Breaking News - Liverpool chief reveals Anfield expansion plans
Liverpool still retain plans to develop the Anfield Road End and convert their home into a 60,000-seater stadium, according to chief executive Peter Moore. The Main Stand was developed in 2016 to add 10,000 seats to the club's home, but plans to further develop the ground have yet to take shape. But Moore insists the club have not given up hope of taking capacity beyond the current 54,074.He told Sky Sports:' As you know we have a permit for the Anfield Road end for September 2019 to add maybe another 6,000 seats which will bring us up to 60,000 here.'I also know from living here, for every Liverpool ticket there is 10 people who want to buy it.'We totally get what we need to do. We're going to do what we did with the Main Stand as an operating group, which is look at what we need to do in a measured manner.'Moore understands the need for Liverpool to keep pace with their Premier League rivals, with Tottenham set to move into their new 61,000 capacity stadium next season. At just under 55,000, Anfield's size still trails that of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal. He added: 'We'll look at what investment the ownership needs to put in. We're a fan-first organisation, I can re-assure people we're going to look at this on top of everything else we are doing.'As you know, we're leaving Melwood, we're consolidating to Kirkby, and we're focusing on using our capital very wisely and yes, we're looking very closely at Anfield Road expansion.' Breaking News - Pitch is laid at Tottenham's new stadium
Breaking News - Pitch is laid at Tottenham's new stadium #Tottenhams, #new, #stadium, #moves, #big, #step, #closer, #completion, #pitch, #laid Tottenham's new stadium has taken an enormous step towards completion with the delivery of the new pitch. The rolls of turf, which have been imported from Holland, arrived at the start of the week and are now being meticulously laid out as the new White Hart Lane arena begins to look more like home. Such is the club's attention to detail, members of the groundstaff have been based out in Holland for the past two months to ensure the surface arrived in pristine condition. The pitch is a hybrid of natural grass reinforced with polypropylene strands and is very similar to the playing surface at the old White Hart Lane. In an indication of the immense logistical operation involved, the turf is being transported to London in 23 refrigerated lorries over the next three days. Each roll of turf weighs 1.5 tonnes and has dimensions of 2.4m wide by 12m long. Specialised equipment is needed to unroll each strip of turf, with the club's webcams at the stadium showing work starting from the outside and then working into the centre. It will take up to four weeks for the turf to properly bed in and keeps Spurs on target to move into their new 62,062-capacity home for their Premier League fixture against Burnley on December 15. Earlier in the summer, three retractable trays were installed beneath the pitch. They will slide back underneath the stadium's south stand when NFL games are played on an artificial surface that has been placed underneath the grass. The last week of September saw the safe standing rails and seats installed into the home end of the stadium. Spurs were originally meant to move into the £850million stadium back in August but a series of delays pushed this back as they continued to play the bulk of their home fixtures at Wembley. They even had to play their third round Carabao Cup tie against Watford at Stadium MK last week. Spurs will be back at Wembley on Wednesday night when they host Barcelona in the Champions League. Breaking News - Ronaldinho's son joins Cruzeiro... but tried to 'HIDE identity'
Ronaldinho's son attempted to hide his identity during his trial with Brazilian side Cruzerio. The Brazilian icon's son, Joao Mendes, is just 13 but has been making waves while progressing through the youth ranks. He trialled with Paris Saint-Germain, one of his father's many clubs, at their training base in the Brazilian capital Brasilia before trying out for Cruzeiro, whose senior side play in the top flight. But, according to Brazilian outlet Globoesporte, Mendes wanted to gain his place in the side through meritocracy, rather than the club's top brass selecting him due to his father's name. Globo, who appear to have blown Mendes' cover, claim the youngster 'charmed the scouts' during his trial there but owing to the fact he is just 13, he is too young to sign a contract. Mendes is the son Janaina Nattielle Mendes, a former dancer who was married to the Barcelona great in 2004, but their marriage only lasted for two years and ended in 2007. His mother, however, is reportedly the one who decides Joao's future. The Cruzeiro trainee certainly appears to have been passed on some of his father's otherworldly footballing talent. Indeed, it is a story to keep a close eye on. Breaking News - Chelsea players take on speed guns in training
AutoNews- Chelsea players went up against speed guns in training on Thursday with Eden Hazard and Co testing out their dribbling skills and agility during a routine training session at Cobham. The Premier League champions were tasked with dribbling around cones as fast as possible with high-tech speed guns positioned to allow coaches to analyse and scrutinise their respective performances. It would have been a dream routine for Hazard, who is renowned for his dribbling skills and acceleration. But the Belgian is still working his way back to full fitness following an ankle break and may not have been at his very best.Tiemoue Bakayoko was also involved as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. The midfielder made his debut for the Blues against Tottenham last weekend and will be looking to reach peak condition soon. Both he and Hazard are likely to reach it in time to play in Chelsea's first Champions League tie, which, as they discovered on Thursday, will be a home game against Azerbaijan outfit and Champions League debutants Qarabag on September 12.The Blues, who return to Europe's premiere competition after a season out, were also drawn against Atletico Madrid and Serie A runners-up Roma in what represents a tough group considering they were a top seed. While Qarabag should represent six easy points for Antonio Conte's side, the Italian will not welcome the 5,800-mile round trip to Azerbaijan. But Conte's immediate attention will be on Sunday's tie against Stamford Bridge with the defending champions hoping to build on their impressive 2-1 win over Tottenham.Chelsea lost their opening game of the season against Burnley but can get their title defence back on track by beating Ronald Koeman's side, who themselves have impressed so far this season. -------------------------------------------------- Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4820916/Chelsea-players-speed-guns-training.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - Nasser Hussain: Shai Hope gives England selectors a lesson
AutoNews- That is one of the great turnarounds in cricket – and, arguably, in any sport. To walk off the field at Edgbaston having lost 19 wickets in a day, then come here and chase down 322, is a phenomenal effort. I doff my cap to West Indies. And what about Shai Hope? He came into this game averaging 18 in Tests, so if he had been English he would have been dropped ages ago. But the two hundreds he made here are a reminder that if you stick with someone for long enough, you never know what might happen.Kraigg Brathwaite, too, showed a lot of composure and character. These are two calm and mature young men.Given the events at Edgbaston, where West Indies were a rabble, it reflects even better on their efforts.England may look at Hope in particular and realise they must continue with their policy of giving batsmen a decent run.For that reason, Tom Westley should get another chance at Lord’s to prove that he is good enough at this level.West Indies stuck with their youngsters despite the flak they were getting and it has produced one of the greatest wins in their history.Much was made of West Indies’ white-ball players, going off to the IPL and leaving the Caribbean behind but the reaction when the winning runs were scored showed that the red-ball game means a lot to these youngsters. It’s great to see.As for England, I had no problem at all with Joe Root’s declaration on the fourth evening. In fact, I think he got it spot on.Previous captains would probably have batted on, but everyone expected the pitch to deteriorate, and Root had the likes of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad at his disposal — and Moeen Ali to bowl on a pitch we all thought might help him.Where England really lost this game was in scoring only 258 on the first day, and that stemmed from the inconsistency of their top order. It was always going to catch up with them at some point but nobody thought it would be now. Then, when they bowled, they were not full enough — which is a crime at Headingley. Perhaps they just took their eye off the ball a little.Lord’s suddenly becomes a huge game — which is brilliant for Test cricket. -------------------------------------------------- Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-4834350/Nasser-Hussain-Shai-Hope-gives-England-selectors-lesson.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - All Blacks Piutau and Halai want to play for Tonga in 2019
