Breaking News - Ronaldinho's son joins Cruzeiro... but tried to 'HIDE identity'
Ronaldinho's son attempted to hide his identity during his trial with Brazilian side Cruzerio. The Brazilian icon's son, Joao Mendes, is just 13 but has been making waves while progressing through the youth ranks. He trialled with Paris Saint-Germain, one of his father's many clubs, at their training base in the Brazilian capital Brasilia before trying out for Cruzeiro, whose senior side play in the top flight. But, according to Brazilian outlet Globoesporte, Mendes wanted to gain his place in the side through meritocracy, rather than the club's top brass selecting him due to his father's name. Globo, who appear to have blown Mendes' cover, claim the youngster 'charmed the scouts' during his trial there but owing to the fact he is just 13, he is too young to sign a contract. Mendes is the son Janaina Nattielle Mendes, a former dancer who was married to the Barcelona great in 2004, but their marriage only lasted for two years and ended in 2007. His mother, however, is reportedly the one who decides Joao's future. The Cruzeiro trainee certainly appears to have been passed on some of his father's otherworldly footballing talent. Indeed, it is a story to keep a close eye on. Breaking News - Terens Puhiri might be the fastest player in he world
Terens Puhiri started this week as an anonymous footballer plying his trade in the Indonesian First Division for Borneo FC, but that is set to change after footage of his latest goal went viral. The 21-year-old's strike against Mitra Kukar has been causing a stir on social media because of the dramatic pace he displays in the process.Starting well in his own half, Puhiri goes from a standing start to tapping to ball into the opposition's net in under ten seconds. It was enough evidence for many Twitter users to speculate whether he may be the fastest player in world football. Not only does he display incredible pace, Puhiri also shows composure to knock it past the last defender and even evades the goalkeeper's desperate attempt to bring him down before passing the ball into an empty net.Owing to a lack of technology in Indonesian football, we may never know exactly how fast Puhiri ran on his way to scoring Borneo's third goal of the evening, but video evidence suggests he may have beaten the Premier League's fastest ever player, Leroy Sane. The Manchester City player was clocked at a top speed of 35.48 kilometres per hour (22.05 mph) earlier this season, which was the fastest time ever recorded in England's top flight. To put that in perspective, at that sustained speed Sane would finish a 100 metre sprint in a smidgen over 10 seconds, a time only world-class sprinters can achieve. And let's not forget that his record was set on grass rather than an athletics track.Puhiri may have a long way to go before he is being compared to Sane in other aspects of his game, but there will no doubt be some scouts from European clubs making their way to Borneo FC as we speak. Breaking News - Pitch is laid at Tottenham's new stadium
Breaking News - Pitch is laid at Tottenham's new stadium #Tottenhams, #new, #stadium, #moves, #big, #step, #closer, #completion, #pitch, #laid Tottenham's new stadium has taken an enormous step towards completion with the delivery of the new pitch. The rolls of turf, which have been imported from Holland, arrived at the start of the week and are now being meticulously laid out as the new White Hart Lane arena begins to look more like home. Such is the club's attention to detail, members of the groundstaff have been based out in Holland for the past two months to ensure the surface arrived in pristine condition. The pitch is a hybrid of natural grass reinforced with polypropylene strands and is very similar to the playing surface at the old White Hart Lane. In an indication of the immense logistical operation involved, the turf is being transported to London in 23 refrigerated lorries over the next three days. Each roll of turf weighs 1.5 tonnes and has dimensions of 2.4m wide by 12m long. Specialised equipment is needed to unroll each strip of turf, with the club's webcams at the stadium showing work starting from the outside and then working into the centre. It will take up to four weeks for the turf to properly bed in and keeps Spurs on target to move into their new 62,062-capacity home for their Premier League fixture against Burnley on December 15. Earlier in the summer, three retractable trays were installed beneath the pitch. They will slide back underneath the stadium's south stand when NFL games are played on an artificial surface that has been placed underneath the grass. The last week of September saw the safe standing rails and seats installed into the home end of the stadium. Spurs were originally meant to move into the £850million stadium back in August but a series of delays pushed this back as they continued to play the bulk of their home fixtures at Wembley. They even had to play their third round Carabao Cup tie against Watford at Stadium MK last week. Spurs will be back at Wembley on Wednesday night when they host Barcelona in the Champions League. Breaking News - Liverpool chief reveals Anfield expansion plans
Liverpool still retain plans to develop the Anfield Road End and convert their home into a 60,000-seater stadium, according to chief executive Peter Moore. The Main Stand was developed in 2016 to add 10,000 seats to the club's home, but plans to further develop the ground have yet to take shape. But Moore insists the club have not given up hope of taking capacity beyond the current 54,074.He told Sky Sports:' As you know we have a permit for the Anfield Road end for September 2019 to add maybe another 6,000 seats which will bring us up to 60,000 here.'I also know from living here, for every Liverpool ticket there is 10 people who want to buy it.'We totally get what we need to do. We're going to do what we did with the Main Stand as an operating group, which is look at what we need to do in a measured manner.'Moore understands the need for Liverpool to keep pace with their Premier League rivals, with Tottenham set to move into their new 61,000 capacity stadium next season. At just under 55,000, Anfield's size still trails that of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal. He added: 'We'll look at what investment the ownership needs to put in. We're a fan-first organisation, I can re-assure people we're going to look at this on top of everything else we are doing.'As you know, we're leaving Melwood, we're consolidating to Kirkby, and we're focusing on using our capital very wisely and yes, we're looking very closely at Anfield Road expansion.' Breaking News - Woman wins £574,278.41 from £1 football accumulator bet
A woman with little interest in football has managed to win £574,278.41 from a £1 accumulator bet.The unnamed 58-year-old housewife put together a 12-team football accumulator, which she only bets on because she is sick of having to deal with her husband and son watching football on television every weekend. Most of the teams selected on the betting slip were odds against outsiders. And one of the results only came in during the 92nd minute as Steve Cook scored for Bournemouth at Newcastle. There was no skill or knowledge involved in the selection process either. Her son read out the weekend's fixtures and the woman picked 12 teams from the sound of their name alone.Carli Faulkner, the employee from William Hill's Leysdown-on-Sea shop who paid out the bet, said she was delighted for the winner.Faulkner told The Metro: 'It is incredible that the lady got them all up. Usually customers laugh when they see a payout figure on the bottom of their slip like £574,000, but this just goes to show it can happen.'They will be having a cracking Christmas and I am delighted for them as it's real girl power landing a bet like that. My biggest ever payout before this was around £25,000.'William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: 'Apparently, the lady's husband had been doing the £1 weekend acca since he was 18, so 40 years of practice on football punting.'His wife started doing the same bet about six years ago, so she certainly had lady luck on her side as her hubby has never had a win anything like that.'It just goes to show if you can't beat them join them and the payout in this case is absolutely fantastic.'We wish them well.'In my 15 years in the business working for William Hill I have never encountered a bigger football win by a female punter for just a quid.' Breaking News - West Indies batsman Shai Hope was schooled in East Sussex
AutoNews- One Englishman was left beaming with pride when Shai Hope's devotion to crease occupation secured an historic Test match victory and a place in the first-class record books. For Hope's historic Headingley hundreds reminded Alan Wells, who had the most fleeting of associations with Test cricket himself in the mid-90s, of an early episode in their relationship at Bede's, an independent school nestled in the countryside of East Sussex. One that confirmed his pupil was at odds with both his 16 years and the Twenty20 generation into which he was born, as a devoted disciple of the art of batsmanship rather than a Bajan braggadocio. Beneath the Cantona collars lurked a serious talent.'His approach to practice was exemplary. I remember stopping him before he went into a net once and asking him what his objective was for that session. He told me it was the same as every other time he walked in. I said: "What's that?" His answer: "I never want to get out".'The high price the 23-year-old placed on his wicket at Leeds was integral to West Indies' win and, strikingly, the first occurrence of a player celebrating three figures twice in a match since first-class cricket was first played there in 1890. It was Hope's coming of age as an international player, a journey accelerated by his time as a sixth form boarder at Bede's.Since 2010, Wells, the school's director of cricket, has regularly headed out to Bridgetown to hand-pick a scholar for a programme jointly funded with the Barbados Cricket Association. Hope was his first draft.'What