time to move towards our dreams. We're Staying in Portugal!

09:02
Our time in Lisbon was filled with life - new faces, new sites, new restaurants, but it was also filled with many sweaty days and nights, little sleep, and zero routine. I think that is one of the best parts of #vanlife. That you can create this intense experience - building a life in a city in just two weeks - and then in just a moment, you can drive away to build another. One based on lazy mornings and ocean swims. You can just dream up a reality and then chase it immediately. Change your plan whenever you want. And if we're doing it correctly we can take the time to listen to exactly what we need to find fulfillment and then go after it without hesitation. #Portugal has been our playground all summer, and after much debate on if we should push on with our plan to explore northern Spain in the autumn months, we've changed our minds and are staying here in this country that has given us so much. We can't wait to share the adventures to come. Big hugs, Dana (&Lou) ........................................................ MUSIC 30 Day Free Trial for Epidemic Sound - http://share.epidemicsound.com/pl2WQ Switching to Epidemic Sound - a royalty free music library - for all our videos has been such a gamechanger. Many of our most viewed videos on our channel ended up with copyright claims and no longer can make any ad revenue. This was actually a substantial part of our YouTube income stream and we can't get those claims removed even though we received full authorization from every artist to use their songs. Best Camping Trip of Our Lives (Snippet 12)

06:39
When Dana's younger brother David decided to come Europe for his summer vacation, we thought that taking him somewhere with a mix of natural beauty and adventure would make for the perfect trip. So after much research, Lou decided on going to southern Germany and explore Berchtesgaden and Königssee (about a 2 hour train ride from Munich). We can't recommend this place enough! It was beautiful, quaint, and was filled to the brim with places to explore. Our only regret is that we couldn't have stayed longer! But we will definitely be revisiting once we get our van next year :) Thank you Dave for coming to visit us! How to Make Banana "Nice" Cream Without a Fancy, Expensive Blender! (Snippet 11)

03:23
A few weeks ago our blender broke : ( And for us it was pretty unfortunate as it is our most used kitchen appliance. Think smoothies, cashew sour cream, avocado cilantro sauce, etc. So it was pretty tragic especially in the summer months when making smoothies bowls is a staple of our morning. Well! Luckily for us we had an immersion blender hiding in the back of our cabinets (thanks to Lou's dad!!!) So we decided to try to make banana ice cream with it and it worked better than our blender did. So yes, definitely worth trying! Or worth investing in an immersion blender as they are way cheaper than something like a Vitamix or a Blendtec and do the job perfectly. Hope you enjoyed the video! Van Life Begins... kind of (Snippet 37)

02:36
Here is a short trailer of all the videos from our first van adventure including some wonderful 35 mm film videos coming your way soon! We haven't done a short video in a long time and I'm so happy we have Snippets back in our life. It is really fun to share glimpses into this first van adventure with you. I can't explain how many emotions we had during this trip. I have to say with almost two weeks living fulltime in the van you really do feel everything. From fear that the car won't start again after cops pull you over at 6 in the morning, to waking up in a new city and it sinking in that this is really going to be our "normal" life, to having to pee so badly in the middle of the night and wishing it wasn't raining outside, to pure bliss of eating cereal with coconut rice milk while cozily tucked into your sleeping bag (I know it sounds like such a small thing, but those breakfasts "in bed" weirdly were one of my favorite parts of the trip...) When we were driving back from Prague I started making a list in my journal of all the memories I had from the trip that I didn't want to forget and the list just kept growing and growing. Seriously, the amount of memories that we made in less than two weeks has me blissfully exhausted. There's something about the slight discomfort that is living in a van that pushed us to live each day so fully - once we were out of the van and had taken the tram 30 minutes in to the city we weren't coming back and that meant we saw so much (and FILMED so much) and I can't wait to see how Lou edits it all into the rest of this series. Van life has barely even begun and all the chaos of the process of getting here is already drifting away. With love, Dana ps Question of the Week: Do you think you could live in a van full-time? And if so what is one odd thing that you would definitely have to bring with you? My weird thing is probably makeup... I don't know why because I literally never wear it, but it's one of those things that I strangely like to have with me just in case I ever want to get all fancy (which seriously happens maybe once a year) But I have a feeling that when we do our final proper downsizing it won't make the cut :) Thank you for watching, for reading, and for joining us here. It means the world to Lou and I to connect with each of you and we're so grateful for your continued support. ........................................................ Lisbon in 24 Hours

05:56
#Vanlife in a city is a completely different experience. There is so much to see and do and we're spending many many hours away from Ody, which is a completely different daily routine from our weeks on the southern coast of Portugal. Our time in #Lisbon has been so important for us when it comes to reconnecting with why we decided to live in a van in the first place. Inktober Zine Launch - We Have an eStore!