All Blacks Charles Piutau and Frank Halai want to switch their allegiance to Tonga — and face England at the World Cup.The Pacific Islanders want World Rugby to loosen the eligibility rules to allow capped players to return to tier-two nations. An identical policy has been introduced in rugby league and the Mail on Sunday understands Ma'a Nonu and Victor Vito could also make themselves available for Samoa under the proposals.'If there's a way to do it, I want to give something back and play for Tonga at the 2019 World Cup,' Piutau told the Mail on Sunday.Tonga are in the same pool as England for the World Cup.'I have told the Tongan coach I would be on board if there's a way to do it,' Piutau continued.'If our sport followed the rugby league model, it would be a massive boost for the Pacific Islands and it would make the world stage competitive again.'There's a lot of wasted talent. The rugby league boys put Tonga back on the map and union should do the same thing.'Piutau, 26, will become the highest paid rugby union player in the world when he joins Bristol next season for £1million per year. His former team-mate Halai said he would follow suit.'Tier-two countries need a boost,' Halai said. 'I would switch to Tonga if I had the chance.'No Pacific Island team have reached a World Cup final and a policy change could result in a significant shift of power. It would make eligible a host of Europe-based Polynesians, including former junior All Black Nick Williams.'I would love to go back and play for my motherland, Samoa,' Williams told the Mail on Sunday. 'There are a couple of hundred Polynesians who would jump at the chance.'I played for the junior All Blacks over a decade ago and that's tied me down. I would love the rules to change.'Do people want a two-horse race between England and the All Blacks or do they want to see five or six teams competing? The big dogs need some competition.'Vito, the 33-cap All Black with Samoan ancestry, added: 'I made my bed with the All Blacks so I wouldn't want to take away the opportunity or development of a player who deserves it more, but I would love to play for Samoa.'Samoa are yet to qualify for the World Cup and are on the brink of bankruptcy. Former All Black Sam Tuitupou believes the change could rescue the nation from financial strife.'Samoa have been declared bankrupt so if Ma'a Nonu or Steven Luatua came on board, that would attract a bit of sponsorship,' said Tuitupou. 'If we don't have guys like Steven and Charles Piutau competing at the World Cup, then we can't say it's a showcase of the world's best talent.'Wycliff Palu, the 35-year-old, 58-cap Wallaby No 8, added: 'If I was a couple of years younger, I'd definitely have put my hand up. It would be good for rugby.' Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-5139769/All-Blacks-Piutau-Halai-want-play-Tonga-2019.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - New Zealand 22-28 Tonga: David Fusitua scores hat-trick
The grudge match between New Zealand and Tonga at the Rugby League World Cup was always going to feature plenty of aggression and intensity. What we didn't expect was so much of it before the match had even started. The two adversaries produced spine-tingling war dances ahead of their group stage fixture in Hamilton and went - quite literally - head to head. The Kiwis were the first to perform their traditional challenge - the Haka - and, led by captain Adam Blair, marched right up to the Tongan line.It ended with the New Zealand players screaming into the faces of their rivals.Cronulla Sharks star Andrew Fifita and the Melbourne Storm’s Nelson Asofa-Solomona had their faces pressed against each other before there was a shove and the teams separated. The Tongans then responded with their sipi tau fronted by North Queensland Cowboys player Jason Taumalolo. This was a fiery performance in itself, although the Tongans - perhaps wisely - decided to keep their distance from the New Zealand players to avoid a full flare-up.Instead, they channelled their aggression during the match, storming back from 16-2 down at half-time to claim a shock 28-22 win over the world's No 1 ranked nation. The whole spectacle thrilled a capacity crowd of 25,000 at the Waikato Stadium, with Tongans actually outnumbering local fans despite the game being played in New Zealand.Winger David Fusitua was the Tongan hero as his hat-trick of tries inspired the fightback and earned them a World Cup quarter-final with Lebanon. It means the Kiwis, as Group B runners-up, will face a last-eight showdown with Fiji while Tonga loom as England's potential semi-final opponents.Tonga enjoyed most of the early pressure but only had a penalty from Sio Siua Taukeiaho to show for their efforts and the Kiwis soon began to demonstrate their superior creativity.Left winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak produced a clinical finish midway through the first half to nudge New Zealand ahead and right winger Jordan Rapana went over in the other corner eight minutes later.Hooker Danny Levi also went close for the Kiwis before Tonga winger Daniel Tupou had a try disallowed for a forward pass.It looked a crucial and controversial decision when, four minutes later, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck accepted an offload from centre Brad Takairangi to grab a try that, with Johnson's goal, opened up a 14-point lead.Undeterred, Tonga dominated the third quarter and, after centre Konrad Hurrell went close, Fusitua leapt high to touch down Toa Lolohea's high ball for his first try.Lolohea hit the woodwork with the conversion but he was on target to convert Fusitua's second try after 58 minutes to bring his side to within four points. The pivotal moment came on the hour when Lolohea went over for an interception try and three minutes later Warrington-bound forward Ben Murdoch-Masila broke clear to get full-back Will Hopoate over. When Tuivasa-Sheck went over for his second try after 71 minutes it set up a nervous finish but Fusitua settled it with his third try three minutes from the end. Breaking News - Goran Ivanisevic hoping Croatia can silence 'arrogant' England fans
The Croatian who stopped tennis from coming home in 2001 by beating Tim Henman in Wimbledon's semi-finals has branded the English 'arrogant' over their World Cup chances. Ahead of Wednesday's semi-final against Croatia, former Wimbledon winner Ivanisevic said: 'I hope we don't lose to the English because already you are in the final. 'You already won. You're coming home. You're bringing the trophy - you're so arrogant. You are the best. You are the most beautiful. For sure you are coming home, but I hope not with the trophy.' ✅ Breaking News - Napoli fans don Koulibaly masks to show support after racism storm #Napoli, #fans, #don, #Kalidou, #Koulibaly, #masks, #support, #racism, #storm Napoli fans produced homemade banners and wore Kalidou Koulibaly masks as they showed for the Senegalese following the recent racism storm. The defender was subjected to racist chanting and monkey chants in the club's match against Inter Milan recently. Koulibaly was sent off in that 1-0 defeat but the club's supporters have shown their unwavering support in the face of racism towards their player by showing messages of support ahead of Saturday's home tie against Bologna. Koulibaly will not face Bologna as he serves a one-match suspension following his dismissal at the San Siro but he remains at the centre of events. His team-mates warmed up in shirts with his name on the back as they join the fans in lending their support in the face of adversity. Inter have already been punished for the episode and will have to play two home matches behind closed doors. Many supporters turned to the hashtag of #SiamoTuttiKoulibaly which translates into English as 'We Are All Koulibaly'. Should a similar incident happen again, boss Carlo Ancelotti has insisted he would take his players off the pitch in strike against the treatment of players such as Koulibaly. On Friday, team-mate Ghoulam Faouzi wrote on twitter: 'It doesn't matter the color of the skin. It doesn't matter the religion. It doesn't matter what team you're rooting for. 'Football, like all sports, is a game. And all the games are passion, fun, freedom: And in freedom we are all alike! Tomorrow we will all be Koulibaly!' Breaking News - Appie Nouri's brother shares positive news a year after cardiac arrest
Abdelhak Nouri is showing signs of improvement just over a year after he suffered brain damage following a cardiac arrest during a friendly for Ajax. The 21-year-old was playing against Werder Bremen in July, 2017, when he collapsed and received CPR on the pitch before being airlifted to hospital. Doctors were initially optimistic about Nouri's progress, but Ajax later confirmed that his diagnosis was career-ending. However, Nouri's brother, Abderrahim, has now shared a positive update on his sibling, who suffered 'serious and permanent' brain damage. He said: 'His neurological condition is better than a few months ago. 'Physically, it's hard, he does not move the body, just the head, but sometimes he gets out of bed to sit in his wheelchair. 'You can communicate with him.' Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest after coming on as a half-time substitute during the pre-season friendly in Austria. He was treated by emergency medical staff after falling to the turf without being touched with just over 15 minutes of the game remaining. Justin Kluivert, Nouri's former team-mate at Ajax, picked the No 34 shirt after completing his £16million move to Roma this summer in order to pay tribute to his friend, who wore the same number in Holland. Nouri made 15 appearances for Ajax's first-team during the 2016-17 season, including three in the Europa League, and scored on his senior debut in a 5-0 win over Willem II in the Dutch Cup. He was tipped to have bright future having been a regular in all of Holland's youth teams, playing on 19 occasions for the country's Under 19s. Breaking News - Paul Madeley was a one-club Rolls-Royce of a player and a gentleman
When Paul Madeley claimed he could not command a place in the great Leeds United team built by Don Revie he offered a clue to his two enduring qualities. First, of course, there was his versatility. For Madeley could play absolutely anywhere in the team and could perform with genuine quality wherever he might be selected to play. He wore every outfield shirt number at least 15 times during his 17 years at Elland Road as he made more than 700 appearances for Leeds. Revie liked to call him his 'Rolls- Royce' and even in a team which acquired a fierce reputation for being adept at the ugly side of the game he was always an absolute gentleman. Second was his humility. 'I'm not in the great team,' said Madeley. 'Ask anyone to name the great Leeds United team in my era and I don't figure in it. I don't figure in it, even if I'm choosing the team. 'I switched about, due to injury mainly, I never had a regular spot. No, the team was: Sprake; Reaney and Cooper full-backs; Charlton and Hunter centre backs; in midfield Lorimer, Bremner, Giles, Eddie Gray; and up front Mick Jones and Allan Clarke.' The modest appraisal encapsulates his brilliance and he was highly regarded by anyone who watched Revie's Leeds rise through the ranks and dominate English football. His death at the age of 73 was confirmed on Monday night with a message on Facebook from Paul Reaney's son Neil. 'An absolute colossus who has battled against the odds for years,' said Neil Reaney. 'A massive hero of mine and a lot of Leeds fans. Dad grew up with this legend and they came through the Elland Road ranks together to play in one of the best sides Europe and the world will see. Madeley's versatility extended beyond football, where he enjoyed a successful business career with his brothers. They sold a chain of DIY stores for £27million in 1987 and he was often hailed as a potential saviour as Leeds plunged into financial crisis. But he had suffered from health problems since his retirement. In 1992, he underwent a successful operation to remove a brain tumour. Later there was a mild heart attack and he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Madeley did not return in an official capacity after his retirement as a player in 1980 but he was a one-club man, born in Beeston, and, like most of Revie's players, would always adore Leeds United. The bonds were tight from the many battles they went through together and he played a significant part in many of them, sometimes up front and sometimes at the back. In the early year, he was more often utilised in attacking positions. He wore number nine in the League Cup final and scored the vital away goal at Juventus when Leeds won the Fairs Cup. Breaking News - Boreham Wood 1-2 Tranmere: Micky Mellon's side back in Football League