stood out about Shai? His passion for the game - it's in his blood with his brother Kyle and father Ian - his determination to improve, and after watching him practise I knew he would be willing to work really hard, to sacrifice a lot to fulfill his potential.'Bede's has a rich cricket pedigree. Their Under-15 team were crowned national champions this summer. Wells' eldest son Luke – the Sussex left-hander, who has struck 15 first-class hundreds – and Middlesex's England Lions spinner Ollie Rayner are former first XI captains.Despite being an outsider, Wells identified Hope to follow in their footsteps, and appointed him captain for both his years at the school.'He was a very mature cricketer, and a very natural leader because of his obvious determination to succeed through hard work. He was therefore a great role model for everyone that came into contact with him,' Wells said.'We will never forget him for the wonderful young man he was but also the lasting legacy he has left. In Sussex schools cricket people still talk about Shai and some of the innings he played against Eastbourne College and Ardingly College. The people that witnessed them have not forgotten.'Particularly one against Ardingly in which he struck 178 not out and took Abi Sakande, an England Under-19 at the time and now on the Sussex staff, apart.'Shai didn't think he was bowling fast enough at him, so he stood about two metres down the pitch so it would come on a bit quicker, and he just kept smacking him into the trees for six – it was just extraordinary,' Wells recalls. The fact that the pair remain in close contact is '100% a reflection on him as a character' according to Wells: 'He still sends me birthday wishes and Christmas greetings, stuff like that. I am so proud of him and his achievements.'Yesterday morning's text message reflected fatigue. Wells' response was to remind his former pupil of the offer made at the start of West Indies' tour – a ticket with his name on it for the series finale at Lords. -------------------------------------------------- Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-4837842/West-Indies-batsman-Shai-Hope-schooled-East-Sussex.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - New Zealand 22-28 Tonga: David Fusitua scores hat-trick
The grudge match between New Zealand and Tonga at the Rugby League World Cup was always going to feature plenty of aggression and intensity. What we didn't expect was so much of it before the match had even started. The two adversaries produced spine-tingling war dances ahead of their group stage fixture in Hamilton and went - quite literally - head to head. The Kiwis were the first to perform their traditional challenge - the Haka - and, led by captain Adam Blair, marched right up to the Tongan line.It ended with the New Zealand players screaming into the faces of their rivals.Cronulla Sharks star Andrew Fifita and the Melbourne Storm’s Nelson Asofa-Solomona had their faces pressed against each other before there was a shove and the teams separated. The Tongans then responded with their sipi tau fronted by North Queensland Cowboys player Jason Taumalolo. This was a fiery performance in itself, although the Tongans - perhaps wisely - decided to keep their distance from the New Zealand players to avoid a full flare-up.Instead, they channelled their aggression during the match, storming back from 16-2 down at half-time to claim a shock 28-22 win over the world's No 1 ranked nation. The whole spectacle thrilled a capacity crowd of 25,000 at the Waikato Stadium, with Tongans actually outnumbering local fans despite the game being played in New Zealand.Winger David Fusitua was the Tongan hero as his hat-trick of tries inspired the fightback and earned them a World Cup quarter-final with Lebanon. It means the Kiwis, as Group B runners-up, will face a last-eight showdown with Fiji while Tonga loom as England's potential semi-final opponents.Tonga enjoyed most of the early pressure but only had a penalty from Sio Siua Taukeiaho to show for their efforts and the Kiwis soon began to demonstrate their superior creativity.Left winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak produced a clinical finish midway through the first half to nudge New Zealand ahead and right winger Jordan Rapana went over in the other corner eight minutes later.Hooker Danny Levi also went close for the Kiwis before Tonga winger Daniel Tupou had a try disallowed for a forward pass.It looked a crucial and controversial decision when, four minutes later, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck accepted an offload from centre Brad Takairangi to grab a try that, with Johnson's goal, opened up a 14-point lead.Undeterred, Tonga dominated the third quarter and, after centre Konrad Hurrell went close, Fusitua leapt high to touch down Toa Lolohea's high ball for his first try.Lolohea hit the woodwork with the conversion but he was on target to convert Fusitua's second try after 58 minutes to bring his side to within four points. The pivotal moment came on the hour when Lolohea went over for an interception try and three minutes later Warrington-bound forward Ben Murdoch-Masila broke clear to get full-back Will Hopoate over. When Tuivasa-Sheck went over for his second try after 71 minutes it set up a nervous finish but Fusitua settled it with his third try three minutes from the end. Breaking News - All Blacks Piutau and Halai want to play for Tonga in 2019
All Blacks Charles Piutau and Frank Halai want to switch their allegiance to Tonga — and face England at the World Cup.The Pacific Islanders want World Rugby to loosen the eligibility rules to allow capped players to return to tier-two nations. An identical policy has been introduced in rugby league and the Mail on Sunday understands Ma'a Nonu and Victor Vito could also make themselves available for Samoa under the proposals.'If there's a way to do it, I want to give something back and play for Tonga at the 2019 World Cup,' Piutau told the Mail on Sunday.Tonga are in the same pool as England for the World Cup.'I have told the Tongan coach I would be on board if there's a way to do it,' Piutau continued.'If our sport followed the rugby league model, it would be a massive boost for the Pacific Islands and it would make the world stage competitive again.'There's a lot of wasted talent. The rugby league boys put Tonga back on the map and union should do the same thing.'Piutau, 26, will become the highest paid rugby union player in the world when he joins Bristol next season for £1million per year. His former team-mate Halai said he would follow suit.'Tier-two countries need a boost,' Halai said. 'I would switch to Tonga if I had the chance.'No Pacific Island team have reached a World Cup final and a policy change could result in a significant shift of power. It would make eligible a host of Europe-based Polynesians, including former junior All Black Nick Williams.'I would love to go back and play for my motherland, Samoa,' Williams told the Mail on Sunday. 'There are a couple of hundred Polynesians who would jump at the chance.'I played for the junior All Blacks over a decade ago and that's tied me down. I would love the rules to change.'Do people want a two-horse race between England and the All Blacks or do they want to see five or six teams competing? The big dogs need some competition.'Vito, the 33-cap All Black with Samoan ancestry, added: 'I made my bed with the All Blacks so I wouldn't want to take away the opportunity or development of a player who deserves it more, but I would love to play for Samoa.'Samoa are yet to qualify for the World Cup and are on the brink of bankruptcy. Former All Black Sam Tuitupou believes the change could rescue the nation from financial strife.'Samoa have been declared bankrupt so if Ma'a Nonu or Steven Luatua came on board, that would attract a bit of sponsorship,' said Tuitupou. 'If we don't have guys like Steven and Charles Piutau competing at the World Cup, then we can't say it's a showcase of the world's best talent.'Wycliff Palu, the 35-year-old, 58-cap Wallaby No 8, added: 'If I was a couple of years younger, I'd definitely have put my hand up. It would be good for rugby.' Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-5139769/All-Blacks-Piutau-Halai-want-play-Tonga-2019.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - Nasser Hussain: Shai Hope gives England selectors a lesson
AutoNews- That is one of the great turnarounds in cricket – and, arguably, in any sport. To walk off the field at Edgbaston having lost 19 wickets in a day, then come here and chase down 322, is a phenomenal effort. I doff my cap to West Indies. And what about Shai Hope? He came into this game averaging 18 in Tests, so if he had been English he would have been dropped ages ago. But the two hundreds he made here are a reminder that if you stick with someone for long enough, you never know what might happen.Kraigg Brathwaite, too, showed a lot of composure and character. These are two calm and mature young men.Given the events at Edgbaston, where West Indies were a rabble, it reflects even better on their efforts.England may look at Hope in particular and realise they must continue with their policy of giving batsmen a decent run.For that reason, Tom Westley should get another chance at Lord’s to prove that he is good enough at this level.West Indies stuck with their youngsters despite the flak they were getting and it has produced one of the greatest wins in their history.Much was made of West Indies’ white-ball players, going off to the IPL and leaving the Caribbean behind but the reaction when the winning runs were scored showed that the red-ball game means a lot to these youngsters. It’s great to see.As for England, I had no problem at all with Joe Root’s declaration on the fourth evening. In fact, I think he got it spot on.Previous captains would probably have batted on, but everyone expected the pitch to deteriorate, and Root had the likes of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad at his disposal — and Moeen Ali to bowl on a pitch we all thought might help him.Where England really lost this game was in scoring only 258 on the first day, and that stemmed from the inconsistency of their top order. It was always going to catch up with them at some point but nobody thought it would be now. Then, when they bowled, they were not full enough — which is a crime at Headingley. Perhaps they just took their eye off the ball a little.Lord’s suddenly becomes a huge game — which is brilliant for Test cricket. -------------------------------------------------- Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-4834350/Nasser-Hussain-Shai-Hope-gives-England-selectors-lesson.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele in race for El Classico clash
