How Actors Fake Cry In Movies | Movies Insider

03:23
Have you ever wondered how actors cry in movies and on television? Some of the greatest scenes in history are largely thanks to the actor's ability to conjure real tears. However, sometimes they need help. That's where the makeup department comes in. Arielle Toelke, a Local 798 Makeup Artist who works in tv and film showed us four different methods that achieve four different crying results. #Cry #Movies #INSIDER The INSIDER team believes that life is an adventure! The Ending Of Jordan Peele’s New Movie ‘Us,’ Explained

10:25
There’s a lot to unpack in the ending of “Us” — the second horror film from writer-director Jordan Peele, following his 2017 box-office hit “Get Out.” Here’s everything important that you might’ve missed at the end of the film — and our analysis of what the Big Twist really means. Be warned: There are some serious spoilers ahead. “Us” puts a terrifying spin on the doppelgänger concept, and it’s full of social and political messaging in typical Peele-ian style. We break down the symbolism and hidden meanings, along with all the clever references Peele slipped into the film (what was with all those rabbits?). Plus, our explanation of how “Us” ties in to “Get Out.” The cast of “Us” includes “Black Panther” co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke alongside Elisabeth Moss (“Handmaid’s Tale”) and Tim Heidecker (“Tim and Eric”). Nyong’o and Duke play Adelaide and Gabe Wilson, a married couple with two children (played by Shahadii Wright Joseph and Evan Alex). On a beach vacation in Santa Cruz, the four Wilsons find themselves under siege by a family of scissors-wielding invaders — who happen to look exactly like them. The night descends into chaos from there. It’s all set to an unsettling soundtrack, which features a creepy reworking of Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It.” Other highlights include tracks from Janelle Monáe, The Beach Boys, and NWA. “Us” is out in theaters now. How Bugs Are Trained For TV And Movies | Movies Insider

04:47
Movies will often use live bugs on camera instead of CGI to make their story feel more real and to get your skin crawling. But getting these insects to do what you want requires lots an understanding of how they function. That's where Steven Kutcher comes in. He's an entomologist who has worked with insects on over 100 major projects including "Spider-Man, "Arachnophobia," and "Jurassic Park."  We spoke with Kutcher about how he gets these tiny actors to do what the directors want and how no one gets hurt during the production. Hidden Meanings Behind J. Cole's 'Middle Child' Video Explained

05:43
J. Cole released the much anticipated music video to his song, “Middle Child." We look at all the hidden meanings, Easter eggs, and references that even the biggest hip hop fans might have missed. In the video he seems to reference the fact that he's yet to win a Grammy and that he's awkwardly stuck between two hip hop generations. He also appears to tackle the topic of cultural appropriation of black people and artists. What might be most interesting is that the video might be referencing his past beef rapper L'il Pump. The video shows that while Cole is continuously overlooked in the music industry, the rapper is still a quiet but deadly hunter. In the video, he puts rappers' heads on a mantle, and shows a white woman literally shopping for a black woman's face. Here’s a breakdown of all things you may have missed in the rapper’s newest video. How Ballerinas Customize Their Pointe Shoes

Olivia Boisson is a corps de ballet member with New York City Ballet. Boisson has been with NYC Ballet for seven years. As a corps member, Boisson dances 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week. She showed us how she customizes her pointe shoes for performances. ------------------------------------------------------ INSIDER is great journalism about what passionate people actually want to know. Olivia Boisson: Hi, I'm Olivia Boisson. I'm a corps de ballet member with the New York City Ballet. Every dancer is trying to make their pointe shoe a part of them, so they wanna mold it to their foot as much as possible. So there's a lot involved to make that happen. It's really important, because we have them on from 10:00 a.m., to 11:00 p.m., so you wanna make sure that there's nothing bothering you. So you fix them and fix them until they're right. If I'm performing and rehearsing a lot, it could be up to three pairs a day. They aren't very strong when you're working with them all day. So, they typically do die pretty fast. Regular ballet flats are just, very soft. They're usually canvas, or leather. You can't go up en pointe with them. Pointe shoes are normally a bit harder so that you can get up on your toes. And men typically wear the ballet flats, and women normally wear them to warm up, but not always. Pointe shoes are around $80 to $90 a pair. At least that's how much they were when I was growing up. But the company gives all the pointe shoes for free, so we have as many as we need. Every dancer sews their pointe shoes differently. All to support your ankle in different ways. I put mine a little bit further forward, probably like an inch away from this seam. I'm just gonna smush the box. The box is where your toes go, and it's typically pretty tough, and pretty hard when you get a new shoe, and so you want it to be a little bit more malleable so that you can move your toes inside the box. So, I'm gonna smush them. I need to be able to move that part, so I'm gonna stick my heel in the middle, and pop it like that, so that, now I can bend this part of the shoe. This is called the shank. It's kind of like, your arch support. But you want it to bend, so that you can point your foot. So now they bend in here and they bend here, so it's a little easier for me to get my foot in there. Now I'm gonna bang them, because they're still pretty loud. And when you're dancing, it's very distracting. Alright. I usually will put a little Second Skin. They're like little gel squares. So, I usually put them at the tips of my big toes, 'cause that is where most of the pressure is when I'm en pointe, and then I tape them so that they stay on. And then I'm gonna put an elastic here, and then I'm gonna put my paper towels on. I just wanna get a good bend in my shoe, which is why I'm like, pushing them out like this. They feel pretty good. Alright, so now the bottom of the shoe is all, not as smooth, so it's harder to like, slip. So, this is rosin. You can like, smash it and it becomes powder and you kind of, just wipe your foot. Like, the edges that are slippery, and it's a lot less, slippery. Sometimes the very tip here will get very soft. So then I will use this hot glue to harden it back up again. That way you don't have to like, sew a whole new shoe. You can sort of make this last a little bit longer. Some dancers will put it on the outside. Sometimes they do that, to give it a little bit more support at the top, so that it's not so soft when you get up. With a new pair, it just really keeps you all the way up. With a dead pair, it'd get really soft in here. Everything would just be much more soft. So it's harder to dance hours and hours when the shoe isn't keeping you up. You have to do a lot more work.