An explosive and extraordinary play-off final at Wembley Stadium ended in promotion to the Football League for Tranmere Rovers, who won despite playing an entire match with 10 men. They made up for their loss in last year’s National League final by beating Boreham Wood, who were given a man advantage by referee Neil Hair after 48 seconds. What an advert this was for non-League football. Tranmere refused to give up, even when it looked like fate was working against them. They saw Liam Ridehalgh sent off inside a minute, then took a surprise lead through Andy Cook within six before being pegged back in first half stoppage-time. In the second half, having used all of their substitutions, they dug in and James Norwood scored the winner with 10 minutes to go. They dropped out of the Football League in 2015. It took a while, but they are back. Ridehalgh was shown a straight red within 50 seconds for recklessly two-footing Wood’s Ricky Shakes. Down to 10 men, Tranmere’s fans feared a long afternoon Yet within seven minutes, they had the lead after a Norwood cross was met by the head of Cook, who celebrated in front of the opposition fans. They did not take kindly to that and bottles of beer were thrown, one of which struck Josh Ginnelly directed on the head and left him needing treatment. Ginnelly was later substituted. Wood’s Michael Folivi then went down claiming for a spot-kick after a challenge by Manny Monthe. The officials were no longer in the mood to help them out. As first-half stoppage time was announced, 10-man Tranmere had used all three of their substitutions through injuries and tactical necessities. They were about to be hit with a sucker-punch before the break. It was eight minutes into added time when Wood’s Bruno Andrade met a cross, burying it beyond goalkeeper Scott Davies. The ‘Portugeezer’, as he is known, had them level. Tranmere assistant Michael Jackson was also sent to the stands at half time. It seemed luck was not on their side. Yet in the 80th minute, they struck. A cross by substitute Connor Jennings was inviting and Wood’s Tom Champion had lost his man in Norwood – a criminal mistake. Norwood headed for goal and Grant Smith could not get a strong enough hand to send it wide. It sent Tranmere supporters wild. There were 16,306 here and the majority were from Merseyside. In the stands, the man who was sent off, Ridehalgh, was in tears. His one moment of madness had not cost Tranmere. They are now back in the Football League. Breaking News - Marcus Rashford spotted out in with girlfriend Lucia Loi
Breaking News - Marcus Rashford spotted out in with girlfriend Lucia Loi #Manchester, #United, #star, #Marcus, #Rashford, #spotted, #girlfriend, #Lucia, #Loi Marcus Rashford may have been absent from Manchester United's win over Watford on Saturday, but that didn't stop him celebrating with a relaxing Sunday afternoon out with his girlfriend. The 20-year-old, who was suspended for the 2-1 win at Vicarage Road, was pictured walking through the leafy Altrincham suburb of Hale with his partner Lucia Loi. They were heading to the popular Italian eatery Piccolino, where they enjoyed lunch together as Rashford made the most of his afternoon off from training. The restaurant has grown used to the stars of Manchester's two biggest clubs dropping in and recently hosted Rashford's team-mates Chris Smalling, Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay. It would have been the perfect way for Rashford to forget about a troublesome week in which is has found himself in the spotlight through no fault of his own. Indeed, it was Jamie Carragher's suggestion that he should leave Old Trafford that sparked a debate that angered Jose Mourinho. The Sky Sports pundit, speaking after Rashford scored the winning goal for England against Switzerland last week, said the striker may have to switch clubs to reach his potential and suggested Everton as a possible destination. Mourinho hit back in his press conference prior to the Watford match, coming armed with a ton of statistics that seemingly prove Rashford is getting the required amount of playing time. 'In the season 2016-17, Marcus Rashford played 32 Premier League matches and 11 Europa League matches including the final. Three in the FA Cup,' he said. 'He had 53 appearances. But if you want minutes, he played 3,068 minutes. If you divide that by 90 it is 34.2 matches of 90 minutes in 2016-17. 'In 2017-18 he played 35 Premier League matches, eight Champions League, five FA Cup — including the final — three League Cup and the Super Cup. 'He played a total of 52 matches with 2,676 minutes. Divide that by 90 minutes and it is 29.7 matches. So in all, 105 appearances, 5,744 minutes, 63.7 matches of 90 minutes — including five finals.' Further backing up Mourinho's point, statistics compiled by Opta show Rashford has played 108 games since the Portuguese took charge in 2016. No other Manchester United player has featured more. Breaking News - Samuel Eto'o signs for Qatar SC as legendary striker joins 13th club
Samuel Eto'o has joined the 13th club of his long career after signing for Qatari side Qatar Sports Club - just days after he ended a brief stay at Turkish outfit Konyaspor. The former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker will be unveiled on Tuesday as he becomes the latest big-name edition to Qatar's domestic league as it gears up to host the 2022 World Cup. The club said on social media that it would 'present the international star Samuel Eto'o' at a press conference. It is understood he underwent a medical earlier in the day. The four-time African player of the year will join former team-mates in Qatar, including ex-Barcelona midfielder Xavi, who plays for Al Sadd, and Wesley Sneijder who was at Inter. In 2009, Eto'o won the Champions League with Barcelona playing alongside Xavi. A year later he won the same trophy with Inter in the same team as Sneijder. The Dutchman now plays for Al Gharafa in Qatar's domestic competition, the Qatar Stars League. The signing is a coup for Qatar Sports Club, who finished in mid-table last season and currently have little hope of winning any domestic titles. Earlier on Monday Eto'o said Ligue 1 clubs had contacted him after he announced he was leaving Turkey last week. The 37-year-old is now in the twilight of a fabulous career. He enjoyed five hugely successful seasons with Barcelona from 2004 to 2009, before helping Jose Mourinho's Inter side win the treble of Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia titles in his first season in Italy. He then had brief stints at Chelsea and Everton in the Premier League. Eto'o also scored 56 times for his country in 118 appearances and won two African Cup of Nations with Cameroon. Breaking News - Khabib apologises for sparking mass brawl after win over McGregor
Breaking News - Khabib apologises for sparking mass brawl after win over McGregor #Khabib, #Nurmagomedov, #apologises, #sparking, #mass, #brawl, #win, #Conor, #McGregor, #Las, #Vegas After the remarkable brawl that tainted Khabib Nurmagomedov's stunning UFC 229 victory over Conor Mcgregor, he was personally congratulated over the phone by Russian president Vladimir Putin. The lightweight champion leapt the cage after submitting his challenger in the fourth round and attempted to attack the Irishman's team-mate. Members of his own team hopped the octagon fence and one punched McGregor from behind. Putin personally called in to show his appreciation in the wake of ugly and chaotic scenes in the T-Mobile Arena. Khabib showed remorse for his role in the carnage, apologising to the Nevada Athletic Commission and Las Vegas: 'First of all I want to say sorry to athletic commission and Las Vegas, this is not my best side, I am a human being.' The Dagestani went on to explain what had riled him into such a furious rage, saying McGregor and his team had repeatedly crossed the line with deeply personal insults and abuse. 'He talked about my religion, country, father, why are people talking about me jumping over a cage. My father taught me to respect people. Conor nearly killed two people on that bus,' Khabib continued. McGregor had labelled Khabib's manager Ali Abdelaziz a 'terrorist' and 'rat' in the build-up, also mocking the devout Sunni Muslim for not trying his whiskey. The lightweight champion called for more respect but conceded that his father, who has trained him from a young age, will reprimand him at home. 'This is a respect sport. Not a trash talking sport. I want to talk shit about opponents, my father, religion or country, this is very important. My father is going to smash me when I go home. Putin just called me, he said he is very proud of me and my victory.' On the fight itself, Khabib's summation was simple: 'He is a tap machine. I am the undefeated, undisputed UFC lightweight champion.' UFC president Dana White earlier revealed that McGregor's attackers in the octagon had been released following arrest as the Irishman refused to press charges. He said: 'I saw one of Conor's guys yelling at Khabib, he then jumped over the octagon and went after him. Two of Khabib's guys got into the octagon and hit Conor with some shots from behind.' They have pulled the footage from us and have withheld Khabib's purse but not Conor's. 'Being in there, I felt that I have to start worrying about the fans there to watch the fight. I felt to put the belt on him it was going to rain, it could have been a dangerous situation in the octagon so we got him out of there. 'Conor refused to press charges so the guys who were arrested have been released. The guys who jumped in will never fight here. I've been working hard for 18 years to build this sport. I know many of you are here for the first time, I can promise you that this is not what MMA is about. He went on: 'We worked hard to build a perfect event, we took all the right precautions, you've never seen so many police officers. I think the last meeting we had with both team aft Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/mma/article-6248943/Khabib-Nurmagomedov-apologises-sparking-mass-brawl-win-Conor-McGregor-Las-Vegas.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ito=1490&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - Samoa rugby bankrupt: Prime Minister asks citizens to help