Ousmane Dembele could be in line for an El Classico return with the Frenchman's recovery moving quicker than expected. After his dream move was tarnished by a severe hamstring injury in September - just his second La Liga appearance - the 20-year-old could make his long awaited comeback against Real Madrid before the close of the year.Dembele was originally ruled out for at least three months - leaving him sidelined until January - but after a successful procedure, Spanish newspaper Marca has reported that the youngster could make his comeback sooner.Barcelona face their third El Classico of the season - after missing out on the Spanish Super Cup in August over two legs - on December 23 at the Bernabeu and will hope to be in a position to further extend there current lead over Real Madrid. The Catalan giants lead La Liga by four points currently, with Valencia their closest challengers, and are eight points clear of rivals Real in third.Dembele is one of a handful of key absences for Valverde, alongside midfielders Sergi Roberto and Andre Gomes to name just two, but it has been considered that the lengthy absence could have been avoided.Following his successful procedure, Sportsmail reported last month that his surgeon, Sakari Orava, felt a minor hamstring issue may have been covered up by the Frenchman, who was being pressured as Neymar's replacement.'Maybe it was a sin of youth not to say that he felt pain in that area before,' Orava told Mundo Deportivo last month.'The pressure he'd been exposed to after his signing for Barca also could have influenced it.'Nonetheless, with the damage done, Dembele has been forced to endure the lengthy rehabilitation programme's ordered by the Barcelona medical staff, and is now in a race to the Bernabeu. Breaking News - Marcus Rashford spotted out in with girlfriend Lucia Loi
Breaking News - Marcus Rashford spotted out in with girlfriend Lucia Loi #Manchester, #United, #star, #Marcus, #Rashford, #spotted, #girlfriend, #Lucia, #Loi Marcus Rashford may have been absent from Manchester United's win over Watford on Saturday, but that didn't stop him celebrating with a relaxing Sunday afternoon out with his girlfriend. The 20-year-old, who was suspended for the 2-1 win at Vicarage Road, was pictured walking through the leafy Altrincham suburb of Hale with his partner Lucia Loi. They were heading to the popular Italian eatery Piccolino, where they enjoyed lunch together as Rashford made the most of his afternoon off from training. The restaurant has grown used to the stars of Manchester's two biggest clubs dropping in and recently hosted Rashford's team-mates Chris Smalling, Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay. It would have been the perfect way for Rashford to forget about a troublesome week in which is has found himself in the spotlight through no fault of his own. Indeed, it was Jamie Carragher's suggestion that he should leave Old Trafford that sparked a debate that angered Jose Mourinho. The Sky Sports pundit, speaking after Rashford scored the winning goal for England against Switzerland last week, said the striker may have to switch clubs to reach his potential and suggested Everton as a possible destination. Mourinho hit back in his press conference prior to the Watford match, coming armed with a ton of statistics that seemingly prove Rashford is getting the required amount of playing time. 'In the season 2016-17, Marcus Rashford played 32 Premier League matches and 11 Europa League matches including the final. Three in the FA Cup,' he said. 'He had 53 appearances. But if you want minutes, he played 3,068 minutes. If you divide that by 90 it is 34.2 matches of 90 minutes in 2016-17. 'In 2017-18 he played 35 Premier League matches, eight Champions League, five FA Cup — including the final — three League Cup and the Super Cup. 'He played a total of 52 matches with 2,676 minutes. Divide that by 90 minutes and it is 29.7 matches. So in all, 105 appearances, 5,744 minutes, 63.7 matches of 90 minutes — including five finals.' Further backing up Mourinho's point, statistics compiled by Opta show Rashford has played 108 games since the Portuguese took charge in 2016. No other Manchester United player has featured more. Share this article Share 1.9k shares In retaliation, Ronaldo repeated the gesture once Juve were confirmed victors at the end of the frenetic second-leg encounter. When asked about the incident afterwards in his post-match interview, Simeone simply replied: 'He will have seen how I did it at the Wanda Metropolitano and, like me, was trying to show his character. 'Cristiano Ronaldo is the best in the world, he can put in these performances on big nights,' Simeone added. Simeone was charged by UEFA and fined £17,000 for his antics following the first leg.It remains to be seen whether a similar course of action will be taken against Ronaldo.  Share this article Share 1.9k shares Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6801947/Diego-Simeone-refuses-criticise-Cristiano-Ronaldo-imitating-cojones-celebration.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490&ito=1490

Breaking News - Leinster 52-3 Wasps: Holders launch bid for fifth title with rout
Breaking News - Leinster 52-3 Wasps: Holders launch bid for fifth title with rout #Leinster, #52, #3, #Wasps, #Holders, #launch, #bid, #record, #fifth, #title, #eight, #try, #rout Hours after Storm Callum caused chaos for English visitors to Dublin, Wasps reaped the whirlwind at the RDS Arena on Friday night, as Leinster launched the defence of their European title by blowing away their Premiership opponents. The holders mean business. Leo Cullen’s side produced a flawless campaign to claim the continent’s marquee prize last season – and this thumping win ignited their crusade to claim it again; for a record fifth time. Wasps stood bravely in the path of the dark-blue juggernaut for much of the first half, but their resistance crumbled when their All Black fly-half, Lima Sopoaga, was shown a yellow card just before half-time. Leinster shifted from hard graft to show-boating. Some of their attacking play was breath-taking to behold; with Irish Lions combining to deadly effect. On this early evidence, they are rightly regarded as clear favourites for this 2018-19 Heineken Champions Cup. Wasps came into the game reeling from a series of early-season setbacks; the loss to injury of Joe Launchbury and Dan Robson – and the absence of Nathan Hughes due to suspension. They finished the game reeling from an onslaught which yielded a half-century for the rampant victors. ‘This will be a difficult place for anyone to win and there won’t be much money on anyone coming here and winning,’ said Dai Young, Wasps’ director of rugby. ‘I was disappointed with how we fell away in the last 20, 25 minutes, but I can understand why we did. ‘For big parts I was proud of some of our defensive work, but you can’t just keep doing that. They (Leinster) are pretty much the Ireland team – and they haven’t done too badly lately. You analyse them looking for weaknesses and there aren’t too many.’ The writing was on the wall from the sixth minute, when Sean Cronin scored an audacious, brilliant try. From a ruck on the Wasps 22, the Ireland hooker blasted clear and surged around Springbok full-back Willie le Roux to touch down. Johnny Sexton converted and the capacity crowd prepared for merry mayhem. Instead, Wasps held the line well, under pressure. Sopoaga kicked a penalty in the 11th minute, but it was his sin-binning for a deliberate knock-on which gave Leinster a numerical advantage and they capitalised. Robbie Henshaw threw a long pass left to James Lowe, who cut inside and was tackled close to the line, Tadhg Furlong blasted on and from the ensuing ruck, Luke McGrath picked up and darted over. Sexton’s conversion seemingly put the contest beyond doubt. Two minutes after the break, Cullen’s men twisted the knife in English wounds. Henshaw’s inside pass released Lowe on a slaloming midfield run which ended with the Kiwi scoring from 50 metres out. Sexton added the extras again. It was becoming a procession and an exhibition. When Leinster scored try No 4, their long-range raid featured Furlong making an outside break and off-load, as if to show Cronin that he wasn’t the only home front-rower with a broad repertoire. Lowe provided the acce Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-6271079/Leinster-52-3-Wasps-Holders-launch-bid-record-fifth-title-eight-try-rout.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ito=1490&ns_campaign=1490

Breaking News - Kaiser! The Greatest Footballer Never to Play Football - review