Everything You Missed In The Trailer For 'It: Chapter Two'

04:14
The trailer for “It: Chapter Two” has finally arrived, giving us our first look at the follow-up to 2017’s “It.” We break down the hints, clues, references, and hidden meanings in the terrifying new trailer. 2017’s “It” was based on the Stephen King novel by the same name. But the first film only covered half of the classic book. The 2019 sequel picks up where we left off in the book, fast forward 27 years. It’s the mid-1980s now, and the Losers Club are reuniting as adults in Derry, Maine, to respond to the resurfacing of Pennywise. Based on what we see in the trailer, he’s even more deranged than we left him. The new film stars Jessica Chastain as a grown-up Beverly Marsh, James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stan Uris, and of course, Bill Skarsgård returning as Pennywise. “It: Chapter Two” is set for release September 6, 2019. WARNING: This video contains language about sexual assault. The new movie "Boy Erased" tells the true story of Garrard Conley — the son of a Baptist pastor who, after being outed to his parents at 19, was sent to a two-week long "gay conversion therapy" program. Conley talked about what the experience was really like, and discussed his efforts to make the practice of conversion therapy on minors illegal. It is currently legal to practice conversion therapy on minors in 36 states. Conley was joined by his mother Martha, who experienced a change of heart while Garrard was in the conversion therapy program and removed him before it was complete. Everything You Missed In The ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Trailer

05:24
Spoilers ahead for “Avengers: Endgame.” “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is the first movie to follow up the massive hit “Avengers: Endgame.” In the second trailer for “Far From Home” we see a world grappling with the death of Tony Stark’s Iron Man, and Peter Parker’s struggle with how to move on as Spider-Man without his mentor. Because this film follows “Endgame” there are a ton of Easter eggs, hidden meanings and exciting revelations about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The biggest one might be that the arrival of Mysterio/Mr. Beck (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) appears to introduce the concept of a multiverse, or multiple dimensions, to the MCU. But at the same time, everything Peter is seeing could be fake, as Mysterio is a master of illusions in the comic books. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury also makes a significant return to the MCU after “Captain Marvel.” He brings Spider-Man and Mysterio together, and helps explain all the problems that happened as a result of Infinity Stone snap. But which snap exactly is Nick referring to? We break down what the trailer could mean for the movie and for the future of the MCU. ------------------------------------------------------ #SpiderMan #Marvel #INSIDER INSIDER is great journalism about what passionate people actually want to know. Physicist Breaks Down The Science Of 10 Iconic Marvel Scenes

17:31
To celebrate the release of “Avengers: Endgame,” we had physicist (and lifelong comic book fan) Jim Kakalios take a closer look at the physics of the Marvel universe. Here he reacts to 10 memorable scenes from Marvel movies and rates them based on their accuracy. Find out what exactly quantum mechanics, time dilation, Einstein’s theory of special relativity, and spider silk tell us about the superheroes of the Marvel franchise. Which weapon would you rather have in a fight: Thor’s Mjolnir hammer or Captain America’s shield? Hint: The answer has to do with the conservation of energy — and the sonoluminescence of vibranium. Dr. Kakalios breaks down the physics behind this and many other Marvel phenomena, including Shuri’s holographic car in “Black Panther;” Peter Parker’s spider-webbing train save in “Spider-Man 2;” the multiverse theory of “Doctor Strange;” the role of Pym particles and the Higgs boson in “Ant-Man;” artificial gravity in “Guardians of the Galaxy;” and Tony Stark’s cybernetic helmet and gold-titanium exoskeleton in “Iron Man.” He sheds light on why Carol Danvers doesn’t age from “Captain Marvel” to “Avengers: Endgame;” why the Space Stone is so powerful when yielded by Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War;” and what’s with all the talk of quantum entanglement, quantum tunneling, and “quantum mumbo-jumbo” in “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” Kakalios is the author of three books — “The Physics of Superheroes,” “The Physics of Everyday Things,” and “The Amazing Story of Quantum Mechanics.” He was a science consultant for Sony’s 2012 film “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Before that, he won an Emmy for his work as a science consultant for the Warner Bros. superhero film “Watchmen.” A physics professor at the University of Minnesota, Kakalios teaches a popular class that uses comic books to illustrate the principles of physics.