The Samoa Rugby Union (SRU) has been declared 'bankrupt' by the country's Prime Minister Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi.Malielegaoi, who is also chair of the SRU, has been taking part in a radio marathon to raise awareness and funds for the team that is set to face both England and Scotland in upcoming Autumn Internationals. The RFU have announced it will make a goodwill payment of £75,000 to the Samoan Rugby Union. It is thought the Test will earn the English body up to £10million.Samoa had asked the RFU for £160,000 from their upcoming clash at Twickenham on November 25, but will receive less than half that amount. Scotland are also set to host the Pacific Islanders on Saturday.Samoa have been wrestling with their crippling debt for years, which at its highest reached £305,000 in 2015.They have since been able to reduce it to £147,000, but current World Rugby rules exacerbate the problems faced by Samoa and other Pacific Island sides, with hosts under no obligation to share any of their revenue with visiting Test sides inside international windows. It is a problem the governing body are keen to fix, but in the meantime, Samoa are relying on donations and charity from citizens in its own country.'They're begging the public for their financial support in today's radiothon,' reporter Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia told RadioNZ.'They did not say how much money they're looking to collect but they need hundreds of thousands of Tala.'The Rugby Union is broke so he (the Prime Minister) doesn't know how to put the situation financially of the Rugby Union.'The Union is broke and it's better for the SRU to get up and do something and to make people look at the SRU leading and trying to generate some funds through this radiothon to help the rugby development in the country.'Former Samoa and Wasps second row Daniel Leo responded to the declaration from Prime Minister Malielegaoi on Twitter, describing it as a 'dark day' for the country.'A dark day for the rugby world as PM announces Samoa officially Bankrupt, asking public dig deep and bail them out,' he wrote, before adding the hashtag #saveSamoa. Breaking News - Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka had 'nasty and threatening' bust-up
Breaking News - Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka had 'nasty and threatening' bust-up #Dustin, #Johnson, #Brooks, #Koepka, #nasty, #threatening, #bust, #USAs, #Ryder, #Cup, #defeat Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka almost came to blows during a heated argument in the bitter aftermath of the United States' resounding Ryder Cup defeat to Europe over the weekend. The two players, who go by the nickname 'The Bash Brothers' because of their close friendship, had to be separated following a flare-up inside the Europe team room, where they had joined the celebrating hosts for a beer on Sunday night. Johnson and Koepka played together in the Saturday afternoon foursomes, losing to Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, one of many American defeats in their overall 10.5-17.5 loss at Le Golf National near Paris. According to The Sun, a witness said Koepka exploded with anger and threatened to flatten his friend. They had to be dragged apart to opposite corners of the room while tensions cooled. Johnson's wife Paulina Gretzky had previously promoted rumours of a rift between the pair by deleting every picture of Koepka from her Instagram account. She was believed to be close by when the argument erupted, while an eyewitness said she was 'clearly shocked and upset by the nastiness, which was very threatening.' Johnson and Koepka are usually close friends on and off the course, working out at the same Florida gym, but their 'Bash Brothers' nickname proved appropriate on a weekend of bitter recriminations among the American team. Patrick Reed took aim at US captain Jim Furyk and his 'buddy system' that led to him being paired with a jaded Tiger Woods instead of Jordan Spieth, whom he blamed for splitting up their previously successful partnership. Reed lost both of his fourball matches with Woods, though he did defeat Tyrell Hatton in Sunday's singles. Reed sat out two matches, something which clearly irritated him. He said: 'I thought our captain might go back with the groups that have worked in the past. For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am, I don't think it's smart to sit me out twice. 'The issue's obviosuly with Jordan not wanting to play with me. I don't have any issue with Jordan. 'When it comes right down to it, I don't care if I like the person I'm paired with or if the person likes me, as long as it works and it sets the team up for success. 'He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done.' Breaking News - Laurent Blanc Q&A: Who is the man poised to take over at Chelsea?
Former Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc has emerged as a serious candidate to take over as Chelsea manager this summer. The Blues are on the verge of changing manager for the 14th time in 15 years, if you include caretaker bosses, and Blanc appears to be the man primed to follow Antonio Conte. So, who is Blanc, and what can Chelsea fans expect if he is to succeed Conte at Stamford Bridge this summer? Blanc was a formidable defender in a playing career that saw him turn out for Montpellier, Napoli, Saint-Etienne, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Manchester United among others. He has experience of English football after spending two seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson between 2001 and 2003. His stint at Old Trafford was very much in the twilight years though and, after helping United win the 2002/03 Premier League title, he called time on his playing career once his contract expired. Blanc was also part of the French squad that won the 1998 World Cup on home soil. Nicknamed 'Le President' at Marseille because of his leadership strengths, Blanc was ruled out of the final against Brazil after being sent off in the last four against Croatia for slapping Slaven Bilic. What has he done as a manager? In his first job at Bordeaux Blanc not only won the league and cup double in his second season at the club, but also took them to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. It was Bordeaux's first league title in 10 years, and they haven't finished in the top four since his departure. Then the French national team job came calling in 2010 following the scandal involving Raymond Domenech at the World Cup in South Africa. Blanc led his country to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 where they were eventually beaten by Spain. He was hired by PSG after Carlo Ancelotti departed for Real Madrid in 2013. Blanc left after three seasons in charge in June 2016 after the club managed to win Ligue 1 and the French Cup but failed to reach the Champions League semi-finals in his final year in charge. Blanc won 11 trophies during his time in charge of PSG, and on two occasions won the domestic quadruple of Ligue 1, the French Cup, the League Cup and the French Super Cup. Why is he out of work? There is not one specific reason for Blanc being out of work for two years but his lack of Champions League success may concern the continent's top teams when they are inspecting the market. At PSG he never made it past the quarter-final stage and, as we have seen with Unai Emery, domestic success will only please the Qatari owners for so long. Blanc has also admitted to being particularly picky when asked about potential jobs. He has said: 'I know I'm fussy, only a big club would interest me. If not, I'll face facts and think of something else.' Blanc prefers to concentrate on his own team's set-up rather than tailoring his tactics to counter the opposition's strengths. There is a serious onus put on possession with Blanc's teams wanting to dominate the ball. His time at B

Breaking News - Ferrari urged to retain Kimi Raikkonen
More than 20,000 Kimi Raikkonen fans have signed an online petition urging Ferrari to keep the Finnish Formula One driver for another year rather than replace him with rookie Charles Leclerc. The petition, on change.org, argued that replacing the 38-year-old was 'not justifiable' and that the team needed him to keep the balance alongside four times world champion Sebastian Vettel. 'Kimi has also outperformed Vettel a number of times proving he is back on form and his drive in Monza just adds more credibility to that,' argued petition organiser Christy John. The petition is highly unlikely to have any influence on matters, with Ferrari widely assumed to have already made their decision to replace the 2007 world champion with their 20-year-old Monegasque protege who debuted for Sauber this season. An announcement to that effect is expected soon in Formula One circles, with the series heading to Singapore for next week's race. Raikkonen is the oldest driver in the sport and remains the last Ferrari driver to have won a title and one of the most popular on the starting grid. Nicknamed 'The Iceman' for his often glacial demeanour, his dour nature and dislike of media and sponsor engagements has also endeared him to many fans who see him as a throwback to a bygone era. The Finn appears to have softened this season, however, while raising his game on the track. At Monza, Ferrari's home track in Italy, last weekend he started on pole - after the fastest ever Formula One lap - and finished second to world champion Lewis Hamilton to record his 100th career podium. Former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn, who is now Formula One's managing director for sporting matters, said he had noticed a change in the Finn. 'Since I returned to Formula One last year, I'e noticed how Kimi has lightened up,' he said after Sunday's race. 'It can be spotted in a host of little things, such as spending a bit more time signing autographs or smiling for cameras that in the past would usually have only elicited a scowl. 'This year, he is certainly driving better than at any time since he returned to Ferrari (in 2014) and maybe another chance will come along soon.' Breaking News - Raul Sanllehi is just what Arsenal need