Sometimes it is nice to know that even the biggest anorak does not know every tale on planet football. Kaiser! The Greatest Footballer Never to Play Football is a wonderful reminder that this game can still throw up stories unlike any other. In the same way that Searching for Sugarman, the story of South Africa’s Bob Dylan Rodriguez, befuddled the minds of music lovers when it was released, the life of Carlos Henrique Raposo, also known as Carlos Kaiser, will entertain even the most minimal of football fans. Released in cinemas this week, this documentary that cleverly blends interviews with acted out scenes tells the story of the footballer who did not play football. Picture it. Your side has signed a new striker. Glowing reports appear in the press. He comes with endorsements from the likes of Renato Gaucho. You can’t wait to see him on the pitch. And then the injuries start to crop up. He never seems to be anywhere near playing. One day, there’s excitement. He appears on the bench. The manager sends him to warm up. And then, rather than taking a risk and revealing the truth – that he does not have an iota of football talent – he decides to climb over the fence and have a punch up with fans over a perceived slight. When the owner of the club, a local gangster, threatened him with a gun, he explained the fan had questioned the owner’s sexuality. Rather than being shot, the player earns a new three-month deal. Stories like this come rolling out of the film, which is fundamentally about a man who said: ‘If I had to symbolically kill my grandma not to play, I would’. Yet Kaiser managed to play for a series of Brazil’s biggest clubs. Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco da Gama all bought into the con and handed him contracts. It is enough to leave you watching with your jaw agape. The laughs also come as you find out how, exactly, he has managed to avoid revealing how bad he is at football on yet another occasion. The film benefits from the people telling the stories. It is not just the word of Kaiser, who is clearly something of an unreliable narrator. Instead, you hear the thoughts of Carlos Alberto Torres, Renato Gaucho and Bebeto, all of whom were involved in his playing career. It is Torres who has one of the standout lines of the early part of the film: ‘He could do everything but the ball was his problem’. As another former team-mate puts it, ‘let’s say if he was studying for a degree, he would have nailed the theory side of being a footballer’. It is in stories from off the field that Kaiser shines, while avoiding any close interaction with the pitch. ‘He was the class pimp’ – knowing women in every city while travelling with the team. He used his looks and his slight resemblance to former Brazil international Gaucho to convince the women of Rio De Janeiro that he was a top class player and therefore worth spending time with. Kaiser was one of the kings of Rio’s nightlife. That is part of the appeal of this film – the slow r

Breaking News - Samoa rugby bankrupt: Prime Minister asks citizens to help
The Samoa Rugby Union (SRU) has been declared 'bankrupt' by the country's Prime Minister Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi.Malielegaoi, who is also chair of the SRU, has been taking part in a radio marathon to raise awareness and funds for the team that is set to face both England and Scotland in upcoming Autumn Internationals. The RFU have announced it will make a goodwill payment of £75,000 to the Samoan Rugby Union. It is thought the Test will earn the English body up to £10million.Samoa had asked the RFU for £160,000 from their upcoming clash at Twickenham on November 25, but will receive less than half that amount. Scotland are also set to host the Pacific Islanders on Saturday.Samoa have been wrestling with their crippling debt for years, which at its highest reached £305,000 in 2015.They have since been able to reduce it to £147,000, but current World Rugby rules exacerbate the problems faced by Samoa and other Pacific Island sides, with hosts under no obligation to share any of their revenue with visiting Test sides inside international windows. It is a problem the governing body are keen to fix, but in the meantime, Samoa are relying on donations and charity from citizens in its own country.'They're begging the public for their financial support in today's radiothon,' reporter Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia told RadioNZ.'They did not say how much money they're looking to collect but they need hundreds of thousands of Tala.'The Rugby Union is broke so he (the Prime Minister) doesn't know how to put the situation financially of the Rugby Union.'The Union is broke and it's better for the SRU to get up and do something and to make people look at the SRU leading and trying to generate some funds through this radiothon to help the rugby development in the country.'Former Samoa and Wasps second row Daniel Leo responded to the declaration from Prime Minister Malielegaoi on Twitter, describing it as a 'dark day' for the country.'A dark day for the rugby world as PM announces Samoa officially Bankrupt, asking public dig deep and bail them out,' he wrote, before adding the hashtag #saveSamoa. Breaking News - Neymar defends showboating in PSG's Ligue 1 win vs Rennes
Neymar has defended his outrageous showboating during PSG's win over Rennes and claims he 'knows how to provoke opponents'.The Brazilian star made waves on social media after footage of him controlling the ball on his back and scooping the ball over an opponent trended on Twitter. Then in the same game he appeared to offer an opposition player a hand up, before pulling away at the last second.Neymar believes he was doing his bit to inject some excitement into a sport he claims has become 'a little boring.''Football is a little boring right now because we can't do anything,' he said after the 3-2 win on Tuesday night.'Everything is controversial. For example, I made a joke at the end by offering my hand and then pulling it away.'It will cause controversy, when it's the kind of thing I do with my friends. Why can't I do it with opponents? It was a joke."They provoked me, but I also know how to provoke, in my own way, with the ball and with my football."I'm not here to kick out, I don't know how to do that.'Neymar failed to hit the target as PSG secured their place in the Coupe de la Ligue final thanks to goals from Thomas Meunier, Marquinhos and Giovani Lo Celso.Kylian Mbappe saw red just after the hour mark, by which point the visitors were already three goals to the good. Breaking News - Joe Cokanasiga: The 17st wing who’s only 19!
Meet Ratu Josateki Tuivanuavou Waqanivalu Cokanasiga — most people call him Big Joe. His name translates as: Chief Joe, King of the new place, the warship with spears of the sun.All rather intimidating when matched to an enormous man. Cokanasiga pushes 6ft 4in tall and weighs 17st 9lb and the London Irish Exile is a winger, and 19 years old.He has a handy guide for commentators.‘The C becomes a TH in Fijian.‘If you are from a chiefly descent you can be called Ratu. My granddad was a chief and I was named after him, so I got the Ratu name.‘And Waqanivalu is our old family surname from cannibal times – but considered too aggressive to be used these days!’Cokanasiga may have been born in Suva, but all this is delivered from the gentle giant in a well-spoken, soft southern English accent – his upbringing is decidedly British. That is because father, Ilaitia, served in the Army’s Royal Logistic Corps. That job meant the family left the Pacific islands when Joe was three.Joe, sister Missy, seven years older, and brother Philip, three years younger, upped sticks to live in Mill Hill, then Abingdon, before moving to Monchengladbach as Cokanasiga approached his teens. By 14 Brunei was home.‘I was too young to remember Fiji,’ he adds.‘I used to run around shirtless apparently! My best childhood memories are from Germany. I loved it there.‘There was a big campus at General Headquarters. Every army base has a NAAFI (Navy, Army, Air Force Institutes) with English shops, so there is an Army Tescos! It kind of felt like living in England.‘I joined the football club and played centre back. Once we played Monchengladbach girls and I scored from the half-way line – I was meant to be clearing it but it went in!‘Surprisingly my passion for rugby started in Brunei. My dad played for the Army out there, I watched him before joining in. Then we played together for the club on the weekend in the centres.‘I let him do all the hard work and took the glory! He played very direct, loved running straight at people one-on-one.‘He would make a line-break then offload to me and mum would be on the sideline shouting at my dad to protect me.’These days sister Missy works for the Fiji High Commission in London, and Philip is a budding rugby player.Joe is the self-confessed ‘mummy’s boy’ who only started to love the game watching the 2013 Lions series as a 15-year-old.‘I saw George North pick up Israel Folau and after that I wanted to take it more seriously,’ he says.Fast-forward four years and Cokanasiga was touring Argentina with Eddie Jones and England. After moving back to Blighty he was picked up by Billy Clark, the former London Irish academy manager, just a couple of years ago.‘As soon as he saw my thighs he said: “yeah!”. I didn’t know whether to take that as a compliment or not!’ Cokanasiga laughs.Last season in the Championship he stunned London Scottish on his debut, scoring an outrageous try from his own 22, powering past a hapless defence carrying the ball in one hand above his head. After that he was part of the Six Nations Grand Slam-winning U20 national team but being picked in a senior England squad was beyond his wildest dreams.‘I thought there was no way I was going to go because I was in the Championship and had not played well enough to get a spot,’ he recalls.‘A couple of months before the announcement I was getting a haircut with the boys and got an email saying “England Rugby: Confidential” and I thought – what is this?‘It was from Eddie Jones saying 1

✅ Breaking News - Lionel Messi responds to Cristiano Ronaldo's challenge