Guys!!!! OUR INKTOBER ZINE IS FINALLY HERE :):):) It is so surreal that our Inktober zines are finally available for purchase in our very own eStore! To buy your very own zine: https://wildweroam.com/store This zine is the first product that Lou and I have ever sold and it feels incredible to be starting a new chapter of our lives as entrepreneurs and creatives together. We even set up Wild We Roam as an LLC so things are getting super official around here :) Thank you for all of your support during this process not only throughout October as we were exploring Portugal, but also this past week as we went through some growing pains trying to figure out how to set up an e-commerce business. I feel like we're slowly getting the hang of this thing and I can't wait to expand our store in the near future with Lou's Grit Rock Necklaces. Inktober 2018: Day 25 - Van Life Edition

02:43
In our Inktober Day 25 video, we drive all the way to Porto!! Ever since we started exploring Portugal in our van, everyone made sure that Porto was part of our itinerary. But when I was planning our Inktober travels, I ran out time and didn't get to research the city very much. So upon our arrival, I started browsing to see what would be the best first experience with the city that also was a great scene to draw and landed on Clérigos Tower. In this illustration, I tried to balance a tricky perspective plus the height of the tower. I'm so excited to go back to the city tomorrow and explore more of what Porto has to offer! The Road to Peniche

04:11
#Vanlife shifts everything about the way you travel. No longer is your brain consumed with packing lists. Itineraries. Getting to the train station on time. Making sure to check in to your flight. It's funny how sometimes after staying put in one location for multiple days, I forget that we actually live in a van - with wheels - that can go places!!! #Vanlifeeuorpe is filled with places to see, so we can't forget to embrace the movement of this lifestyle. Getting from Cascais to Peniche was the perfect jolt to my system to remember that an adventure awaits every single day we move on the road. I hope you enjoy this one. Portugal's Anchor Cemetery - Cemitério das Âncoras

02:00
At Praia do Barril in Tavira, there's an anchor cemetery built from the rusted old anchors of a generation of fishermen whose livelihood was lost when they overfished the bluefin tuna that used to roam the sea in #Portugal. Cemitério das Âncoras, as it's known in Portuguese, is a startling sight, especially given that this environmental and social catastrophe occurred almost 70 years ago, and that within today's context of industrial fishing it's only a matter of a few decades before the world's oceans are completely barren and devoid of fish stocks. It was a strange but beautiful walk for the two of us, since the day before Ody (our van) had almost melted from the scorching temperatures in Sevilla en route to Portugal, and the very next day we spent a very hot afternoon sitting at a mechanic with a leaky water pump issue that would require leaving the van for a few days. Question of the week: Anyone know of any other interesting, off-the-beaten-path sights like this we could see in Portugal or northern Spain? If you have a recommendation outside these regions feel free to share as well, though it might be a while till we get there ; ) Un abrazo desde Portugal, Lou (& Dana) #hiddenportugal #visitportugal ........................................................ We Are Back! (Story 8)

16:42
We're BACK!! And it feels so good to be sharing a video with all of you! It wasn't the video we had imagined making, but it is perfect in it's own way - filled with so much love and hard work, but most of all so many precious details of our story. When I sat down to watch this video one last time before we pressed publish, my heart almost burst. The combination of our childhood stories, how we fell in love, the wedding, and just so many memories, filled me with such gratitude for all the gifts in my life - Lou being one of the most important. I feel so safe next to him and brave as well. Putting ourselves out there and sharing these intimate details of our life with the world can definitely be scary at times, but it feels so right to be creating here again on Youtube. So thank you for being patient and kind with us, waiting as we took time to regroup, recharge, and get ready for the biggest chapter of our lives! Stay tuned because Tuesday's are back - well no promises about the whole weekly thing, but we will do our best! ........................................................ First VLOG of 2016!

02:03
From now on we are going to be bringing you a new VLOG every Tuesday!! Like most people, the start of the new year inspired us to reflect on 2015. We are so proud of what we accomplished last year and can't believe how many incredible people and amazing places we were able to capture and share with you. But.... 2016 has even more in store! We want to take you with us as we explore Berlin. We've lived here for almost 2 years, but still don't really feel like we've put down roots because we've been on the road so much. So this year our goal is to get to know Berlin, the people, the streets, and so much more :) And we're so excited to bring you with us. ........................................................ Searching for Flamingos (Sketchbook Stories 2)

03:39
Learning to draw from life or #urbansketch is completely unlike the practice I did drawing faces from photographs on my computer while we were living in the cottage in Spain. Now there are no tutorials to check if I have a question... there are no tables to sit at and draw comfortably... and the hardest part is that I must keep my head in one spot because if I shift my position the drawing no longer reflects what I am looking at. Photographs condense the 3D world into 2D, making it easier to see lines and shapes. From life though you get so much more though even if it is more challenging! You see texture and light and you get to create the composition just by physically moving your body to alter your perspective. I'm becoming addicted to the peacefulness that comes from stopping to truly look at the world. Taking in the smells, the shadows, the different angles... sketching outdoors is helping me learn so much faster than I ever imagined. My goal this week is to draw something from life each day in my #sketchbook so that by the time we get to filming Sketchbook Stories 3 I will be more confident in my abilities than I was #drawing boats in the marsh this week. All my love, Dana PS Your response to the first Sketchbook Series was bigger and more supportive than I could have ever imagined. I feel so humbled to have you with me along for the ride and even more propelled to keep sharing this #artjourney because so many of you too are with me doing the exact same thing in your own life. I hope you find time this week to pursue your creative passions too even if it's just for 5 minutes a day! ........................................................ A Little History Lesson in Belem (Sketchbook Stories 4)