When Neymar was leaving Barcelona last summer and relations between him and the club were at their worst, there was one man he was still willing to speak to – Raul Sanllehi. For 15 years the director of football has served the club under three different presidents and he has never lost his ability to stay on side with the players, earn and keep their trust, and provide an important bridge between the dressing room and the board room. That charisma and those communication skills have also made him instrumental in some of the biggest deals in the club's history. He was there when Neymar left but he was also instrumental when he arrived building an excellent relationship with the player's father. It was Sanllehi who made sure the Brazilian ended up at Barcelona in 2011 and not at Real Madrid and it was Sanllehi who kept him from Paris Saint Germain's clutches in 2016 by jetting to Brazil to spend a week talking the family back from the brink and into a new contract. He could not repeat the trick a year later but most see that as not having been down to him. It was the failings of others, the enduring brilliance of Messi and the persistence of the French club that finally saw Neymar leave.Sanllehi's contacts in football are second to none and Barcelona will struggle to replace him. One top agent told Sportsmail: 'He's excellent at what he does; he's the best that Barcelona have.'His longevity at the club speaks volumes – most presidents want to work with their own men and not the man who stood shoulder to shoulder with the last commander in chief, but even when Sandro Rosell replaced Joan Laporta, sworn enemies the pair of them, Rosell still knew better than to ditch Sanllehi. His job at the club was never to pinpoint targets. Txiki Begiristain and Andoni Zubizarreta fulfilled that role before Robert Fernandez took the mantle but Sanllehi was always handed the baton when the deal had to be pushed over the line. Arsenal's notorious inability to do just that will be boosted if Sanllehi arrives although it will be a challenge for his charms to do something about Arsene Wenger's tendency towards procrastination.Sportsmail understands there is no deal in place to bring him to north London, for now him switching to the Emirates remains just a possible option when he finally cuts all ties with Barcelona in the next few weeks.Wherever he ends up he will bring an extensive knowledge of La Liga and of South America where he worked closely with Barcelona's man in Brazil Andre Curry this summer on bringing Brazil captain Paulinho to the Nou Camp. And he knows the Premier League too. In 2014 he led negotiations with Liverpool's Ian Ayre to bring Luis Suarez to Barcelona from Anfield. He succeeded in closing the deal for £65million, £10m less than Liverpool had wanted. It was busy summer in 2014 when Ivan Rakitic and Marc Andre ter Stegen also arrived and a new team was built for incoming coach Luis Enrique – it won the treble for him in his first season, another success story. If he has been so good then why are he and Barcelona parting company? Fifteen years is a long time for any one in any position to survive at a club. He has felt the need to seek a new challenge and that fits with president Josep Bartomeu feeling that he needed to shake things up after a turbulent summer that saw Barcelona given the runaround by first PSG and the Neymars and then later by Liverpool who had them believing right up until deadline day that they would sell them the Brazilian playmaker. Coutinho could still end up at the Nou Camp in January or at the end of the season.By which time Sanllehi may have his feet under the table somewhere new. Not that he spends too much time behind a desk – his reputation for being a man of action goes before him. He got things done effectively at Barcelona – the club won four European Cups in his time at the club, a least a small part of that success was down to him doing his job well. Sporting Kansas City's Johnny Russell made a nine-year-old's birthday wish come true as he climbed over a barrier to give her a hug and his shirt following their 3-0 win over Portland at the weekend. Russell, who got on the score sheet for Kansas with a goal in the 89th, proceeded to the crowd following the final whistle. What do you think guys? #SmashLesnar #FakeFights' Khabib is awaiting to hear what his punishment will be from the brawl in Vegas but should sanctions fall with one of his team-mates, he vowed on Thursday to turn his back on UFC. In a sensational ultimatum Khabib claimed he will quit if team-mate Zubaira Tukhugov is sanctioned for hitting McGregor in the staggering post-fight brawl. In a lengthy statement published on Instagram on Thursday, Khabib wrote: 'Why didn't you fire anyone when their team attacked the bus and injured a couple of people? They could have killed someone there, why no one says anything about insulting my homeland, religion, nation, family? 'Why do you have to punish my team, when both teams fought. If you say that I started it, then I do not agree, I finished what he had started. 'If you decide to fire him, you should know that you’ll lose me too. We never give up on our brothers in Russia and I will go to the end for my Brother. If you still decide to fire him, don’t forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I'll break it myself.' The Dagastani had climbed from the cage to punch McGregor's team-mate Dillon Danis before the chaos entered the octagon with Tukhugov punching McGregor in the back of the head with security overwhelmed. UFC President Dana White said after the brawl was diffused inside the T-Mobile Arena that Tukhugov and Islam Makhachev, another Russian MMA fighter, will never fight in his competition again. The Nevada State Athletic Commission have temporarily suspended both Khabib and McGregor as they probe the incident further - but it now appears the WWE are willing to offer him an alternative route. Vince McMahon's billion dollar corporation has helped UFC stars previously such as Ronda Rousey make the transition away from the octagon. McGregor has previously talked of WWE's interest in him before he upset a host of the corporation's big names by labelling them 'dweebs'. ✅ Breaking News - Lionel Messi responds to Cristiano Ronaldo's challenge
✅ Breaking News - Lionel Messi responds to Cristiano Ronaldo's challenge #Lionel, #Messi, #responds, #Cristiano, #Ronaldos, #challenge, #join, #Italy Lionel Messi has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's challenge to leave Barcelona and renew their personal rivalry in the Italian league. The Portuguese had set Messi the challenge of proving his talents in a league other than La Liga after leaving Real Madrid for Juventus in a £100million move last summer. Ronaldo said: 'I played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal, in the national team, while he is still in Spain. Maybe he needs me more. 'For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy. I would like him to come to Italy one day. Like me, accept the challenge.' However Messi, whose Barcelona side currently sit top of the La Liga table, has emphatically responded to Ronaldo's suggestion. 'Accepting Ronaldo's challenge to join Italian football? I don't need any change,' the Argentine told Marca. 'I'm at the best team in the world. My challenges are renewed year after year. I do not need to change teams or leagues to set new goals. 'I am at home and I do not need to change.' Messi, 31, has scored 21 goals and contributed 13 assists for Barcelona so far this season, while Ronaldo has scored 13 goals and contributed seven assists since his arrival in Italy. Meanwhile, Messi has admitted he would love a reunion with Brazilian star Neymar at Barcelona. It has been suggested that Neymar will leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer with a potential return to the Nou Camp on the cards. 'We would love for him to come back for what it would mean, as much as a player as for the dressing room. 'We are friends, we had great moments, others not so much, but we passed a lot of time together. 'However it looks very hard for him to leave Paris. PSG won't let him quit.' ✅ Breaking News - Sky Sports Racing not planning to outbid ITV
✅ Breaking News - Sky Sports Racing not planning to outbid ITV #Sky, #Sports, #Racing, #not, #planning, #outbid, #ITV The new Sky Sports Racing channel will complement terrestrial coverage of the sport by ITV and help boost the profile of the sport, it was claimed on Wednesday. The latest dedicated sports channel in the Sky stable will born on January 1, a rebranded and significantly repackaged version of the current Attheraces channel. It will look like a Sky sports channel, have HD pictures, new innovations like super slo-mo cameras and new schedules including, in a nod to Sky's Monday Night Football, a Monday Night Racing programme. Sky's involvement has been seen by some as the first steps in what could end in a bid for the rights to cover the sport currently held by ITV. Some of Sky Racing's biggest on-screen talent which includes Matt Chapman, Luke Harvey and Jason Weaver also work for ITV. They have been tied down to work for ITV when both channels cover one of the jewels in their crowns, Royal Ascot, next year. But ATR chief executive Matthew Imi, who said the new channel will have access to 14million homes via the Sky and Virgin platforms, added: 'There has been a portrayal of our relationship with ITV being somehow adversarial. That could not be further from the truth. 'We both have a common objective to grow the sport and generate new audiences. We should be working together to achieve that and that is the intention.' Sky Sport Racing's coverage of the 2019 royal meeting will be led by Hayley Moore, sister of three-time champion jockey Ryan, ATR regular Gina Bryce and Alex Hammond, who returns to a racing TV role after 15 years as a Sky Sports News regular. It will be Hammond who will by the first face of Sky Sports Racing when the cameras role at 9am on January 1. Also joining the team as a pundit is former jockey Freddy Tylicki whose riding career was cut short by a fall in 2016 which left him paralysed. Over 700 domestic fixtures will all have a dedicated on-course reporter and while Sky Sports Racing has lost the rights to cover Irish racing it will have a significant international flavour having signed exclusive rights to show French racing, plus action from the US, Hong Kong, and Australia. It has won back rights to cover Ascot as well as gaining coverage of Bangor and Chester. Classic track Doncaster is also in its portfolio. Breaking News - Tottenham start installing seats to new 62,000-seater stadium