✅ Breaking News - Lionel Messi responds to Cristiano Ronaldo's challenge #Lionel, #Messi, #responds, #Cristiano, #Ronaldos, #challenge, #join, #Italy Lionel Messi has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's challenge to leave Barcelona and renew their personal rivalry in the Italian league. The Portuguese had set Messi the challenge of proving his talents in a league other than La Liga after leaving Real Madrid for Juventus in a £100million move last summer. Ronaldo said: 'I played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal, in the national team, while he is still in Spain. Maybe he needs me more. 'For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy. I would like him to come to Italy one day. Like me, accept the challenge.' However Messi, whose Barcelona side currently sit top of the La Liga table, has emphatically responded to Ronaldo's suggestion. 'Accepting Ronaldo's challenge to join Italian football? I don't need any change,' the Argentine told Marca. 'I'm at the best team in the world. My challenges are renewed year after year. I do not need to change teams or leagues to set new goals. 'I am at home and I do not need to change.' Messi, 31, has scored 21 goals and contributed 13 assists for Barcelona so far this season, while Ronaldo has scored 13 goals and contributed seven assists since his arrival in Italy. Meanwhile, Messi has admitted he would love a reunion with Brazilian star Neymar at Barcelona. It has been suggested that Neymar will leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer with a potential return to the Nou Camp on the cards. 'We would love for him to come back for what it would mean, as much as a player as for the dressing room. 'We are friends, we had great moments, others not so much, but we passed a lot of time together. 'However it looks very hard for him to leave Paris. PSG won't let him quit.' Breaking News - Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler supports Woking
Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler has revealed he is a Woking fan.Tyler, who has been commentating on the Premier League for Sky Sports since 1992, has been criticised for showing bias towards Manchester United which has led to suggestions that he supports the Red Devils.Liverpool fans were left disgruntled by the way in which Tyler described Anthony Martial's goal on debut for United against their side back in September 2015.But the 72-year-old has quashed those views by saying he supports National League side Woking.'I don't do social media and this is one of the reasons why,' Tyler told The Mirror. 'They all think I support somebody. I support Woking and I am quite happy to say that.'How can I be a Man United fan when I've got excited about Aguero. All I do is react to the game.'I first went to Woking when I was eight years old and it was the first football I had ever seen.'I'm still in touch with the club although I coach at a level just below them so it's difficult to see them too much now. They've always been my team.'Tyler, who is first team coach of Hampton & Richmond Borough in the National League South, does not follow a Premier League team.'This thing where you have to have a Premier League team is garbage,' he said.'It's the accident of birth. It's the one thing that irks me when people say you must have a Premier League team, I absolutely, categorically don't.'It's a great bonus to not have a Premier League team. I'm probably the only commentator to not have a Premier League club.' Breaking News - Kieren Fallon and son plot extension to jockey's legacy
The crisp, clear light of a glorious winter’s day is beginning to fade when Kieren Fallon gets out of his car and walks across the lush grass at the top of Warren Hill to a spot where he can see all of Newmarket stretching out beneath him.He shields his eyes against the setting sun and points out the roof of the Rowley Mile racecourse grandstand in the middle distance. Many of his finest Classic triumphs took place there and the names of great horses he guided to victory such as King’s Best, Golan, Footstepsinthesand and Virginia Waters flit through his mind. His son, Cieren, walks along behind in his skinny jeans and well-polished, pointy black shoes that look to older eyes a little like winklepickers. The years have creased his dad’s countenance with suspicion and pain but the 18-year-old son has none of that. Cieren has a ready smile and an easy, amiable temperament. All the optimism of youth shines from his face.As his dad stands gazing over the gallops where he once rode out for Sir Henry Cecil and Sir Michael Stoute, Cieren fiddles with his phone for a minute and then presses it into my hand. There is an image on it he wants me to see, a prized picture of him and the six-time champion jockey that he says he had to work hard to engineer.‘It’s not often you see him laughing,’ says the son with a big grin. I stare at the photo for a second or two. It was taken at his dad’s favourite Chinese restaurant, near Cambridge. Cieren, in a pressed white shirt, has his left arm looped around his dad’s shoulder. Both men are beaming into the camera. It is a picture of happiness.Sometimes, it seems as though the two men are enjoying the times they never had when Cieren was a kid. He was away at boarding school in North Wales and his dad was consumed by his work, riding out early every morning and then rushing off to a race meeting in the afternoon and sometimes another in the evening. His father’s tempestuous marriage to his mother, Julie, who was also a fine jockey, was lost in the pursuit of more glories and the drug of winning and, when they split up, Julie moved back to her home in Wigan and brought up their three children there. The father still has an accent fashioned in County Clare. The son’s is made in Lancashire. Now, the two men are back together in Newmarket, testing each other’s boundaries like fathers and teenage sons do. ‘He never listens to me,’ says Fallon, 52. ‘Whenever I try to tell him something about racing, the first word out of his mouth is “But”.’The father’s career ended last year as he battled depression and realised he would never recover from the damage of the false race-fixing charges that were laid against him and which drained the spirit out of what remained of his ambition during a two-month Old Bailey trial a decade ago. But the son’s life in racing is just beginning. He tried every other sport he could before he gave in to his genes. He ran for North Wales at cross-country, he was a decent footballer and a good rugby player. But he knew all along that racing was in his blood. And when he first sat on a racehorse seven months ago, he realised immediately it would be the only thing for him.He has been riding out for the highly regarded Newmarket trainer William Haggas while being taught on the Equiciser mechanical horses at the British Racing School on the outskirts of the town. He has impressed so quickly that he will get his licence in January or March and become an apprentice jockey. In a few months, the Fallon name1

The squad were pictured arriving at Manchester Airport just hours after their 2-0 victory over Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon. The squad looked in good spirits after a penalty from Juan Mata and a strike from Romelu Lukaku sealed a fifth straight victroy for caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The four-day camp in the Gulf is designed on building on fitness and tactical familiarity. The team did the same last year and are looking to gain the edge ahead of Sunday's huge clash with Tottenham at Wembley. Solskjaer does not want his players to treat their time in Dubai as a mid-season break. 'I've had plenty of time to speak with them but we haven't had plenty of time to train,' he said, when explaining the reasoning behind arranging the mid-season training camp. 'It'll be a time to get some fitness work and work hard with them, so if any of the players think it's a holiday they're wrong. ✅ Breaking News - LTA blasted as Andy, Jamie and Judy are left out of glossy relaunch
✅ Breaking News - LTA blasted as Andy, Jamie and Judy are left out of glossy relaunch #Wheres, #Murray, #LTA, #blasted, #Andy, #Jamie, #Judy, #left, #glossy, #relaunch Britain’s most famous tennis family are on another collision course with the Lawn Tennis Association after being airbrushed from a glossy relaunch of the governing body.Jamie Murray struggled to contain his frustration after a 36-page document and video outlining a five-year plan made no mention of the two brothers’ achievements, nor of Judy Murray, GB’s highest-profile coach. Other lesser British players are featured, but the absence of Britain’s greatest player provoked anger and ridicule on social media. In a slightly surreal turn of events, even star comedienne and tennis enthusiast Miranda Hart joined in the criticism, saying they should have included images of Andy’s famous winning lob in the 2015 Davis Cup final. Share this article Share The latest LTA clanger follows on from the events of January in Australia, where the governing body took flak for failing to build a sufficient legacy after it looked like Andy might be retiring.‘I don’t know what they’re trying to do, their focus or strategy,’ said Jamie, after he had slipped to a second-round loss in the Miami Open on Sunday night.‘But I do know that it’s important to have role models for kids to look up to and aspire to be. I would assume that Andy certainly is a pretty big role model in this country, not just for tennis but across all sport. So it seems like an interesting decision not to showcase the one shining light in British tennis.‘It’s frustrating to continue talking about it. I don’t know why I feel like I should keep my mouth shut, but that’s the hassle you get for it when you open your mouth and say what you think.‘My mum knows what she is doing. Everybody involved in tennis in our country knows that she knows what she is doing. She knows how to get kids into tennis, give them the skills that they need and create opportunities in a fun environment.’Britain’s top doubles player also revisited the subject of the lack of investment in Scottish tennis, a longstanding bone of contention, saying it was ‘f****** annoying’.When Judy Murray saw the omission of her family from the publication pointed out on Twitter, she responded simply ‘Wow’.In January, Andy’s stark announcement about his hip turned into a prolonged spat over his legacy, not helped by the LTA being conspicuously low-key in paying tribute amid all the others that were flowing. It beggars belief that the governing body could allow themselves to be dragged into this argument. They have also been mocked on social media for their new logo, with a sloping ‘A’ at the end that makes it look like a rapidly plunging share price. The botched launch of the vision — which features many laudable aims such as opening the sport up to more people — is symptomatic of the way the organisation stumbles from one hapless episode to another under latest chief executive Scott Lloyd. It comes after it emerged last week that the pro-standard clay courts at the National Tennis Centre have been dug up as the clay season is about to start, with Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-6849197/Wheres-Murray-LTA-blasted-Andy-Jamie-Judy-left-glossy-relaunch.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490&ito=1490

