Inspired by the book ‘Way’s of Seeing’, John Berger Surveyor and Surveyed. ‘A women must continually watch herself. She is almost continuously accompanied by her own image of herself. Whilst she is walking across a room or whilst she is weeping at the death of her, she can scarcely avoid envisaging herself walking or weeping. From earliest childhood she has been taught and persuaded to survey herself continually. And so she comes to consider the Surveyor and Surveyed within her as the two constituent yet always distinct elements of her identity as a women.

My recent work is about our dependance on technology and how we spend a major part of daily routine fixated to our devices, here i’m telling myself to “stop watching” but i’m also telling everyone else who’s may see this to do so too. It also looks like i’m telling the computer to stop watching (stop watching me?) relating well to the idea of technophobia and cctv work i’ve doing
So just working with the clip where i sit back in the seat and repeating it, whilst changing each repeat a little. I’m really enjoying working with repetition, the fast pace and the harsh noises. It makes the piece uncomfortable and hard to watch and listen to, almost irritating, which is exactly what i’m trying to with my art work.