Tottenham's new stadium is beginning to take shape as the club reveal the start of the seat-installation process.Spurs are due to move into their new 62,000-seater stadium, reported to cost around £850million to complete, at the start of next season and have spent there transitional season using Wembley as a temporary home. And as they make steady progress with the main structure, the North London club have begun the lengthy process of installing the seats for their new home.'The navy blue seats continue to be installed within the stadium bowl. #SpursNewStadium,' Spurs wrote on Instagram.Naturally, the seats will follow suit with the stadium's predecessor, White Hart Lane, and will be navy blue. The Stadium itself, which chairman Daniel Levy has explained will be known as 'The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium' until a suitable sponsor is chosen, includes features such asLED lighting on its outer shell which will see it glow blue for evening matches. As well as this, a retractable pitch will accommodate NFL fixtures as part of a 10-year agreement - the first of which will take place on October 14 when the Seattle Seahawks play the Oakland Raiders. As expected, watching Spurs at their new stadium won't be cheap either, with the least-expensive season ticket price being £795 for adults and the most expensive requiring a vast investment to the sum of £1,995 - the costliest anywhere in the Premier League.Much is still to be done though and with their deadline for completion fast approaching, Levy revealed they may require their first hand-full of Premier League fixtures to be played away from home. Breaking News - Dele Alli tries (and fails) to teach team-mates his new celebration
Dele Alli's new goal celebration looked simple enough when he executed it against Newcastle United on Saturday, but it is evidently harder than it looks after he failed in his attempts to teach his team-mates. The midfielder scored the winning goal in their 2-1 victory at St James's Park, drifting in at the back post before heading home a perfectly-weighted cross from right-back Serge Aurier. It gave him the perfect opportunity to display his new celebration, which involves a contorted hand motion to form a circle around his left eye. As far as modern-day celebrations go, it was rather understated. But while Alli managed to teach himself, he was unable to impart the wisdom on either Georges-Kevin N'Koudou and Fernando Llorente, both of whom struggled in their attempts to replicate it. That was not through want of trying, however, as the French midfielder made several attempts before finally giving up. Alli, filming N'Koudou's struggle on his phone, later shared the videos with his Instagram followers. Llorente came much closer to successfully executing it, but ultimately discovered he is not gifted with the required dexterity. After seeing N'Koudou struggle on for several minutes, Alli wrote: 'Nah I'm done with this guy. The struggle is real.' Alli also tagged his fellow England internationals Jesse Lingard and Danny Welbeck in the posts, suggesting this new fad may have been cooked up during their prolonged stay in Russia for the World Cup. It also means we could see it spread to Manchester United and Arsenal if and when the aforementioned pair score for their respective clubs. The contagion has already reached Chelsea's training ground in Cobham where the young striker Tammy Abraham was caught trying to replicate it while looking into his mobile phone. Izzy Brown, who was filming his seemingly oblivious team-mate, tagged Alli with the caption: 'Bro, teach him please.' Judging by Alli's failed attempts to teach his own team-mates, Abraham may well be on his own. Breaking News - Joe Cokanasiga: The 17st wing who’s only 19!
Meet Ratu Josateki Tuivanuavou Waqanivalu Cokanasiga — most people call him Big Joe. His name translates as: Chief Joe, King of the new place, the warship with spears of the sun.All rather intimidating when matched to an enormous man. Cokanasiga pushes 6ft 4in tall and weighs 17st 9lb and the London Irish Exile is a winger, and 19 years old.He has a handy guide for commentators.‘The C becomes a TH in Fijian.‘If you are from a chiefly descent you can be called Ratu. My granddad was a chief and I was named after him, so I got the Ratu name.‘And Waqanivalu is our old family surname from cannibal times – but considered too aggressive to be used these days!’Cokanasiga may have been born in Suva, but all this is delivered from the gentle giant in a well-spoken, soft southern English accent – his upbringing is decidedly British. That is because father, Ilaitia, served in the Army’s Royal Logistic Corps. That job meant the family left the Pacific islands when Joe was three.Joe, sister Missy, seven years older, and brother Philip, three years younger, upped sticks to live in Mill Hill, then Abingdon, before moving to Monchengladbach as Cokanasiga approached his teens. By 14 Brunei was home.‘I was too young to remember Fiji,’ he adds.‘I used to run around shirtless apparently! My best childhood memories are from Germany. I loved it there.‘There was a big campus at General Headquarters. Every army base has a NAAFI (Navy, Army, Air Force Institutes) with English shops, so there is an Army Tescos! It kind of felt like living in England.‘I joined the football club and played centre back. Once we played Monchengladbach girls and I scored from the half-way line – I was meant to be clearing it but it went in!‘Surprisingly my passion for rugby started in Brunei. My dad played for the Army out there, I watched him before joining in. Then we played together for the club on the weekend in the centres.‘I let him do all the hard work and took the glory! He played very direct, loved running straight at people one-on-one.‘He would make a line-break then offload to me and mum would be on the sideline shouting at my dad to protect me.’These days sister Missy works for the Fiji High Commission in London, and Philip is a budding rugby player.Joe is the self-confessed ‘mummy’s boy’ who only started to love the game watching the 2013 Lions series as a 15-year-old.‘I saw George North pick up Israel Folau and after that I wanted to take it more seriously,’ he says.Fast-forward four years and Cokanasiga was touring Argentina with Eddie Jones and England. After moving back to Blighty he was picked up by Billy Clark, the former London Irish academy manager, just a couple of years ago.‘As soon as he saw my thighs he said: “yeah!”. I didn’t know whether to take that as a compliment or not!’ Cokanasiga laughs.Last season in the Championship he stunned London Scottish on his debut, scoring an outrageous try from his own 22, powering past a hapless defence carrying the ball in one hand above his head. After that he was part of the Six Nations Grand Slam-winning U20 national team but being picked in a senior England squad was beyond his wildest dreams.‘I thought there was no way I was going to go because I was in the Championship and had not played well enough to get a spot,’ he recalls.‘A couple of months before the announcement I was getting a haircut with the boys and got an email saying “England Rugby: Confidential” and I thought – what is this?‘It was from Eddie Jones saying 1

AutoNews Ivan Rakitic has revealed how he would have found himself and his family in the centre of the recent Barcelona attacks had it not been for his wife's intervention. In August, Barcelona became the latest victim of terror attacks that had been streaming through Europe. The attack saw a van drive through the streets of the picturesque Spanish city and run down innocent civilians and tourists, killing 13 and injuring 100.But the Barcelona and Croatian midfielder told Spanish news website Sport that he had planned to visit that area of Barcelona where the terror attack struck on the day, but after intervention from his wife, Raquel Mauri, returned home with his children.'I was very close to the recent terrorist attack in Barcelona, Rakitic told Croatian news agency 24 Sata in an exclusive interview. Breaking News - Man United Class of 92 member Thornley opens up on his injury hell
Breaking News - Man United Class of 92 member Thornley opens up on his injury hell #Manchester, #United, #Class, #92, #member, #Ben, #Thornley, #opens, #injury, #hell Ben Thornley, the star of Manchester United's famous Class of 92 who was once branded the new George Best, has opened up on the cruel twist of fate that ended his chances of emulating the stellar careers of David Beckham and Paul Scholes. Bury-born Thornley, a winger, was regarded even above Beckham and Scholes as the stand-out player in United's academy side and tipped for a top class career at Old Trafford. That was until a horror challenge by Blackburn defender Nicky Marker in a reserve match in April 1994 inflicted such damage to Thornley's knee it wrecked the trajectory of his entire career. Alex Ferguson was considering selecting 18-year-old Thornley in the United squad for the FA Cup semi-final against Oldham Athletic a few days later. Though Thornley, after a year of recovery, was able to partially resurrect his career, playing 13 times for United, his ultimate destiny was to play in the Football League and non-league instead of the Premier League and Champions League. A new autobiography of Thornley's career called Tackled: The Class of 92 Star Who Never Got To Graduate details how United legend Nobby Stiles said of him: 'Ben is the closest I've seen to George Best in all my time at the club.' Sir Matt Busby, Best's manager at Old Trafford, was sitting nearby when Stiles made the statement and didn't argue otherwise. Speaking to The Guardian, Thornley reflects: 'Crazy, absolutely crazy. There are very few footballers that have ever lived that would measure up to George Best and so to be compared to him, at whatever level, by somebody who has been a World Cup winner - well, you can't ask for more than that.' The more renowned graduates of the Class of 92 certainly back up Stiles' bold assertion. In the book, David Beckham says: 'Ben would have outdone us all - that's the sad part.' Scholes says Thornley was 'a step above all of us, he could do everything.' Gary Nevile says he was 'one of the most outstanding talents I ever played with.' Thornley suffered a ruptured medical collateral ligament and medial capsule, ruptured cruciate ligaments and a detachment of the medial meniscus in Marker's awful tackle. Ferguson encouraged him to seek damages from Marker and Blackburn for loss of earnings and he secured a pay-out five years later. But five minutes before that moment, United coach Jim Ryan, with one eye on the possible Cup semi-final appearance, asked Thornley if he wanted to come off. 'It's probably the worst decision that I've ever made in my life and something that completely changed my life,' he told The Guardian. As Beckham, Scholes and the Neville brothers won the Treble and Premier League title after Premier League title, Thornley was playing in the Football League and also briefly north of the border with Aberdeen. Off the field, his life was unravelling as he hit the bottle and he hit rock bottom after nine months of benders following separation from his wife Claire in 2006. 'I took it to extremes in my second sea Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6265051/Manchester-United-Class-92-member-Ben-Thornley-opens-injury-hell.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ito=1490&ns_campaign=1490