Ousmane Dembele is closing in on a return to full fitness after seeing his start to life at Barcelona ruined by a serious hamstring problem. The 20-year-old suffered the injury against Getafe on September 16, less than three weeks after he had sealed a £96million move from Borussia Dortmund. There were initial fears that Dembele could be missing for up to three-and-a-half months, but he now appears to be on target to return before the end of the year.Last week Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that the first La Liga Clasico of the season - against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on December 23 - was a potential comeback date for the France star. And a video posted by Barca to Twitter on Thursday did little to dispel hopes of an early return for Dembele, who became the second most expensive player in history when he put pen to paper at the Nou Camp in August. The clip shows the former Rennes youngster going through a light jog at the club's training base as a member of staff watches on.In an accompanying article on their official site, Barcelona add that Dembele is 'well on the way to making a full recovery'.Dembele was making only his third appearance in a Barca shirt when he injured his hamstring in a 2-1 victory away at Getafe in mid-September.His debut came as a 68th minute substitute against Espanyol a week earlier and he marked it with an assist in a convincing 5-0 win.Shortly after being injured, Dembele claimed he would 'be back in two months' in an Instagram post, which would make his comeback only a couple of weeks away. ✅ Breaking News - Solskjaer 'accused United stars of playing the way Mourinho wanted'
✅ Breaking News - Solskjaer 'accused United stars of playing the way Mourinho wanted' #Ole, #Gunnar, #Solskjaer, #accused, #Man, #United, #playing, #way, #Jose, #Mourinho, #wanted, #Wolves, #defeat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has accused his Manchester United stars of reverting back to the way Jose Mourinho wanted them to play following their shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Wolves. The Norwegian boss channeled his inner-Sir Alex Ferguson and gave his own version of the hair-dryer treatment following the 2-1 defeat at Molineux.According to The Sun, Solskjaer lamented their slow build-up play in the changing rooms after the game before telling his squad to analyse their own performances during the international break. Share this article Share Following the result on Saturday, Solskjaer admitted that United had taken 'a big step backwards' after he suffered his second defeat in a row as the club's interim manager.Despite still being in the Champions League, Solskjaer saw the FA Cup as United's best chance of winning some silverware this season.'It was a big step backwards,' said the 46-year-old after the game, who suffered his first Premier League defeat at Arsenal last weekend.'That's the poorest performance since I've come here. We know that we played well against Arsenal last week and didn't get what we deserved, but we got what we deserved today.'The tempo wasn't high enough and we played into their hands. We never managed to put their keeper or defenders under pressure. There wasn't enough quality.' Asked if the positive impact of his arrival three months ago might be wearing off, Solskjaer replied: 'I think it's something natural. You can't perform to the top level every time.'It was still against a good team, don't forget that. Don't take anything away from Wolves' performance, even though we underperformed.'We're very disappointing tonight [Saturday] that we're not in the semis. I told the players the truth but, of course, you can't sit down and sulk too long. Everyone is disappointed but we have to move forward.'Solskjaer admitted the international break might have come at a good time for United, but vowed that his players would be ready to challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League and face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals when they come back.'The international break sometimes comes in handy,' he said. 'We would have loved to play again and put it right, but hopefully some of them will have good experiences with the national team and be ready to push again.'We're ready to go again after internationals, we've got so much to play for. We're in a great position in the league and in Champions League. Man United always find their good form in April and May.'We can't wait for the challenge for third and, of course, the big night when Barcelona come. There are so many highlights to look forward to. Don't worry about the players' attitude. When they come back they'll give it a good go.' Breaking News - Sir Michael Stoute admits Expert Eye is one of the best
Sir Michael Stoute has admitted Expert Eye is 'best two-year-old I have trained for a while' as the 10-time champion trainer aims to cap a resurgent season with victory in Saturday's Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.Success for the unbeaten son of Acclamation and first prize of almost £300,000 would lift Stoute above his career-best domestic prize money haul of £3.7million achieved in 2003.That was the year Stoute landed his last group-one two-year-old race with Kieren Fallon-ridden Red Bloom in the Fillies' Mile.Expert Eye is 8-13 favourite for the Dewhurst with Paddy Power after he landed the Group Two Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood by four and a half lengths.Immediately chasing him home that day were four subsequent winners including Mill Reef Stakes scorer James Garfield and Champagne Stakes winner Seahenge, a possible Aidan O'Brien-trained rival on Saturday.Stoute, whose only Dewhurst success was with Ajdal in 1986, said: 'Before Expert Eye ran we knew he was pretty smart. He is a good looking horse and very athletic and has been pretty natural from the beginning.'It was a very good performance at Goodwood and the form has worked out. We didn't know he would win like that but we knew he would win. He could not have done it any easier.'The option of running Khaled Abdullah-owned Expert Eye, who again will be ridden by Andrea Atzeni, in the Group One National Stakes at the Curragh last month was shelved when the colt picked up an infection. But Stoute said: 'We have had plenty of time to prepare him – there will be no excuses on that front.'Stoute's last British Classic success was Workforce in the 2010 Derby. Paddy Power make Expert Eye 4-1 for the 2018 2,000 Guineas. To enter the winter with a Classic favourite in his stable would be a fitting end to a Flat season again dominated by O'Brien with his 23 group-one wins but one in which Stoute has claimed both the Group One Eclipse and International Stakes with Ulysses. There is also the possibility of more top-level success.Ulysses is on course for next month's Breeders' Cup Turf, at which he could be joined by stablemate and 2016 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Queen's Trust.Poet's Word, winner of the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood and runner-up in the Irish Champion Stakes, runs in the Champion Stakes at Ascot a week on Saturday.Stoute said: 'I don't think we have ever had a battalion like Aidan's before. That's a fact. If you can't handle it, run away.'It's quite incredible really but I just get on with my job. I have won more group races this year than I have for a few years so I am having a resurgence.' Breaking News - Ivan Rakitic says His Wife Saved Him from Barcelona Attack
AutoNews Ivan Rakitic has revealed how he would have found himself and his family in the centre of the recent Barcelona attacks had it not been for his wife's intervention. In August, Barcelona became the latest victim of terror attacks that had been streaming through Europe. The attack saw a van drive through the streets of the picturesque Spanish city and run down innocent civilians and tourists, killing 13 and injuring 100.But the Barcelona and Croatian midfielder told Spanish news website Sport that he had planned to visit that area of Barcelona where the terror attack struck on the day, but after intervention from his wife, Raquel Mauri, returned home with his children.'I was very close to the recent terrorist attack in Barcelona, Rakitic told Croatian news agency 24 Sata in an exclusive interview. 'I went to the centre with my family and we had prepared to go to the place where the attack occurred.'I wanted to go there but my wife told me that it was a good day and that it was better for the girls to play in the park outside our house.'Thank God I listened. We were three or four minutes from the place where this horror happened.'The Croatian international takes to Instagram to publish images of his family regularly, with his most recent translating to: 'I love you princess @raquelmauri'The attack which Rakitic narrowly missed was the first of two. The nearby seaside town of Cambrils was also attacked by a vehicle, this time leaving one dead and six injured - two severely.'We sat in the car and headed to the house when my cell phone began to ring,' Rakitic continued. 'The family and many friends started calling me to see how we were ... The attack happened just then.'Rakitic can count himself lucky - while so many others were not so - while he travels with his Barcelona team-mates to Portugal for their upcoming Champions League tie with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night.Barcelona also boast a 100 per cent record in their opening La Liga and Champions League games, sitting top of La Liga - seven points clear of rivals Real Madrid - and their European group. The Catalan Dragons will be looking to solidify their place at the top of group D with a win over their qualification rivals Sporting, who finished third in last season's Primiera Liga.