04:25
Another drawing video here in #Lisbon, though in this one the voice over and the footage are shockingly opposed. We spent the day exploring the monuments of #Belem, a neighborhood a little bit outside central Lisbon. I was a little hesitant to share at first because it feels so different than anything we've made before, but after thinking about how important learning to question the information I was given has been in changing the trajectory of my life, I knew I had to hit publish on this video. Sometimes you might think you are looking at a beautiful statue, but in reality, you're looking at a representation of human exploitation. I'm really curious if any of you have had similar moments to the ones I talked about in the video and how you were able to shift your worldview after realizing that you had been kept in the dark during so many years of your education. And on that note, I thought I'd bring back the question of the week: What ways do you think schools could do a better job of teaching young minds about the darker moments in history? We Left Berlin!

11:42
Happy New Year!! Lou and I have taken a little hiatus from Youtube and Instagram the past few weeks, but we're finally ready to share all that we've been up to. From moving out of Berlin to exploring Paris to even going to the Caribbean, the past two months have been quite a whirlwind. I'm excited to tell you that we finally feel completely recharged and ready to take on 2018. We have so much in the works for the next few months and can't wait to share all the projects with you. In this video we meet up with our friend Ammar, from the Youtube Channel Yes Theory. He along with a few other friends have built a platform that is changing the world every single week. They challenge their audience to go outside of their comfort zone, commit to their dreams, and we feel so lucky to have connected with them. Please check out their latest video - it won't let you down. https://www.youtube.com/user/PracProcrastination We also meet up with our dear friend Emy, who we first met a few years back when we came to Paris with my parents to celebrate my 25th birthday. Emy is one of the bravest people we know. She continues to put herself out there, challenging societal norms and expressing her political views regularly both in French and in English on her channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/Apn9a Rewatching our video was the perfect reminder to kick off two of my intentions for the new year - practicing gratitude and being present. I find myself feeling transported when I watch this style of Lou's videos with the beautiful montages of life's little moments, which seems strange because I was the one who actually lived through them. And while I think that learning to meditate in 2016 and continuing that practice in 2017 has helped me become much more focused on remembering to pull back into the present moment, I want to make an extra effort this year as we're traveling in the van meeting so many people, experiencing new things every day, to recognize my gifts in the moment and focus on the little beauties in life. ........................................................ Cruelty-Free Vegan Makeup with Fanny Maurer

When Fanny went vegan she had to change so much more than the food she ate! As a fashion make-up artist based in Paris, Fanny was accustomed to using name brand products that usually have been tested on animals. After a bit of research, she realized that finding ethical, cruelty-free products was not only super easy, but she was able to seamlessly incorpate the new products into her working life. Just last week we finally had the opportunity to go there in person, climb to the top, meet all the #monkeys, and enjoy the hard work we put in to make our van life a dream a reality. I can't put into words what it felt like to go on our first hike from the van. One of our biggest goals in the van was to spend more time in nature, and this hike made me feel like we had finally made that happen : ) Love from Faro, Dana (& Lou) #vanlife ........................................................ We Got Married - Part 2! (Story 6)

09:16
This is the last video in our three-part series about our wedding and I'm sure you'll agree that it is one of the most captivating videos that Lou has ever made. Before I write the descriptions I always watch the videos once or twice to get my head around what I want to say to describe the hours that Lou has condensed into a few moments we share and this week I was left with teary eyes and a huge smile. How can I put into words the most important day of my life thus far? Promising Lou that he was the man I want to spend the rest of my life with in front of so many of our closest family and friends was an experience that felt so much grander than I ever could have imagined. And it is moments like this when I am so beyond grateful that Lou's passion is creating gorgeous videos because I will forever have a living scrapbook of some of the most precious moments of our life together. On a different note, isn't it crazy to think about how many couples from all over the world have started their marriage just as we did - at City Hall in lower-Manhattan?? For some I'm sure they had close friends and family pouring into the small room like we did to take part in the magical ceremony. While others, like the couple Lou and I met in line from Manchester, turn up that day with only the love of their life hoping to meet a stranger who will be willing to come join them in this private moment to serve as the witness to their marriage. However a couple choses to celebrate this day in their life, all I can hope is that each person out there gets to feel the same amount love that I feel for Lou. Question of the Week: Have you ever been to New York City? What was your favorite part of the trip? And if you haven't been would you like to go? What would you like to do? ........................................................