Mourinho bought the Egyptian striker from the Swiss club Basel in January 2014 for £ 14 million. Salah was then loaned to Fiorentina, then sold to Roma in the summer of 2016. After a good season in Italy, he joined Liverpool and scored 61 goals in 82 appearances in Merseyside., Becoming one of the attackers the most deadly in the world. Share this post Share 3.1k actions Since the dazzling rise of Salah under Jurgen Klopp, Mourinho is considered the man who foolishly judged that the Egyptian was not good enough. This is something that Manchester United boss, recently sacked, has again refuted. In an interview with beIN SPORTS on Thursday, Mourinho insisted: "First of all, I missed Salah because a lot of things were skewed, to identify myself as a coach who sold Salah, I'm the coach who bought Salah, that's the whole bad idea, we played Basel in Chelsea when he was a child, I analyzed them for a long time and I fell in love with this kid, I bought the kid, I pushed him At the time, we had some fantastic offensive players, Hazard and Willian, but I told them to buy that kid, he was more of a slicing winger than an attacker like he is now a lost child in London, lost in a new world, we wanted him to get better and better, but he thought he wanted to play right away. to lend in Italy, where football is tactical and physical La Fiorentina is a good team without the pressure of the title, but when the club decided to sell it, it was not me. I bought it, I did not sell it. My relationship with him was and still is good. I think he does not regret it because everything went well for him and the progress went well for him. He wanted to play every week. Mourinho also seemed to criticize Manchester United's management structure and the power of the players. He was upset to speak directly to United, but his answers to the questions will certainly give food for thought to fans around the world. club. Mourinho was fired on December 18th. The club was sixth in the standings and had scrambled with several stars of the first team, including Paul Pogba, the record holder. Indonesian football has been rocked by the passing of one its most iconic players, Choirul Huda, during an on-field collision with a team-mate.The 38-year-old, who had played his entire career at Indonesia Super League outfit Persela, collided with defender Ramon Rodrigues towards the end of the first half against Semen Padang. The goalkeeper rushed off his line to smother an attacking move from the opposition, but was unable to avoid his defender who was rushing back to clear his lines. The keeper was still conscious immediately after the incident, holding his cheeks and looking dazed on the floor, but the situation soon became critical.'He was still conscious and complained of pain in the chest,' one member of the medical team told Surya. 'Then he fell unconscious.'Medics tended to Huda after the collision and rushed to put him on a stretcher before he was driven away in an ambulance to the Regional General Hospital in Lamongan.Huda was declared dead at 5pm local time, surrounded by the Persela squad who were with him at the hospital.Persela head coach Aji Santoso confirmed afterwards that he had died at hospital and said his passing had impacted the team hugely.'All of the players finished the game and went to the hospital, where it was announced that Choirul Huda had died.'The loss of Choirul Huda has hit us all hard. We did not have time to a see a doctor, only to see his body.'Dr Zaki Mubarok, of the Lamongan General Hospital, said: 'He was just brought to the hospital still breathing, but he was lifeless at around 17:00.'Through our analysis, it was due to collision in the head and neck.'The keeper was a hugely popular figure in Lamongan. Having hailed from the region, he made his debut for Persela in 1999 and then became a regular fixture between the sticks. ✅ Breaking News - Caster Semenya's legal team slam IAAF leak before landmark hearing
✅ Breaking News - Caster Semenya's legal team slam IAAF leak before landmark hearing #Semenyas, #legal, #team, #slam, #IAAF, #leak, #landmark, #hearing, #Court, #Arbitration, #Sport Caster Semenya's legal team accused the IAAF of breaking an agreement ahead of the Court of Arbitration for Sport hearing that will determine if the double Olympic champion has to take medication to continue competing. The South African, 28, is in Lausanne to challenge the IAAF's introduction of revised eligibility rules that set a limit on testosterone levels in athletes with disorders of sexual development. The case will be heard until Friday.Semenya's lawyers reacted angrily to an IAAF press release that detailed its case and listed five experts it has called for the hearing, saying: 'This information should not have been released.' Share this article Share An IAAF spokesperson replied: 'The IAAF does not believe the list of witnesses it will be calling is confidential, just their evidence at CAS.'The IAAF said it was acting because it wants to 'empower girls and women' by maintaining a level playing field.' The female category in sport is a protected category,' it said.'For it to serve its purposes, which include providing females opportunities equal to males, it must have eligibility standards that ensure athletes who identify as female but have testes, and testosterone levels in the male range, at least drop their testosterone levels into the female range in order to compete at the elite level in the female classification.'This standard is necessary to ensure fair competition for all women. Indeed, without it, we risk losing the next generation of female athletes, since they will see no path to success in our sport.' How Semenya has been dogged by questions about her gender Two-time Olympic 800-meter champion Caster Semenya has been dogged by questions about her gender since shooting to fame in 2009.The South African, then aged just 18, stormed to World Championship victory in the 800 metres in Berlin but was then forced to undergo humiliating gender tests after exhibiting high levels of testosterone. Semenya has identified as a woman her entire life and her lawyer recently reiterated that the runner is 'unquestionably a woman'. The results of the tests were never officially made public, but it has been widely reported that the 28-year-old has an 'intersex' condition of hyperandrogenism giving her testosterone levels that are three times those usually found in women and approaching those of a man.It has also been widely reported that she was born with no womb or ovaries and instead, due to a chromosomal abnormality, internal testes. Semenya has not addressed those claims directly. She spent 11 months on the athletics sidelines while she had tests but was cleared to compete in 2010. By this time the International Association of Athletics Federations had set a testosterone threshold. It meant Semenya could run again if she took medicine to suppress her testosterone levels. The ruling was then challenged by Indian runner Dutee Chand, who also has hyperandrogenism. In 2015, the Court of Arbitration for Sport suspended the rules for two year Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-6718441/Semenyas-legal-team-slam-IAAF-leak-landmark-hearing-Court-Arbitration-Sport.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490&ito=1490

Breaking News - Tevez opens up on Messi and Ronaldo's training ground routine
Breaking News - Tevez opens up on Messi and Ronaldo's training ground routine #Carlos, #Tevez, #opens, #Lionel, #Messi, #Cristiano, #Ronaldos, #training, #ground, #routine Few stars get the chance to call Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo a team-mate during their career but Carlos Tevez had the luxury of both - and he has revealed some distinct differences between them. Having worked with a young Ronaldo at Manchester United - and Messi at international level - Tevez has plenty of training ground stories after spending time in close quarters. But while both are considered the best two players in world football, it appears they are distinctly different out on the training pitch, with Messi refining only his penalties. 'Lionel Messi, I never saw him in the gym,' the striker told depor.com. 'I've never seen him train in the stops or do technical exercises. 'It is all natural to him, but on penalties he trained: first he did not take them and now he shoots them all at the corner.' Ronaldo is known to be a relentless trainer - as explained previously by Patrice Evra when he went round for lunch - and Tevez concurs that the Portuguese is 'obsessed' with self-improvement. 'Cristiano always stopped in the gym after training: for him it is an obsession and, being the best in everything, he always arrived at work early,' he added. 'When the training was set for 9 in the morning I arrived at 8 and he was already there. Even if I arrived at 7.30 he was already there. 'I began to ask myself, "How can I get rid of this guy?" So one day I arrived at 6 but he was already there! Sleepy, but he was there.' Tevez, now 34 and playing back in his native Argentina with Boca Juniors, has witnessed both players rise to sheer superstardom, dominating Europe's premier club competitions season after season. Breaking News - Manchester City's Phil Foden enjoys extremely successful fishing trip