✅ Breaking News - Salah named among 34 players in running for African player of the year
✅ Breaking News - Salah named among 34 players in running for African player of the year #Mo, #Salah, #named, #34, #players, #running, #African, #player, #year Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been put on a list of 34 players in the running for the African player of the year award. The Egypt international won the accolade last year thanks in part to a stunning maiden campaign at Liverpool where he went on to score an incredible 44 goals. Other big-name nominees announced by the Confederation of African Football include Salah's Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane of Senegal. Also on the list are Alex Iwobi of Nigeria, Mehdi Benatia of Morocco, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon and Riyad Mahrez of Algeria. Madagascar striker Faneva Ima Andriatsima was also nominated and is a long-shot after his goals helped his country qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, its first major tournament. The list will be cut to three finalists and the winner will be announced on January 8 in Dakar, Senegal. Despite making a slower start to the 2018-19 campaign, Salah has been slowly getting back to his best under Jurgen Klopp this term. The forward has netted six goals in his last eight games and remains a key player in a side that has not lost a Premier League match all season. Despite their unbeaten start to the season, Liverpool still sit only second in the league table as they trail table toppers Manchester City by two points. The Reds next Premier League encounter sees them host Everton in a Merseyside derby at Anfield to wrap up the weekend's drama. ✅ Breaking News - Paul Pogba's agent holds 'two conversations' with Real Madrid
✅ Breaking News - Paul Pogba's agent holds 'two conversations' with Real Madrid #Paul, #Pogbas, #agent, #Mino, #Raiola, #holds, #two, #conversations, #Real, #Madrid, #bid, #broker, #transfer Mino Raiola has reportedly had 'two conversations' with Real Madrid in which he revealed the desire of his client Paul Pogba to leave Manchester United for Los Blancos. The football super-agent was thought to have an acrimonious relationship with the capital city club, which would have proved to be a major stumbling block to any potential transfer. But according to Spanish outlet Marca, Raiola has since put those differences behind him and has twice spoken to the Madrid hierarchy, voicing Pogba's desire to swap Old Trafford for the Santiago Bernabeu. Share this article Share Madrid have previously balked at the prospect of spending more than £100million on the World Cup winner, with other, cheaper options potentially available at the heart of midfield including Tanguy Ndombele of Lyon and Christian Eriksen at Tottenham. But returning boss Zinedine Zidane is expected to overhaul the Real Madrid squad this summer, with L'Equipe reporting that he has been given a €430m war-chest to return Madrid to Europe's top table after a disappointing season.Star names including Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe could be enticed to join Zidane, who has also made no secret of his desire to work with compatriot Pogba in the past. The French midfielder also openly flirted with the prospect of a move to Spain during the international break, telling reporters it would be a 'dream' to work with Zidane.Pogba said: 'Real Madrid is a dream for any kid or footballer and especially with Zidane.'The Frenchman has rediscovered his best form under new Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the club will be concerned about the lasting impact of his confidence-sapping relationship with former coach Jose Mourinho.Raiola's emollient approach to Real Madrid suggests Pogba still wants out, despite the club's transformation under the former United striker. During Pogba's courtship with Barcelona in 2015, when Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti publicly distanced Real from a move for the former Juventus player, the 51-year-old Italian agent was quoted by L'Equipe as saying: 'Madrid buy players the way some people buy bath towels and then throw aside. We are not interested in a club like that.' The 26-year-old is expected to return to Premier League action with Manchester United on Saturday when they take on Watford at Old Trafford.   Share this article Share Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6867521/Paul-Pogbas-agent-Mino-Raiola-holds-two-conversations-Real-Madrid-bid-broker-transfer.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490&ito=1490

Breaking News - Man United Class of 92 member Thornley opens up on his injury hell
Breaking News - Man United Class of 92 member Thornley opens up on his injury hell #Manchester, #United, #Class, #92, #member, #Ben, #Thornley, #opens, #injury, #hell Ben Thornley, the star of Manchester United's famous Class of 92 who was once branded the new George Best, has opened up on the cruel twist of fate that ended his chances of emulating the stellar careers of David Beckham and Paul Scholes. Bury-born Thornley, a winger, was regarded even above Beckham and Scholes as the stand-out player in United's academy side and tipped for a top class career at Old Trafford. That was until a horror challenge by Blackburn defender Nicky Marker in a reserve match in April 1994 inflicted such damage to Thornley's knee it wrecked the trajectory of his entire career. Alex Ferguson was considering selecting 18-year-old Thornley in the United squad for the FA Cup semi-final against Oldham Athletic a few days later. Though Thornley, after a year of recovery, was able to partially resurrect his career, playing 13 times for United, his ultimate destiny was to play in the Football League and non-league instead of the Premier League and Champions League. A new autobiography of Thornley's career called Tackled: The Class of 92 Star Who Never Got To Graduate details how United legend Nobby Stiles said of him: 'Ben is the closest I've seen to George Best in all my time at the club.' Sir Matt Busby, Best's manager at Old Trafford, was sitting nearby when Stiles made the statement and didn't argue otherwise. Speaking to The Guardian, Thornley reflects: 'Crazy, absolutely crazy. There are very few footballers that have ever lived that would measure up to George Best and so to be compared to him, at whatever level, by somebody who has been a World Cup winner - well, you can't ask for more than that.' The more renowned graduates of the Class of 92 certainly back up Stiles' bold assertion. In the book, David Beckham says: 'Ben would have outdone us all - that's the sad part.' Scholes says Thornley was 'a step above all of us, he could do everything.' Gary Nevile says he was 'one of the most outstanding talents I ever played with.' Thornley suffered a ruptured medical collateral ligament and medial capsule, ruptured cruciate ligaments and a detachment of the medial meniscus in Marker's awful tackle. Ferguson encouraged him to seek damages from Marker and Blackburn for loss of earnings and he secured a pay-out five years later. But five minutes before that moment, United coach Jim Ryan, with one eye on the possible Cup semi-final appearance, asked Thornley if he wanted to come off. 'It's probably the worst decision that I've ever made in my life and something that completely changed my life,' he told The Guardian. As Beckham, Scholes and the Neville brothers won the Treble and Premier League title after Premier League title, Thornley was playing in the Football League and also briefly north of the border with Aberdeen. Off the field, his life was unravelling as he hit the bottle and he hit rock bottom after nine months of benders following separation from his wife Claire in 2006. 'I took it to extremes in my second sea Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6265051/Manchester-United-Class-92-member-Ben-Thornley-opens-injury-hell.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ito=1490&ns_campaign=1490

Share this article Share And now staff at the University of Bolton stadium have been emailed and told that that a new regime could take over by the weekend, with a deal 'agreed in principle' and 'subject to contract'.Concerns had been raised that March's wages - due on Friday - would not be paid on time. On a number of occasions previously staff have seen their wages paid late, leading some to ask for short term advances to put fuel in their cars. The club's training ground was also closed for a day due to a lack of fuel and supplies. The news has been greeted with optimism by staff, who retain a level of scepticism. 'This is Bolton,' said one employee. 'Let's wait and see.' A proposed buyout by the Football Ventures (Whites) consortium collapsed a fortnight ago at an advanced stage. While a return to the High Court is looming on the horizon Ken Anderson, Bolton's controversial owner, said this week that he did not see the club needing to appoint an administrator.Thursday is the cut-off point for the 12-point penalty for going into administration to be deducted this season. ✅ Breaking News - Lionel Messi admits he wishes Cristiano Ronaldo was still in La Liga
✅ Breaking News - Lionel Messi admits he wishes Cristiano Ronaldo was still in La Liga #Lionel, #Messi, #admits, #wishes, #Cristiano, #Ronaldo, #La, #Liga They were bitter rivals for so many glorious years on the pitch in Spain and Lionel Messi has now admitted he wishes Cristiano Ronaldo was still in La Liga.Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus last summer in a staggering £100million deal and, in doing so, ended his nine-year tussle for supremacy in Spain with Barcelona's No 10.Messi and Ronaldo are considered two of the greatest players of all-time and the Argentine has now said he misses having Ronaldo to compete against in La Liga, insisting the former Manchester United star brought some 'prestige' to the division. Share this article Share 'I miss Cristiano,' Messi told FM Club 947 in Argentina. 'Although it was a bit difficult to see him win trophies, he gave La Liga prestige.'Juventus are a great candidate to win the Champions League since the arrival of Cristiano, and the match against Atleti must have given them a lot of confidence.'Real find themselves trailing Barcelona by 12 points at the summit of La Liga while they were knocked out of the Champions League in the last-16 stage as their failure to adequately replace Ronaldo in the summer continues to haunt them. The Barcelona captain also went on to name a list of players who he feels are at the top of their game at the moment.'I don't want to forget anyone, but I think that Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Eden] Hazard, Luis Suarez and [Sergio] Aguero are the best,' he added.'I didn't mention Cristiano because I put him aside from the list with me.'Messi also suggested he is not 100 per cent fit, just two weeks before facing Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. He was livid at the most recent criticism of him after he pulled out of Argentina's win over Morocco this week and travelled back to Barcelona.'Somebody says whatever they want to say about me and then people believe it and I'm painted as the son of a b****,' he said.'It has become the custom to say things about me. They invent things about me when I am not there. Nothing surprises me.'The truth is I came back to the Argentina team with a pubis injury that I have been carrying since December and I have been training less and not playing all games.'Pubis injuries are complicated; you cannot shake them off from one day to the next. I feel better but I have to take care of myself.'I wanted to play both games with Argentina but after the first game I had some pain and I decided to rest so as not to aggravate the injury. It is improving all the time but it is not completely cleared up.'  Share this article Share Source:https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6865745/Lionel-Messi-admits-wishes-Cristiano-Ronaldo-La-Liga.html?ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490&ito=1490

✅ Breaking News - 'Workaholic' Hamilton relishing the start of the Formula One season
✅ Breaking News - 'Workaholic' Hamilton relishing the start of the Formula One season #Workaholic, #Lewis, #Hamilton, #relishing, #start, #Formula, #One, #season Lewis Hamilton is relishing being back at work as Formula One's reigning world champion prepares to defend his crown. The Mercedes star is this year bidding to win his sixth title, and move to within only one of Michael Schumacher's record haul.Unlike in recent seasons, however, Hamilton has not arrived in Melbourne for the sport's traditional curtain raiser as the bookmakers' favourite to win the championship. Share this article Share Indeed, after an impressive eight days of winter testing in Barcelona, it is Hamilton's Ferrari rival, Sebastian Vettel, who will seemingly start the campaign as the driver to beat.Hamilton, who turned 34 at the beginning of the year, is gearing up for his 13th season in F1 and - following the retirement of Fernando Alonso - is now behind only Kimi Raikkonen in terms of grands prix appearances of the sport's current crop.Yet, the Englishman, who kept a low profile during the off-season, pointed to his extracurricular activities away from the race track, notably the recent launch of his second Tommy Hilfiger fashion range in Berlin, as a reason why he heads into the forthcoming campaign as motivated as ever.'I have just come off my break and while I got to do a lot of things that I wanted to do, I have missed working,' he said.'I am a workaholic. 'I love working with people and I feel as soon as I get back to work, I am living my purpose.'Yes, there are things around the job that I could happily not do because I just want to go racing.'I don't struggle with the motivation for that. But, if I didn't have the other things in my life, maybe that would be a different story.'I am fortunate, however, that I have these other projects. I love going to fashion shows, and being involved in the collection with Tommy Hilfiger. It is awesome.'Hamilton held the upper hand over Vettel last year and in 2017, winning back-to-back championships with two rounds to spare.Mercedes, meanwhile, are chasing a record sixth driver and constructors' championship double. But on the eve of this weekend's race, Hamilton's Mercedes boss Toto Wolff warned: 'Last year, we had to give it absolutely everything to come out on top, but from what we have learned so far, this year will be even tougher.'It will push us to our limits - and that's an exciting prospect for every single one of us. We're ready for the fight.'  Lewis Hamilton was speaking at the launch of the new range of PETRONAS Syntium with CoolTech at PETRONAS' state-of-the-art Global Research & Technology Centre in Turin, Italy. ✅ Breaking News - Ex-Watford striker Odion Ighalo reveals why he turned down BARCELONA
✅ Breaking News - Ex-Watford striker Odion Ighalo reveals why he turned down BARCELONA #Ex, #Watford, #striker, #Odion, #Ighalo, #reveals, #turned, #BARCELONA Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo has revealed that he snubbed interest from La Liga champions Barcelona earlier this year. The 29-year-old, who left Vicarage Road in 2017 after scoring 36 goals in 90 Premier League games, has been a big hit since moving to China.Ighalo finished the 2018 season as the CSL's second-top scorer with 21 goals and Barcelona were said to be keen to considering a loan move for him during the January transfer window. Share this article Share However Ighalo told BBC Sport that he had no intention of going to the Nou Camp to warm the Barca bench and that rejecting the Catalan giants was an 'easy decision'.Ighalo, who had previously spent five years in Spain with Granada, explained: 'My agent spoke to me about a loan interest from Barcelona. The club wanted a striker with La Liga experience and someone who understands Spanish football.'It was meant to be a six-month loan and strictly as a back-up striker. It was nice to hear that Barcelona were interested and any footballer would be more than happy to take it.'With due respect I had just finished as the second top scorer in China with 21 goals, I deserve better and didn't want to be a short-term player somewhere.'We rejected it, it was an easy decision to make and I chose to stay in China by joining Shanghai Shenhua on a longer contract.' Share this article Share Upon returning to Benfica, he was demoted to the club's B-team, but he has recently impressed in training and manager Bruno Lage rewarded him with a place in the squad for Saturday's Portuguese Liga clash with Tondela. It was Taarabt's first appearance in Benfica's match-day party since November 2015 when he was an unused sub in a 2-1 win over Galatasaray. Twenty-nine-year-old Taarabt made his debut against Tondela as a 71st-minute replacement for Pizzi when the score was 0-0.Taarabt touched the ball 16 times and was on the pitch when fellow sub Haris Seferovic netted the winner six minutes from full-time.The Morocco international has seen his attitude questioned in the past but Benfica boss Lage spoke positively about him earlier this week.  Lage said: 'He started the season at the B team. ✅ Breaking News - Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane reveal who is fastest in quickfire Q&A
✅ Breaking News - Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane reveal who is fastest in quickfire Q&A #Mohamed, #Salah, #Sadio, #Mane, #reveal, #fastest, #best, #hairstyle, #quickfire, #Q, #A Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have come to a mutual agreement on which player out the pair is the quickest at the club. The two forwards from Liverpool's deadly attacking trio went head to head to answer a series of questions on the club's official YouTube channel to see how well they knew each other. Both players are known for their speed and eye for goal but there were a few issues that the zany duo couldn't match up on. In a 'Mr and Mrs' style of game, Salah and Mane were asked a question which they then had to write theirs or the opponent's name on a whiteboard as the answer. The duo failed to agree on who had the best hairstyle with both going for their own. They were then presented with the scenario of swapping hairstyles, which Salah laughed: 'No, I'm okay - I'm happy about my hair.' However, when asked who was the quicker out of the two, Salah modestly held his hands up and surprisingly opted for Mane. As Mane went to write his own name, he insisted: 'Sorry Mo but I think I win that', to which Salah replied: 'I said Sadio!' Mane was also quizzed on what Salah thought his best goal was from last season with the Senegalese winger opting for his strike against Roma in the Champions League. Salah admitted: 'It's the first goal that jumps to mind when you ask me that question.' So it appears that the two are on the same page both on and off the pitch following Liverpool's perfect start to the season. Salah has bagged two goals in four games for the Reds while Mane has doubled the Egyptian's total so far this campaign. Liverpool will be hoping to extend their perfect start when they travel to Wembley to face Tottenham next Saturday. ✅ Breaking News - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrives at Carrington to take Man United training
✅ Breaking News - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrives at Carrington to take Man United training #Ole, #Gunnar, #Solskjaer, #arrives, #Carrington, #Manchester, #United, #training Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been pictured arriving at Carrington to take Manchester United training for the first time after being named caretaker boss on Wednesday. The club legend has stepped in to take over until the end of the season following Jose Mourinho's dismissal earlier this week and will now turn his attention to preparing for his side's game against Cardiff on Saturday. Solskjaer was spotted arriving at the club's training base in the early hours of Thursday morning. He turned up in the back seat of a black Mercedes people carrier and was quickly followed by first-team coach Michael Carrick. He will have just two days to start the implementation of his ideas and tactics on the United squad ahead of the game against his former employers in Wales on Saturday. United come into the game on the back of a humbling defeat at Liverpool on Sunday which proved to be the final straw for Mourinho. Solskjaer flew into England on Wednesday night to take charge of his former club and begin to heal the rifts and rancour of the Mourinho era. Solskjaer will restore stylish and attacking football to United during his interim tenure at Old Trafford, according to his managing director at Molde. Oystein Neerland, who worked closely with Solskjaer at the Norwegian club, said the manager champions 'entertaining football' and 'sees winning 4-2 as being better than 1-0.' Neerland, speaking to the Daily Mirror, said: 'For us, he is an offensive coach who plays entertaining football and sees winning 4-2 as being better than 1-0. 'He is a very positive guy. He is easy to like and has a clear vision of how to play football, but also works well with individual players. 'There is no doubt in my mind he will do well at Manchester United. He is a club legend there and that means he will get respect from players and fans. 'It's important he knows the history of the club and knows Manchester United's past and what makes them successful.' He arrived on a private jet from Norway and headed straight for The Lowry Hotel - where Mourinho stayed for the duration of his time at United - to meet executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward after being installed as caretaker boss until the end of the season. The 45-year-old Norwegian, who has been loaned to United until May by his club Molde FK, is also understood to have met with assistant coaches Carrick and Kieran McKenna at The Lowry. 'Manchester United is in my heart and it's brilliant to be coming back in this role,' said Solskjaer, who arrived on a Learjet 45 sent to collect him from Kristiansand after first picking up his agent Jim Solbakken in Stavanger. 'I'm really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club,' said the former striker. Solskjaer only signed a new three-year deal at Molde earlier this month worth £400,000-a-year, but the club knew they could not stand in his way of managing United where he had a hugely successful 11-year career.