With a day off from watching World Cup action, Phil Foden decided to entertain himself by enjoying a fishing trip while on holiday in Spain. The Manchester City starlet soaked up the sun and warm weather with his close friends on Friday by going down to the Rio Ebro Chiprana near Zaragoza, known for its huge catfish. And it appears as if the 18-year-old - one of the brightest prospects in English football - enjoyed an extremely successful time at fishing, taking to Instagram to show off his massive catches in Spain. Foden uploaded five pictures from his fishing trip for his 239,000 Instagram followers all to see, which show off the huge catfish and carp he captured while on holiday. The highly-rated youngster, who had previously enjoyed a trip to Russia to take in the World Cup surroundings, captioned his popular social media post: 'Enjoying my time at fishing'. The catfish was introduced to the Ebro in the Seventies and it has prospered for three reasons. The water is warmer than in its native rivers, so it feeds and grows without pause for winter; a live fish is worth more to the tourist trade than a dead one, meaning most fishing is catch-and-release and finally, the river is full of food. This all allows the catfish, which feeds off pigeons and ducks, to reach a phenomenal size. On record, one catfish weighed in at an impressive 245lb (17.5st), and there had been nearly 130 catches of fish topping 200lb. Meanwhile, the Stockport-born attacking midfielder will be hoping his success continues when he returns to the football pitch once again for pre-season at City. City manager Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer and blooded Foden on a number of occasions during last season's Premier League winning campaign. City will be holding talks with Foden's representatives soon to thrash out terms on a new deal that is expected to double his £20,000-per-week salary. He is under contract until 2020 but the club are eager to secure the wonderkid on a fresh long-term deal. ✅ Breaking News - United duo Martial and Lingard set to return for Liverpool clash
✅ Breaking News - United duo Martial and Lingard set to return for Liverpool clash #Manchester, #United, #duo, #Martial, #Lingard, #set, #return, #Liverpool, #clash Manchester United have been handed a major boost with reports Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard could make a swift return to action. The in-form pair will miss Monday's FA Cup tie at Chelsea after being injured against Paris Saint-German last week.Caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ruled the pair out for 'two to three weeks' after the 2-0 defeat in the Champions League. Share this article Share But Daily Mirror reports the injuries - a groin problem for Martial and a hamstring issue for Lingard - are not as bad as first thought. And the pair could even return for next Sunday’s huge Premier League showdown with bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.   That would be a major boost for United, who are desperate to dent the Merseyside club’s hopes of a first title for 29 years and boost their own chances of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League.Martial and Lingard suffered their injuries towards the end of the first-half against PSG, their enforced withdrawal a major factor in United’s defeat, which has left them facing a Champions League last 16 exit for the second year running. Both are ruled out of the FA Cup fifth found tie at Chelsea, with struggling Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku set to come in for them.Solskjaer has challenged his players to bounce from his first defeat in 12 games in charge when they take on Chelsea. ‘You don't panic because you've lost a game,’ he added. ‘You don't change everything. It doesn't change the mind set at all.‘I hate losing games, the boys hate it. They've been down, but there's no point dwelling on it. There are big games with good teams coming up and we need to dust ourselves down.‘You've got to bounce back at this club. You always have challenges and away against Chelsea is tough. We know there was a spell against PSG, seven or eight minutes, we lost our way apart from that we weren't too bad.‘We need to keep working at the way we play football. We want to go down to Chelsea, we want to have Liverpool here and impose ourselves on those games. There are quite a few other teams with injuries so you have to adapt to that.’ Share this article Share Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6715479/Manchester-United-duo-Martial-Lingard-set-return-Liverpool-clash.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490&ito=1490

Breaking News - Rugby World Cup in 2019 could be last to host 20 teams
Breaking News - Rugby World Cup in 2019 could be last to host 20 teams #World, #Cup, #2019, #host, #20, #teams, #plans, #possible, #increase, #tournament, #size The 2019 World Cup might be the last to host 20 teams as rugby chiefs want to echo their football counterparts and expand future tournaments. The same number of teams have contested the competition since 1999 - often with a number of whipping-boys making up the numbers. But with Japan causing the greatest upset of all-time in 2015, beating South Africa 34-32 in Brighton, World Rugby are hoping for more competitive Tier 2 nations as they plot to increase the tournament to 24 teams. And the expansion - while not yet formalised - could happen as early as the France tournament in 2023, if there are enough teams that merit inclusion. 'We're always looking from an expansive point of view rather than reducing so it's just a question of when rather than if,' said World Rugby chief executive Brett Gosper. 'The tendency for us is to try and look to expand. It's growing the global game, it's getting interest from fans and commercial interest in new markets, in order to grow the sport. 'We want to make sure the teams are competitive enough to move to a 24-team tournament.' And Alan Gilpin, tournament director of the 2019 World Cup, agreed: 'We are definitely looking at expansion not contraction. It's about adding more teams to the World Cup for us. 'The qualification process, there's challenges in that and the global calendar is very congested. We'd love to move to 24 teams.' FIFA want to expand their World Cup to 48 teams, from 32, but the 2019 cricket World Cup in England will only feature 10 sides - not the usual 14. At the moment the 2023 Rugby World Cup is set to feature 20 nations, but that may be reconsidered after next year's competition in Japan. Asked if smaller nations could force their hand by performing well Gosper added: 'It would give courage and impetus to that. 'The Rugby World Cup board and the executive committee consider these things. We could still opine and change that between now and 2023. 'All of 2023 is on the basis of 20 teams. To step up to 22 or 24, whichever we decided was right, there would be significant adjustment in the planning that's already taken place.' If the World Cup was expanded the number of one-sided matches would be a pertinent concern. In 2015, for example, Uruguay only scored 30 points in their four games against England, Australia, Fiji and Wales, conceding 226. In Japan one of Germany, Hong Kong, Kenya or Canada will face the All Blacks and South Africa. Those teams are playing in a repechage tournament in France this November, and World Rugby has said they will give the nation that qualifies for the final spot all the support they can to make sure they do not get thrashed in 2019. 'We are confident that team that qualifies will be competitive enough, even against the All Blacks,' said Gopser. 'We'll work hard in the period that that team qualifies to ensure they've got all the technical coaches, as we do at each World Cup, to make sure that team is well coached, well surrounded, well trained Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-6153133/World-Cup-2019-host-20-teams-plans-possible-increase-tournament-size.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ito=1490&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - Roma president jokes they want Messi despite hiring Barcelona chief
Roma president James Pallotta has joked that they still want Lionel Messi as an apology for Barcelona snatching Malcom from under their noses last month. The Italians recently hired Francesco Calvo as the new chief revenue officer after he left the Catalan giants last week. The two clubs were embroiled in a transfer war after Roma were close to signing Malcom from Bordeaux last month but lost out at the last minute after Barca convinced the Brazilian to join them instead, leaving the Italian side furious. In the aftermath, the Spanish side apologised for the move before Pallotta quipped: 'Yesterday Barcelona apologised for the Malcom transfer but we do not accept their apologies unless they sell us Messi.' Since Roma have hired Calvo, Pallotta revisited the subject by making light of the situation by joking again: 'This changes nothing. We still want Messi!' Roma's official Twitter account then posted a mock up of the Argentinian talisman in their club colours. The club also shed light on more details surrounding Calvo's appointment, who told the club's official website: 'I am very excited about joining AS Roma. This is a club with a tremendous vision for the future and represents one of the most innovative and interesting opportunities in the world of sports marketing. 'This is an exciting time for both Roma and Serie A, with the league showing very positive signs of growth, and I'm sure we have all the ingredients here to be successful in Italy and around the world.' Messi signed a new deal with Barcelona back in November which sees him earn £500,000 a week with the club slapping a huge buyout clause of £626million on the forward. Breaking News - Real Madrid 'monitoring' Raheem Sterling's situation at Man City
Breaking News - Real Madrid 'monitoring' Raheem Sterling's situation at Man City #Real, #Madrid, #monitoring, #Raheem, #Sterlings, #contract, #situation, #Manchester, #City Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on Raheem Sterling's contract situation at Manchester City. The 23-year-old has less than two years left on his current deal and has previously said he would be open to discussing a move away from the Etihad. 'It would be nice to play abroad,' Sterling said last year. 'It would be a great experience. Spain's attractive. Anywhere the weather is nice really.' And, according to ESPN, there is willingness from both parties for Sterling to sign a new deal at the club – but Real Madrid are closely monitoring the state of play. Sterling put pen to paper on five-year contract back in 2015 when he moved from Liverpool for £49million. But as yet there has been no sign of a new deal for the England international, despite the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero penning extensions in the last year. City boss Pep Guardiola, however, has waxed lyrical about the player and, back in August, said the club will do their best to keep him. 'We are delighted with him and would like Raheem to stay,' Guardiola said this summer. 'We'll do our effort to make him feel we count on him. And we count on him. We arrived after a difficult season [two years ago] and I told him I want to help him and would like him to be happy. 'In the end, the agents may not have agreements and that may not happen. But he knows and his agent knows we like him and want him a lot.' As yet, there has been no contact between the clubs regarding the player. However, should City allow Sterling's contract to run down further, the La Liga giants will certainly have their interest piqued.
